| Der_Berserker05-13-07, 02:57 PM | Salve! My player characters are searching for an ancient ruin deep in Xen'drik. They will found some mysterious (not too powerful) artifacts (the origin is unkown) which seem paradoxically customized for them (call it destiny). Now i want to know if these artifacts are balanced (i don't want to disadvantage one of my PCs). Thank you very much for your help! Bizarre Idol (for the Rogue/Swashbuckler) Benefit: Once per day when you are spending an action point to modify a die roll, you can make a character level check. The result of this check determines what kind of die or dice to roll for your action point. Lower than DC 5: No dice (action point is wasted) DC 5: d6(s) DC 10: d8(s) DC 15: d10(s) DC 25: d10(s) and the action point is not wasted Blessed Relief (for the cleric) Benefit: Once per day you can spontaneously maximize, as the metamagic feat, a single cure light wounds, cure moderate wounds, or cure serious wounds spell. Wooden Carving (for the wizard) Benefit: Once per day you may take 2 points of Strength damage per spell level to retain a wizard spell you just cast. Copper Plate (for the fighter) Benefit: When rolling your action point dice to modify an attack roll, you also add the result of the action point roll to your damage for that attack. |

On another note that cost isn't actually all that bad of course depending on how long it lasts. You might want to consider basing it on the metamagic model like you did with the Blessed Relief. Or make it like the Bizarre Idol in that it's a level check to see what sort of spell level the wizard "gets back" that day. |
| Danekus05-28-07, 08:35 PM | I agree with garner_adam. They're all well balanced, except the wood carving. Wizards usually don't have much of a strength score so lowering it even more for one spell isn't that good of an idea. Change it to something that won't threaten the ability of the character, like spending an action point. Another option is to have no penaty at all and require a Use Magic Device, or Spellcraft check to use the ability. Finally, you could make it a certain uses per day, like 1/day the wizard could regain a lost spell. You could make this ability accumulative with the character's level. So at 6lvl the ability increases to 2/day, 12lvl it increases to 3/day. I'd stop increasing the ability there, though. Regaining anything more than 3 spells per day is somewhat "cheap" so to say. Anyway, there's just some ideas. Good job on the other artifacts though. |

Now the depend all on action points because 1) its more "eberron-like" and 2) the activation is for each pc equal.
