| LittleGreatMaker01-24-07, 11:14 PM | Warforged can have wand sheath install on a forearm. Why not in weapons? What type of restrictions would be good to maintain game balance? Perhaps, it would have it origin in the Cyran elite military units. :dragon: |
| Cabral01-24-07, 11:44 PM | Glove of Storing (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#gloveofStoring). |
| ArcTan01-25-07, 01:49 AM | Or an armblade. |
| Cabral01-25-07, 02:01 AM | Except that an armblade prevents the use of the hand (without expending a standard action to remove it) while the glove and the wand sheath do not. A warforged wearing a glove of storing could begin his turn retrieving a stored item (ie, weapon), act normally (ie, make a full attack), and re-store the item as part of his action. If you wand an any item equivelant of the wand sheath, I'd say use the glove of storing. :) |
| Kid SixXx01-25-07, 07:31 AM | Warforged can have wand sheath install on a forearm. Why not in weapons? Because the weapons you'd like to use are much bigger than a wand? You're probably referring to the retractable adamantium blades in the forearms of the WF Assassin, Indigo, from Keith's Dreaming Dark novels, or perhaps the WF with the build in leg sheaths for her short swords (Quick Draw feat?) from Keith's Dungeon magazine module, Steel Shadows. If that's so then yes, I sure do hope that mechanics catches up with the crazy things that WF can do in the novels one of these days. |

There is a publish wrist sheath that lets you hide daggers up your sleeves. The easiest answer is that Indigo simply has WF component wrist sheaths. Or, if you want to get fancy, WF component gloves of storing that only work for her daggers. The leg sheaths would just be good old fashioned normal sheaths made into components and placed on the legs for flavor.I sure do hope that mechanics catches up with the crazy things that WF can do in the novels one of these days. The mechanics are already there, you just have to change the flavor to suit the need. |

Flavor is fine and dandy & I have no problems converting, but it's always nice to see crunch in print every so often. Besides, my conversions always seem to end up dramatically different from "official" versions that catch up with my conversions. They've yet to recreate my Predator 2 inspired active camouflage docent, though |
| eRaz0r01-25-07, 11:47 AM | Are we sure that the OP wasn't talking about putting the wands INTO the weapons ? The way I read it, it sounded like he wanted a blaster-sword. Sort of like some of those old toons, where they point their honking-great-big sword at the enemy and a blast of light booms out and smashes things to bits. That'd be cool. |
| Cabral01-25-07, 03:26 PM | Ah. Rereading it, looks like you're right. Whoops. :D |
| Vharuck01-25-07, 07:36 PM | In that case, just have the weapon treated as both a weapon and wand. Its cost would be that of the weapon's cost plus 1.5 times the wand's cost (since just combining them is pretty useful, and the wand is the weirder ability). |
| LittleGreatMaker01-25-07, 08:51 PM | Yes, accentually a blast-sword is what I had in mind, eRaz0r. Following the model of the Warforged wand sheath component, a user would be able to insert a wand of any spell type that would drop out when fully discharged. But, there should be limits of weapon type and quality into with a wand sheath could be added, perhaps masterwork short sword would meet the base requirements. DMs could then through low spell level wands out as reasonable reward. :dragon: |
| LittleGreatMaker02-03-07, 06:52 PM | Weapon Wand Sheath Favored by the magical force of the Cyran military, the weapon wand sheath allows magical combatants to always be armed and ready to defend. The sheath also serves to conceals and thus providing a surprise attack. A Craft:Weaponsmith check is required to identify a weapon with a sheath. The weapon wand sheath may be incorporated into any melee weapon of reasonable length (short sword or long knife minimum). In the case of swords, maces, and hammers, the sheath would located in the hilt, and the midpoint of staffs, spear, and halberds. Wand is well protected and remain usable until the weapon is completely destroyed. The weapons must be master work quality. Any normal magic wand may be inserted into the sheath, and will remain fix in the until the wand is fully discharged. At which time the wand may be removed and replaced. The wand may be used normally per Use Magical Device skill once inserted. The bearer can direct the focus of the spell by pointing the weapon at the target. Faint transmutation: CL 3th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Craft Wand, polymorph; Price 2,500 gp :dragon: |
| Subtle Knife02-03-07, 07:05 PM | There is precedent in the Arms and Equipment guide - The Deathwand Crossbow permits one to keep 2 wands at the ready within the stock of the weapon. A personal favorite of mine! SK |
| Edymnion02-03-07, 09:59 PM | I see no reason why not to do it. Like Subtle Knife said, there's already a crossbow that does this, and there is the ring sword that lets you put a freaking magical ring on the handle and have it count as you wearing it (effectively giving you a third ring slot), so there's no reason why this wouldn't fly. I mean, it doesn't really even do that much. Changing hands is a free action, so you could move your sword to your off hand as a free action at the same time as you move the wand from your off hand to your main hand, fire it off, then next round switch back again. Honestly, if building a wand into a weapon is all you really want, I'd just say make it double masterwork (aka, add 300 gp to the price) and call it a day. You still have to have the weapon out, and it still takes a standard action to activate the wand. All you're really doing is avoiding some off-hand penalties that you likely could have gotten around without spending the money in the first place, so why not? Its not granting you the ability to use the wand, and you can still disarm the wand by disarming the weapon it's in. Honestly, the only thing you're giving them is the ability to threaten squares (which they could already do by holding a weapon in their off hand), and potentially giving them a bonus to resist disarming if the wand is built into a 2h weapon (at which point they could still threaten with something like a blade boot). Its not game breaking, its really not much of an issue at all. |

