I want to give an NPC a Sap but I'm not totally sure how this works. It says it acts like an unarmed strike and when the person falls under their hit points with non-lethal damage they fall unconscious. Problem is I can't seem to find the damage of an unarmed strike or a sap. Can anyone explain this and the page number?

The sap's stats are on the table with the other weapons. A normal sap does 1d6, a small sap (for Halflings/gnomes) does 1d4.

The only difference between a Sap and any other weapon is that they do subdual damage (just like an unarmed strike).

If you can't find them, how did you find out about saps in the first place?

Also, saps don't work like unarmed strikes, they work like saps.

Like everyone else does: Pondering if an actual real life weapon has been converted to game mechanics.

Well they mention it in the rogue description and I also founds it's description in the weapons. I guess I missed it on the table. The second edition tables were easier to read or I'm just used to them. I did eventually find the unarmed strike numbers buried in a paragraph in the combat section.

From the Holy Book of D&D: "Lo, be ye not in a hurry, ye shalt take 20 on Search checks."

From the Holy Book of D&D: "Lo, be ye not in a hurry, ye shalt take 20 on Search checks."From the D&D Apocraphia:
"And behold, those whom spend hours taking 20 on Search checks shall be fallen upon by the collected hordes, where they shall be overwhelmed without end."
