| MavrickWeirdo06-07-04, 11:32 PM | 10. Eberron has a flexible alignment system, so why can't my Paladin be Chaotic Neutral? 9. But it's part of my background that my artificer was a member of House Cannith who left Cyre shortly before it became "The Mournlands". Why won't you let me have a working "Forge of the Warforged." 8. Well, I think a T-Rex would make a good familiar for my L1 Halfling Sorcerer. 7. How about this idea? He's a L5 Inspired Soulknife, but he's really a good guy, and he uses his Shape-Blade class feature to make his "Soul Knife " into a pair of Scimitar's. No?!?! 6. What about a Half-Shaper/Half-Changling? C'mon? 5. It says in the book that "The Finders Guild" is a major source of "DragonShards". Well this Siberis Shard fell from the sky, and happend to land on top of a Eberron Shard, and drove them so far into the ground that they hit a Khyber Shard, and the three fused together. My character just happend to find it when he was younger and first got his Mark of Finding. Really, it could happen. 4. This character is origionally from Sigil and he was following the Modrons... I can't get there from here? 3. It's not fair that I can't have 2 "Dragon Marks", I have a great concept for a Creator/Destroyer Warforged... 2. What do you mean Warforged Can't Have Dragon Marks? 1. No, the book does not say "You'll find everything in Eberron you had in your previous game, except munchkins." |
| Bocklin06-08-04, 05:19 AM | Bocklin |
| N'wah06-08-04, 05:52 AM | Hey, the Inspired Soulknife's a great idea! I'll name him Brizzt Bro'Bruden, and he had to go underground, literally, to hide from the other Inspired, 'cuz he's so good. That's why they didn't find him, even though half of them are Telepaths and they all are interconnected via Dal Quor and stuff. He's also got an astral plane kitten named "Sammitch". Did I mention he's got bleached hair and a tan? :D |
| Charles Phipps08-10-05, 12:16 AM | Surveying the Archives of the original Eberron...I think this needs a bump. |
| Thievingrouge08-10-05, 12:21 AM | Some of those things aren't "power gamers" activity, but lying munchkins.... |
| Gillecu08-10-05, 12:29 AM | For some reason I now have the "Lollypop Guild" song from the Wizard of Oz stuck in my head... :D ;) :D |
| Charles Phipps08-10-05, 12:31 AM | 1. Draconimicron characters are unlikely to be allowed. 2. Warforged can't be programmed to be 20th level at the start. 3. Exalted characters are nonexistent. 4. You can't go kill any gods and take their power. 5. No Epic Spell Books you can steal. 6. Going to kill Dragons for the EXP will bring down the wrath of a continent. 7. What do you mean I can't just kill the king and take his place? 8. Elves can't be bladesingers?! What? How about High mages?! 9. No Nukes? Damn (my players always ask this) 10. The mark of death will never be defined? How am I supposed to get it? 11. The Mournlands cause won't be defined? How am I supposed to repeat it? |
| a_psh08-10-05, 12:44 AM | Those still seem more like munchy things. Well, except for the bit about bladesingers and exalted characters. Some random thoughts... #blank. For every high-offense kalashtar psychic warrior who can easily do 100 points of damage on a critical hit, there's an Inspired telepath with death urge just dying to use it on him. #blank. They errata-nerfed the Citadel Elite. #blank. You have to talk to people. All the time. Sometimes the DM won't let you use skill checks. |
| Gillecu08-10-05, 12:50 AM | #blank. You have to talk to people. All the time. Sometimes the DM won't let you use skill checks. <Gasp!> Are you actually suggesting people should roleplay? ;) :D |
| aelryinth08-10-05, 12:52 AM | Yes, there's an Exalted Character in the Sharn book...but not like any saint you've ever seen:) Heck, I don't think even the Keeper of the Silver Flame is exalted... And nobody said there weren't bladesingers. They just like to use Double Scimitars here. ==Aelryinth |
| Charles Phipps08-10-05, 12:56 AM | Well, in a shocking choice... I think we can mock munchkins here too! |
| Korhal_IV08-10-05, 01:08 AM | #blank. You have to talk to people. All the time. Sometimes the DM won't let you use skill checks. *shriek* |
| zambuka08-10-05, 01:13 AM | Some more munchkiny goodness. 1. Whadaya mean I can't just bolt another pair of arms onto my 'forged. I am just a robot right? 2. Well I think a real werewolf pretending to be a shifter is a great character concept. 3. Well I think my halfling paladin's special mount should be a T-Rex (inspired by familiar comment, so credit where credit is due). 4. Hey. The giants ruled the world for a long time, surely there must be some tribes still wielding their epic magics. Why can't I be one of them? 5. But wouldn't playing an undying elf be just so cool? 6. Why can't I start the game with own lightning rail engine/ airship? 7. Come oonnn.. They look like mechs, that must be what they're for.. I should be able to hollow out that titan and use it as a mech/powered armour. 8. OK.. you've let me be an hier to house Vol. Why can't I be a half dragon? That's what house vol was right? After all Vol herself is half dragon. 9. No really.. Erandis d'Vol could have had a child before being turned into a lich and I really do want to be that child. 10. The dragons should be a playable race. They are civilised in this setting afetr all. |