| LittleGreatMaker02-11-07, 11:27 AM | I guess I was not the only one with this thought. Dungeonscape gallery (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/dungeonscape_gallery/102753.jpg) :dragon: |
| Cabral02-11-07, 03:24 PM | Looks like it. :D |
| Romulus LoneWolf02-20-07, 09:19 PM | I'm thinking a Paladin with two Short Swords, each with a Wand Sheath, equipped with Magic missile... Two-Gunblade Paladin, anyone? ;) |
| UnderworldLord02-21-07, 09:52 PM | Make it a ranger with two longswords. Give him a cross over into a bit of artificer, and dual wand wielder feat or cannith wand adept, and you could have some fun with it. |
| mightyix02-22-07, 01:11 PM | I'm pretty sure that Dungeonscape had something you could do to a weapon tha allowed a wand to be readied if the weapon was wielded. I only flipped through the book and didn't buy it so I can't say for certain. |
| HuwJones03-01-07, 10:46 PM | In fact, the Dungeonscape one is a mundane weapon modification IIRC. Just a groove/hole cut into the handle. Obv I can't say more. |
| SinisterSamurai03-06-07, 12:47 PM | When I read the topic title, I thought the sword's sheath itself would act as a wand/rod. "With one hand she gripped the worn sheath, with the other the magnificent handle, and she drew. She held the gleaming longsword above her head in a Falcon's Roost stance. Her opponent, a veteran highwayman watched the blade intensly, waiting for the slightest motion to give away it's intention. He had to admire the blade, it was clean, sharp, and seemed to be made of silver. He knew he wouldn't just pawn it like some trinket after he pried it from her cold, dea-- The Brigands line of thinking stopped abruptly. His head burst into flame as a ray of intense heat lanced forth from the depths of the scabbard and connected with his chin. Aumakua sheathed the blade and reached for the brigand's coinpurse. Lame. Seven coppers. She spit at his head and walked off. It sizzled and boiled when it landed on his burning forehead." |

DC to create something like this for a Craft (weaponsmith)? and obviously then the price to buy/create the wand to use with it...duh. |
| UnderworldLord03-09-07, 07:11 PM | The crossbow you refer to is the Deathwand Crossbow, or some such, from Arms and Equipment. I can't access it right now, but I recall its working capacity as carrying two wands. |

Faint transmutation: CL 3th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Craft Wand, polymorph; Price 2,500 gp :dragon: well i just looked in Dungeonscape & unfortunately the item above is not necessary (i was going to use it in my game) as there is a armor and weapon modification that costs only $100gp, and it does the same thing but for far less & its not a magical enhancement, its called "wand chamber" it allows you to insert a single wand into a shield or weapon & it is considered ready and can be activated without having to drop the weapon or shield. changing it out takes a full round action & it does not say anything about having to leave a specific wand in until its discharged, nor does it say any size limitations, but i think some comon sense would apply, say short sword or bigger, but thats up to each DM i personally like the idea of a dual wielder, each weapon having a wand chamber (with whichever is your favorite party favor inside) & the sword ring option as well (our DM said to add that function to any applicable weapon, costs $2000, if i recall correctly), adds more ring options & a nice surprise as well now also add in laminated & serrated from mercenaries which increases the critical threat range by 1 & the critical multiplier goes up by 1 as well & +1 damage yeah its all pricey, all the effects are mundane, except for maybe the ring option, but then also add in magical enhancements to boot oh yeah baby, i personally like doing this to low threat range weapons usually (like the drow long knife or the elven thin blades or rapiers), but any would work nicely |
| Ehtiar03-15-07, 04:44 PM | Hm I like the thought of a specifically made weapon like that.. A longsword that can have wand's inserted into the hilt..and will allow the user to channel the wands emissions from the crosspiece.. Perfect for those duels when you dramatically lock blades.. your opponent smirks and makes some fast comment.... and you just mutter the command word that puts the Wand of Lighting into action :D |
