A normal whip doesn't threaten the areas it can make an attack in. Does this mean the Tentacle Whip does not also? Would that mean, if it does threaten squares, I could get Combat Reflexes and get all the huge numbers of attacks of opportunities I'd might get from the fifteen foot reach? It never specifies in the Tentacle Whip's description and some help determining this would be appreciated.:)

The way most DM's I have played with have ruled it is that the whip can make an attack of opportunity using it's own attack bonus and damage. The whip itself would have to have combat reflexes to get multiple AOOs.

I have a question too: Can you cast spells with the hand on the arm to which the tentacle whip is attached?

I haven't read up on this at all, but wouldn't it be easier to treat the tentacle whip exactly like a mundane whip for these sorts of questions?

If you read the descirption a lot of things become clear.

First off, it can be used to attack adjacent enemies. It can be used to make AoOs. So if you have a tentacle whip and Combat Reflexes you could get a lot of AoO's by standing in the center of the battlefield.

As to whether you can cast spells using that hand, things are a bit trickier. You cannot hold a weapon or shield in the hand that is using the tentacle whip which would pretty much mean the hand is off limits to spell casting. However, you can make and unarmed strike. Also, it seems more like the whip is on your arm than your hand. You could interpret these two things to say that you could use the hand to cast a spell. I personally would go with the above rulling and say that if the hand cannot be used for weapons or shields, it cannot be used for spells. I would like to point out you could just choose to "drop" the whip as a free action, cast the spell as a standard action, and then "pick up" the whip as a move action.

Whether the whip can make its own AoOs is debatable. The whip can make its own attack if you are not activly using it. To my mind, that means that if you arn't using it as a weapon it is effectively an independant creature. In which case it could make its own AoOs. However, I don't think it would be completely unreasonable for a DM to say that it can't make its own AoOs for some reason.

Hope that clears it up.
