I have a drow Beguiler/rogue character who has recently come into contact with a manticore spike. And by come in contact I mean impaled. The thing nearly killed him, really should have but the DM was nice enough to actually not kill me for good, and allow for my character to make it through the ordeal.

Now, I have this thing that is cool for what it is, plus it nearly killed the character. So I came up with the idea of using it somehow to build a reputation for my beguiler.

The main idea is to have it spruced up a bit with jewels and some silver work, make it into a cane of some sort and give it some very minor spell enchantments. The idea is to have a story build around the thing that links it to my power. In fact it will be nothing more then a prop with pizazz, but the idea is to have my enemies focuss on the item and not the person holding it.

What I'm looking for are some ideas I can throw at the DM for enchantments for the thing. So far I have come up with a simple prestidigation enchantment that allows it to emit a bit of coloured smock or sparks.

Anyone out there got some cool ideas to help me with this?

Well, you can never go wrong with continual flame.

Prestidigitation is cool because you can almost do anything with it. Make it a lighter for your pipe, your spark idea, or something like it grabs the light to make it sparkle.

You could even go so far as to enchant it with hypnotic pattern, that way, much like Regis' gem in Icewind Dale, your opponents really have trouble focusing on you rather than the cane.

I like the hypnotic pattern idea!

One of the ideas of how to use this thing would be when angered or casting a spell, the gems on the thing would flare up and glow the same colour as my eyes. And given that my character is Drow, I have already established that the characters eyes glow a slightly blueish white colour.

But the Hypnotic pattern idea might be super cool.....

Maybe work out a way to make it look as though spells you cast issue from the item as if it were producing them. (Fooling people into thinking it's a magical item which produces your powers, requring a high spellcraft DC to realise it's not the case.)

Oh Bluebush, that is a good idea.....now if only the DM would give me an answer one way or the other....

It's an online game. :)

But so far I'm thinking it should start off with the presti enchantment, and maybe he will let me cast spells through it for coolness and trickster spawn likeliness.

Thanks ffor the help guys!

Hey, anyone else have any cool Beguiler character tools they have used?

If you have the Weapon of Legacy book, turn the cane into one. Make up the rituals to unlock it's potential, come up with ideas as what it provides the user. It would make a interesting WoL.

If the idea is to fake it being a powerful magical item cast Nystuls magical aura on it.

If you turn it into a Staff of Prestidigitation, you'll be all set. It could have the minor ability of using the 'P' spell a number of times per day or some such. The real benefit for your purposes is that by the rules, you'll be able to cast your spells through it just because of it being a staff.

consider actually making it something good make it a if you are a crafting character make it a staff and mount a wonderous item on the head then enchant the whole thing as a weapon.. i would also have you character fake a limp to add to his appearance of weakness it never hurts to be underestimated
