Powerful Build Warforged Feat [Archive] - Wizards Community

Powerful Build seems to fit with the theme of warforged, and since Wizards has so far not released a warforged race with the feature, I figured it could be added with a feat, rather than designing a new race. My question is if it's too powerful to be only a feat. The races that I am aware that have it (goliath, feral gargun, and half-giant) all have level adjustments, but they also have strength bonuses and other abilities. Any comments are appreciated.

PS. For those not aware of what Powerful Build is: Whenever subject to size modifier for an opposed check (grapple, bull rush, trip, etc.) are treated as one size larger if it's beneficial. Same for resisting improved grab and swallow whole. Can also wield weapons as if one size larger, but does not increase unarmed damage. Does not change space, reach, or other modifiers (AC, hide, etc.)

A while ago I designed a pair of Warforged PrC's that accomplished what you seek (The Warforged Collossus (10 level) and the- I think- inferior Indestructible (5 level)). They had other things going for them other than getting bigger (or at least benefiting as such), like a better Slam, higher DR, stuff like that.

If you want something like Powerful Build (which is a tad too much for a feat, I'd say), I'd make it the culmination of a short PrC. Warforged are notorious for having somewhat malleable forms (Reforged, anyone?), so rather than losing your composite plating or gaining immunity to critical hits, Forgey is getting somewhat bigger. They're big already, but this is BIG. It's like Bugbear big. Gnoll big. Bigger, even. Goliath big.

Anyhoo, here's what I suggest off the top of my head:
d12 hit die
1/2 BaB
High Fort, low Ref and Will
Fighter skill selection (Str-based, mainly)

1st level: Stability- +4 to oppose trip, bullrush, etc, as if you were 1 size bigger. Gain 2d12 pounds, 2d4 inches in height
2nd level: Powerful Slam- Slam as a larger creature, upping to 1d6 and upped to 2d6 with Battlefist. Specifically say the Battlefist increase, because it doesn't go hand-in-hand with getting bigger. Also, gain another 2d12 pounds, 2d4 inches.
3rd level: Powerful Build- Count as Large when beneficial. Benefits subsume those of Stability and Powerful Slam. Gain +2 Str, -2 Dex. Again, gain 2d12 pounds, 2d4 inches.

Man, I need to rewrite the Collossus sometime. I liked the idea behind it.

Looks good:ayyyy!:The only change I would make would be to increase the height from 2d4 inches to 2d8 inches, and the weight from 2d12 pounds to 2d20

Just take the Jotunbrud feat from Races of Faerun.

I dunno... With 2d4, the most height the Warforged will gain is 2 feet. With an average height of what, 6'6", that means Forgey can get to be 8'6" tall. That's about a foot taller than a Gnoll, which is already brushing the top of the height-max for Medium. With 2d8, Forgey can grow up to 48 inches, which is 4 feet. How is something 10'6" tall not large? OGRES are 9-10 feet tall.

As for the weight, though, I agree. Maybe 5d8 rather than 2d20 so it's impossible to gain less than 15 pounds overall (which is just a Thanksgiving Weekend away for half of North Americans, self included).

Just take the Jotunbrud feat from Races of Faerun.Note that Jotunbrud doesn't allow you to wield larger weapons.

As mentioned on my post for a similar thread (here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=12972527#post12972527)) , you could include a supplementary feat, requiring Jotenbrud (or the Eberron equivalent), which allows you to wield large weapons.

Note that Jotunbrud doesn't allow you to wield larger weapons. No, but thats what Weild Oversized Weapon/Monkey Grip is for. :)

No, but thats what Weild Oversized Weapon/Monkey Grip is for. :)Except Monkey Grip gives you penalties, whereas Powerful Build does not.

Don't get me wrong; what you've suggested is a decent way of approximating Powerful Build using the rules as they currently exist. It's just that it does provide a lesser benefit.

I wasn't aware of the Jotunbrud feat (thanks) that seems to fit mostly what I wanted. The prestige class would work too, though it might be worth making it a five level Prc and actually being large. Then could qualify for Warhulk(Miniatures)
Juggernaut/War Hulk= unstoppable killing machine

I also have a theoretical thing I've been working on as an idea of an advanced warforged project that my players will eventually find in their explorations of the mournlands. This is essentially a subrace of the warforged, the Mark II, these are somewhat more advanced and they have options like powerful build, temporary bursts of speed, and other advantages that would make them far more effective as soldiers, scouts, or whatever was deemed necessary.

IMO, the effects of the Powerful Build trait are no more powerful than those of the adamantite body feat. I would limit it in the same way tho, first level only. Its essentially the same as any other WF body feat.
