So ok here we go with another weird question from my party…we are currently in the Eberron Campaign “Whispers of the Vampire’s Blade” and we have acquired a Skiff from one of the House Lyrandar Airships and looking at the Eberron Campaign setting hand book It doesn’t have them listed so to my question. What does it take to fly one of these skiffs? And also what is the going price for one?

I'm not sure but I believe the information you are looking for may be in the Magic of Eberron book. I lent mine to a friend so I can't look it up for you, sorry.

Also, I wouldn't try to take sword away from the vampire...

My group 'commanded undead' and took it from him

Ya, I snatched it out of his hands, but I regretted it immediately.

There aren't any skiff rules, but here's what I'd say:

It costs around 3000gp and requires a good UMD check to run. As for flying it well, it's ideally a profession (pilot) check, but a dex check would work as well.

I'd up the price, to about 6000. A skiff would be made from soar wood which is incredibly expensive. Also could use gust of wind spell to help move.

I ruled DC 15 UMD check, or profession(sailor) i think is the alternative.
Success, you can move it (move action) failure, you can not.
Retry is possible, hence, anyone can move it given time (although failure of UMD might be a problem if its bad enough)

My PC's tried to disarm (got lucky) and then use psion powers to telekinesis the sword. I ruled that it was an intelligent item, hence was not unattended and therefore got a saving throw (which it luckily passed, allowing vampire to pick it up again)
He then bought a locked gauntlet before the next encounter with PC's!!!

How about if the skiffs have a rudder. A rudder with left, right, up and down. They move forward or backwards by sailing the wind the way that engineless aircraft does. Therefore, to figure out how to use them you would only need to make a DC 15 Disable device but to use them properly you would need better results.
