Has there ever been a picture of the Tangat? If so where?

How is a Tangat different from a Falchion physically. Mechanically I understand (2d4 vs. 1d10 and 8lb vs. 10lb) but description they seem similar, unless the Tangat isn't a sword at all.

Thanks,

A Tangat is pictured in the ECS on page 119. There's also a Halfling with one in Races of Eberron, but I forget the page.

Both weigh 8 lbs, and from the description, no, it is not clear what the difference is. From the pictures given though, the blade of the Tangat looks longer and thinner than that of the Falchion and the weapon lacks a gaurd/hilt.

Thanks for the p.119 reference. It made me open my book as notice I'd crossed Talenta Tangat out and written in Valenar Scimitar. Typically I only write errata in so I openned up the ECS errata and saw that indead the image on p.119 had been errata'd to be a Valenar Scimitar but the errata also points out you can see a Tangat on p.204 of the ECS.

Unfortunately I don't buy it. The Tangat is described on p.120 of the ECS as "...a curved blade (like a scimitar's) mounted on a short haft." The image on the halfling dino-rider on p.204 isn't holding a weapon with a short haft in my opinion.

Anyways, thanks for the help. Anyone else got any info.

Thanks,

I agree, it looks to me like the rider is holding a Voulge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voulge).

If you download and read the Errata (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/er/20040125a) for the Eberron Campaign Setting it states that the picture on page 119 is a labeling mistake.

The halflings on page 17 and 204 are holding Tangats.

Hmmm, that sounds off. There is no "Valenar Scimitar" in the ECSm and the Tangat appears again in the hands of a Halfling in Races of Eberron.

If the weapon on 119 is a Valenar Scimitar, does that mean that...

...is also holding a Valenar Scimitar?

I agree. I think the rider on pg 204, as well as the Halfling on pg 17 are actually wielding Sharrashes. They're described in the ECS as having sickle-like blades on long poles. In fact, the weapon is very similar to the Polish Warscythe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_scythe).

That would mean that nothing in the ECS is incorrectly labeled, but the Sharrash on pg 204 is incorrectly drawn, as the blade should be pointing out parallel to the end rather than horizontally. An understandable mistake since the weapon was compared to a scythe, and fewer individuals are familiar with the Warscythe than they are with the more common one.

Your opinion on the matter is irrelevant.

The weapon labeled “Talenta tangat” is actually a
Valenar scimitar. See page 204 for an illustration of a
halfling holding a Talenta tangat.

Although my opinion doesn't override published material, it's not irrelevant. I gave a mistaken answer, the official answer was given, and discussion then turned to opinions on the official errata. My comments were relevant in that context.

Wow, way to foster discussion!

Yeah really!

I started this thread because I have character in my campaign who's planning on using a falchion. Seeing as the two weapons were similar mechanically I was planning on giving him exotic weap prof tangat for free just so we could see that weapon in use. Then I figured he'd ask what the weapon looks like and found out I didn't know.

Anyways, if anyone has any furture info, please send it this way.

Thanks,

I don't know if anyone would be interested in further discussion on the sword. Given the fact that the issue as to what the Tangat sword looks like seems to have been covered.

I remembered seeing a sword that looked like the Tangat in one of my history classes. The sword I remembered was the Khopesh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sickle-sword) also called a sickle-sword.

Except that it's not a sword. It's a polearm. :P

The image on the halfling dino-rider on p.204 isn't holding a weapon with a short haft in my opinion.

What do you think he's holding, out of curiosity. It looks like a curved blade on a short haft to me...

For the other picture shown in this thread I assume the halfling is simply wielding a normal scimitar. The only reason I can think of that they decided in the errata to call the mis-drawn image in the ECS a "Valenar scimitar" is because some foolish art director messed up, and instead of saying that the picture is worthless, they decided to say that's what scimitars made in Valenar look like, even though there is no mechanical difference.

I just went and had another look at the illustration on p. 204 of the ECS and all that I can say is that it fits the bill for a short haft as far as I'm concerned.
Long-hafted brings images to my mind of longspears and other large polearms.