| Bocklin08-10-05, 03:47 AM | God! That's good archeology... Well done Charles! I started laughing again at the original posts, when I realised that I had actually already "laughed" about this more than a year ago... Time passes by, but I don't change. :embarrass Good job, Zambuka, yours are a great laugh too! Bocklin |
| a_psh08-10-05, 04:04 AM | <Gasp!> Are you actually suggesting people should roleplay? ;) :D Yes! And, to top it off, everyone around you is endlessly plotting and scheming and occasionally betraying you, which is why you never actually have the time to kill gods. Also, #blank. The gods don't have stats. You can't kill them and loot them. *sniff* :_( |
| Bocklin08-10-05, 04:53 AM | #blank. The gods don't have stats. You can't kill them and loot them. *sniff* :_( " And they don't even have portfolios you can wrest from them! Even worse: " they are not even the source of divine power!! [Munchkin thinks "deeply" for a couple of minutes] " Hey, wait a minute... " Then I can be a god: people can worship me and they get their " divine spells all the same. Cool! I think I am starting to like that Eberron " thing... |
| MarkB08-10-05, 05:38 AM | #thingy "Wow, that expedition to take on the goblin tribes was so worth it - not only did I get this neat spiked chain and loads of loot, the captain of the Sharn Watch wants to see me personally. I bet there was a reward on offer... wait, whaddaya mean 'extradition order'?" |
| Pax08-10-05, 02:16 PM | I owuld like to raise one small objection: I am, myself, a "powegamer" - the numbers and interaction of assorted feat/race/class/etc choices, are a source of endless delight for me, and I can draw no greater joy than carefully building an intricately-constructed character who maximises his abilities in their chosen niche. The behaviors you described do not fit in with my understanding of "powergamer" ... they fit what I would call a munchkin. And yes, the two are quite different things. And now, for a true powergamer's take on your Top 10 list. ^_^ 10. Eberron has a flexible alignment system, so why can't my Paladin be Chaotic Neutral? Well - CG is possible, if the GM approves of the use of the variant paladins presented in Unearthed Arcana (adding CG, CE, and LE to the range of alignments a Paladin may select). In that event, however, said GM would be well advised to forbid taking levels in Blackguard, as that would become a redundant PrC onc there are evil Paladin classes around. 9. But it's part of my background that my artificer was a member of House Cannith who left Cyre shortly before it became "The Mournlands". Why won't you let me have a working "Forge of the Warforged." Best answer, IMO? "Because it wouldn't fit in your pocket - it's the size of a small house. Next question?" ^_^ 8. Well, I think a T-Rex would make a good familiar for my L1 Halfling Sorcerer. ... and he can have it, too. With a few more levels of Sorceror, some levels of druid, and launching yourself on the path of the Arcane Heirophant. IOW, "come back in about fifteen levels, and we'll talk." ^_^ 7. How about this idea? He's a L5 Inspired Soulknife, but he's really a good guy, ... translation: he's a fifth level Kalashtar soulknife ... and he uses his Shape-Blade class feature to make his "Soul Knife " into a pair of Scimitar's. No?!?! Hmm. Well, I seem to recall there is a way for Soul Knives to get the dual-wield goodness on, but it'd take me an hourof poring through books to find it. And yes, I realise this is a poke at the "Drizz't Clone" thing. But I believe it's still doable from a mechanics stance. Wether or not it's sufficiently in bad taste to warrant an act of real-life murder ... I leave up to the GM "on the scene". ;D 6. What about a Half-Shaper/Half-Changling? C'mon? When they publish rules for half-mixed races of all types, sure. Until then ... you want me to make 'em, I charge $20US per hour. ;D 5. It says in the book that "The Finders Guild" is a major source of "DragonShards". Well this Siberis Shard fell from the sky, and happend to land on top of a Eberron Shard, ... shattering both of them. Next question? 4. This character is origionally from Sigil and he was following the Modrons... I can't get there from here? Nope. Next question? 3. It's not fair that I can't have 2 "Dragon Marks", I have a great concept for a Creator/Destroyer Warforged... ... and Warforged cannot even have one Dragonmark. Nice try, but ... next question? ;D 2. What do you mean Warforged Can't Have Dragon Marks? (LOL) Exactly that: not all races can have dragonmarks. Life isn't always fair, and the game models that rather well, surprisingly enough. Next question? 1. No, the book does not say "You'll find everything in Eberron you had in your previous game, except munchkins." ... but obviously, themunchkins ARE still here. ;D ;D ;D |
| Gillecu08-10-05, 02:34 PM | Somebody's taking this thread a little too seriously. ;) :D |
| Pax08-10-05, 02:52 PM | :) Sorry if I came across that way - it wasn't intentonal. Well, except for trying to draw a line between powergamers andmunchkins, anyway. Otherwise, I only meant my own post in good fun. :) |
| Cordus08-10-05, 04:22 PM | 7. Come oonnn.. They look like mechs, that must be what they're for.. I should be able to hollow out that titan and use it as a mech/powered armour. You know, a portable hole, a ladder, and your telepathic buddy using magic jar/mindswitch could really be cool. Image a Zilargo Gnome peaking out of a black spot on the top of the Titan as the it pulls up infront of the local tavern. "Dude, pimp my Titan!" |
