Has there been mention of powertools of any kind in Eberron? I was thinking of that today, and the idea of a power-drill or a chainsaw dosen't sound too far-fetched for high class artisans. They'd make for fun improvised weapons too. And a half related thought. Warforged components that work as tools...

Re-do the Armblade as a chainsaw? Now that would make combat interesting.

You can animate inanimate objects with magic.... enough said.

To be honest, probably not. A magical tool in Eberron would most likely be just an enchanted version of the mundane tool. A sledgehammer that breaks more rock, a hammer that decreases the chance of missing the nail and lets you use 2 swings instead of 3.

While a sword that increases your chance to hit by 5%, and the damage you do by roughly 15% is a major increase in a life-or-death fight, the 1000 or so gold that you would probably pay for a +1 hammer is far out of line with the benefit.

That said, you would probably find some. A gift from a noble to a workman for some great service, passed down the family, something a wealthy adventurer commissioned for an expedition to Xen'drik.

And with the Magewrights scattered around, there would certainly be a greater number of Masterwork tools laying around, as the greater supply brings down cost.

Exactly what I was thinking.

A +1 Hammer of Nailing? Genius!

Also, one doesn't need power tools when magic's around. Why would you need a jackhammer when a sufficiently controlled Transmute Rock to Mud and some shovels would do the trick? Woodshape for trees?

Becose crafting a magic improved tool would be much cheaper than casting a 4th level spell.

Just read chapter 5 in ECS. Note that low-level magic is flooding all Eberron, and most mundane tools should be imbued with it in quite aspects of work: building, crafting, agriculture, mining, hunting... just change technology in modern tools with magic.

That kind of magic was made for combat, not for mundanes duties. A blacksmith doesn´t need +1 hammer to forge better a sword. Just think about specific lesser enchantments for proffesional tasks that doesn´t need to appear in any spell list. A tough non-combat hammer that resists better heat or an automatic bellows shouldn´t be much more expensive than a everbright lantern.

FLOODING? No.

No and NO.

There are powertools in Eberron but it's not a matter of saying how would you replicate a jackhammer with a magic item. Eberron has never been the modern world but technology replaced with magic.

I could see animated tools being used. Not so much as a power drill as a normal spoon drill that operates by itself, or a hammer that swings itself, that sort of thing.

Almost Harry Potter-ish in a sense, really. Normal tools that are enchanted to preform their work independantly of the caster (like Mrs. Weasly's various cooking pots that stir themselves).

That could work too. (Why does a warforged need a loin-cloth?)

I think he's been talking to the Artificer that's in my group, there are some warforged components that are better off never being made really.

Remember the "Hookerbot" warforged with breasts in the Sharn art gallery? Maybe this one is her forge brother.
