One of my players wants a greatsword as an arm blade. Essentially saying it would be like its in a locked gauntlet. I'm thinking its not possible. None of the weapon components to date have been a two handed weapon. The bastard sword (armblade) even says it requires the exotic weapon prof. (bastard sword) to be used properly.

Anyone seen anything to contradict my assumption. Other thoughts on the concept.

I don't think this is a big deal, and I'd allow it.
I think this actually makes things harder for him because is he's ever using his off hand for anything (carrying something/climbing) he can't attack at all.

Is he trying to wield this greatsword armblade one handed? If so that's not possible.

If not he must look pretty ridiculous gripping his wrist to wield it properly.

Since the armblade states that the warforge needs the exotic WP for using a bastard sword 1 handed to use that component correctly I would be comfortable saying that for a 2 handed version the WF would need to have the monkey grip feat to use it without penalty.

Two handed weapons can be carried, though not wielded, in one hand. As such, it doesn't seem to far fetched to have an arm blade that can only be effectively used by supporting the arm with the warforged's other hand.

Yeah - if he wants to wield it two-handed, sure. I'd make him take two feats to wield it one-handed, though.

I would say if he is gonna use it one handed it would have to be featherlighted. And that you would never be able to use it two handed effectively

Actually requiring Monkey Grip sounds like the best way to do it.

Honestly I gotta say it would be nearly impossible to move around with such a weapon stuck in your arm. Why? Well...A two handed-sword is simply wayyyyy too long and heavy to be wielded if it was stuck in your arm, the blade has an average lenght of about 4 feet... I hope you have something to counter balance that extra 4 feet on your arm and that you're 7 feet tall to wield such a thing easily... And hope you never have to get into a tight space...

Thanks for all the thoughts and please continue.

I sorta agree that it'd be to unwieldy to walk around every day, but also agree that it's probably not something overpowering.

Thinking if I decide to allow it, I might require him to detatch the component when not in a combat, dungeon, etc. situation. Only a standard action to put it back on.

That would really make more sense, cause having an arm 6 ft long is really an hindrance to movement hehe. And swinging this kind of sword in a 5ft large hallway is way trickier than a normal greatsword. Anyways, tell us what happens with it, I'm interested in knowing how this character's going to react and play it in character. :)

Well keep in mind the Armblade does pivot on the connector the rest of the Warforged. Looking at the picture on the ECS cover you can see it there and for the artwork inside another Eberron book (sorry I forget which one) they show it at a roughly 90 degree angle. So that may be something to take into account when making a greatsword into a bigger armblade.

Yep. The common sense part of me thinks that the OP's player has no concept of the simple notion of leverage.

Then again, I've played enough FF games featuring heroes with weapons many times larger & heavier than the wielder being swung around with little or no effort to seriously consider something as absurdly hilarious as this concept.

As much as I champion the role of realistic physics in game settings, I whole-heartedly agree that if anyone should be able of doing ludcrous things in the name of heroism, it should be the PC's.