| Charles Phipps08-10-05, 04:28 PM | You know, a portable hole, a ladder, and your telepathic buddy using magic jar/mindswitch could really be cool. | Edymnion08-10-05, 04:30 PM | Wait wait, listen to this, its a great idea! I'll go steal a bunch of conductor stones, line them up in a big row on a moveable platform, and then use them to launch boulders like a rail gun! |
| MarkB08-10-05, 04:45 PM | Wait wait, listen to this, its a great idea! I'll go steal a bunch of conductor stones, line them up in a big row on a moveable platform, and then use them to launch boulders like a rail gun! It seemed like a good idea at the time. :D |
| KP9108-10-05, 05:02 PM | Some more munchkiny goodness. 2. Well I think a real werewolf pretending to be a shifter is a great character concept. Well, I'm thinking of adding this into one of my games (not a player, just an enemy). Although, with 12 moons it is hard without lots of ranks in Control Shape. 3. Well I think my halfling paladin's special mount should be a T-Rex (inspired by familiar comment, so credit where credit is due). T-Rex's is in Xen'drik, unlike the maybe 5 species of dinosaur in the Talenta Plains? 4. Hey. The giants ruled the world for a long time, surely there must be some tribes still wielding their epic magics. Why can't I be one of them? I'm sure they just do, but they are afraid to show they have the power cause the dragons will come again. 5. But wouldn't playing an undying elf be just so cool? But they don't have a level adjustment, or a template, so too bad. And it would be so cool. First chance I got I would play them (I don't think choosing the coolest elf is powergaming or munchkining). 6. Why can't I start the game with own lightning rail engine/ airship? Because Lyrandar only gives them to high level captains. 8. OK.. you've let me be an hier to house Vol. Why can't I be a half dragon? That's what house vol was right? After all Vol herself is half dragon. 9. No really.. Erandis d'Vol could have had a child before being turned into a lich and I really do want to be that child. If Vol had a kid it would be quarter dragon and they don't have stats for that template. And you'd be really old, not to mention that the dragons killed you too. And Vol only lived because her mom made her a lich. Vol is also the only half-dragon because then they realized they're mistake. 10. The dragons should be a playable race. They are civilised in this setting afetr all. But they are too jealous that they don't have dragonmarks to leave their islands. |
| MavrickWeirdo08-10-05, 07:03 PM | Ready for this one Nowhere in the ECS does it say you can't have a Magebred Valenar Warhorse. (Actual player request) |
| Beleriphon08-10-05, 07:28 PM | Ready for this one Nowhere in the ECS does it say you can't have a Magebred Valenar Warhorse. (Actual player request) This is actually a pretty good idea. House Vadalis really wants to get their hands on some Valenar Warhorses to tinker with, and I expect the Valenar aren't really down with that. BUT, it does make a good plot device. |
| emeraldstreak08-10-05, 07:52 PM | I must say I love the fused crystals idea :D |
| anarco_rata08-10-05, 08:12 PM | I think somebody should change the name of the post ^^ is not "10 things powergamers will hate about eberron" it is " a lot of stuff munchkin will try to do when paying eberron" #blank can i be a half giant? (actual quote...if it doesn't seem too much, think about the implications of such character oO) |
| MavrickWeirdo08-10-05, 09:04 PM | This is actually a pretty good idea. House Vadalis really wants to get their hands on some Valenar Warhorses to tinker with, and I expect the Valenar aren't really down with that. BUT, it does make a good plot device. As a plot device, that player(s) work on in game, fine. He wanted it for the new character he was creating. |
| drunkenewok08-11-05, 02:27 PM | #blank can i be a half giant? (actual quote...if it doesn't seem too much, think about the implications of such character oO) Actually, I had planned to allow half-giants (originally presented in the XPH: SRD Link (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/psionicRaces.htm#halfGiants)) from Xen'drik. (Un)Fortunately, none of my players was interested. Would have required some interesting back-story, but nothing that a few kalashtar explorers encountering a semi-civilized tribe of hill giants in Xen'drik wouldn't solve. As for the Good Inspired dual-scimitar-mind blade wielding soulknife, it is possible, assuming your DM allows the custom Exotic Mind Blade Shape (presented with BlaineTog's Soulknife Fix (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=310984&highlight=Soulknife+Fix)). Wouldn't happen at L1, but L6+ you could probably manage the mechanics of it. The whole "good Inspired" bit would be harder to accomplish, though. My own contribution to the thread: one of my players wanted to play an elven-looking female warforged. Near enough to a regular elf as to be nearly indistinguisable. Great story background + really excited player + awesome plot hooks = interesting campaign. (And for the nay-sayers, she really isn't any more "powerful" than a "regular" character) Personally, as a DM, I don't like to answer player requests with: "No, because I said so!" I'd much rather say "No, but if you do X, Y, and Z, we'll talk" Using Pax's definitions, I'd think that Munchkins would hate it, while Powergamers would love it. |
