smalltown_hero 07-22-05, 02:52 PM	I am starting a new Eberron campaign in like three weeks and had some ideas I was mulling over for a beginning adventure, I want it to be a very noir related murder mystery for the first few sessions, so I decided I will post a few of my ideas (seeing as my PCs don't check these boards... or do they?) and see what the collaborative minds on the boards here have to offer: 1. People have been exploding all over the city of Sharn, turning into undead abominations made of their own intestines (Skulking Cysts). Who is at fault? A lone necromancer? The Emerald Claw? Some new threat on the rise? 2. A gifted painter from Cyre survived the Mourning, only to find that now he only paints pictures of the future, of murdered people. He didn't realize his painting were reality until he read the Sharn Inquistive last week and saw the name of one of his "subjects"? Is he the cause of the gruesome deaths? Is he somehow connected to another person? Moreso, what happens when a powerful member of the City Council is in his newest painting, or one of the PCs? Hope this sparks some interest! Radkres 07-22-05, 10:34 PM	3) A rich merchant is found dead in his bath tub. The strange thing is his skin is blue were the water touched him. And none of his other bathing companions are sick or blue.
Crimsonsun 07-23-05, 04:12 AM	*snicker* the title of your thread made me think of this... 4) A butcher's shop was found to have multiple bodies hung on its meat hooks when he opened in the morning. Each body had all its major organs removed, and shared no race, and all had blond hair....
taski 07-24-05, 12:54 AM	5) A fisherman finds a piece of dented scrap metal among his catch. He figures he may as well sell it along with his fish. The PCs notice that the piece of metal is not at all ordinary -- it's from a warforged.
DoveArrow 07-24-05, 01:27 AM	Recently, an elemental galleon from the House Lyrandar was found mysteriously docked at the Dagger River ports, with all hands aboard found dead. Though there was no apparent sign of a struggle, a strange mark has been etched into the forehead of all who were on board. So far, the House Lyrandar has been at a loss to explain the phenomenon, as has the local city watch. However, terror is beginning to rise, as this is the third ship in just under two months to have undergone the same event. :gah:

A famous barde from Karrnath, a famous hero, (officer from Thrane), of the last war and a famous wizard from Aundair are all scheduled to arrive in Sharn on the same day. All for different reasons and none of them have anythinf with the other to do. But all are dead at arrival, and all have a black scarf tied around the wrist when found. Did these people share a secret? Officially they have never met, and never even seen each other, but then why the murder?
Horatio 07-25-05, 07:54 AM	As many things in Sharn, this one also starts with a dead body. The local watch investigator began the investigation and was found dead the next evening. The case was transfered to another detective and an officer from internal affairs began to solve the investigators murder, only to be found dead the next evening. This is the 7th day after the first corpse was found, and there is an investigation for 5 murders runnig, but whoever investigates the LAST murder, he is found dead next evening. Now would the players be brave enough to investigate the last death or they rather pursue the relative safe route of resolving the previous murdes?

Another man comes over to speak with him, and finds that he has been dead for over an hour, his body slumped in the chair. The doorman nearby said he saw no one approach Lord ir'Loughin. How, then, did he get a gaping dagger wound in his stomach? 10. A man is found with a blade through his heart, and the culprit's hand is still on the handle. The only problem is that the murderer is dead as well, hit with a blunt object on the back of the head. And the stabbed man is holding a mace. How did he manage to hit the man who stabbed him before he died—and on the back of the head?

Here's one I've been working on: 11. Terror has been spreading among the nobles in Aundair as the corpses of their relatives that died in the Last War have been returning home as bloodthirsty zombies. Oddly enough, each of them has a green peace ribbon tied around their arms. Has some strange desire for revenge brought them back by their own will, or is some sinister necromancer trying to make a statement?
DoveArrow 07-27-05, 07:50 PM	A madman in the city asylum has successfully predicted the murder of five people within the city of Sharn. So far, his predictions have come in the form of riddles, but have so far been uncannily accurate. Sages have been unable to determine if the man's predictions are based on a magical foreknowledge, or if he is somehow in communication with the murderer on the outside. What is known is that the man has predicted that a murder is about to take place and the local watch is scrambling to understand his prediction. Edit: 2. Now it sounds like I was shamelessly copying Small Town Hero when really what I was doing was shamelessly stealing the plot from an X-Files episode.

Changelings are being murdered in gruesome enough ways that when one turns up flayed alive, the PCs have heard about similiar incidents. In truth, there is a warforged skinning them so that he can have an artificer make them into a special device that will make her into a human woman. (Perhaps she can assume form already of a human female and takes an interest in a party member)

The bodies are found missing their faces, hands, feet, tounges, and... *ahem* Is this a single over-zealous "hero", a cult, random violence, racism, or something else?
James Silverleaf 07-31-05, 08:24 AM	a dear frind of one of the PCs is found dead in his home, the day before his wedding with Lady Mira ir'longcrest, a noble from Karnnatt. Is this a sinister murder from a jealuos admirer, or is this a part of a strange ritual from The blood of Vol, after all, his body was covered in more blood than there is in 3 men.
Earthbinder 07-31-05, 07:49 PM	15. twelve warforged are found neatly dismembered and stored in the same pattern, each has a different dragonmark painted upon their brestplate, all are similar to the twelve houses but not quite, no magical means can comunicate with their souls other than to hear the words "one mark left, no light to shine. one day remains, until the crime." 16. in a stunt to impress a wealthy Merchants Daughter an noble from an old but fiscally poor House jumps from skyway, to land in front of her (500+ ft drop) and present her with a bouquet of flowers, all his friends were in on the deed. unfortunately when he jumps nothing slows his fall and he only ends up redecorating the lower wards. 17. as Falgar d'Kundarak was returning home last night 4 seperate bridges above him colapsed, none of which actually damaged him, then he was assaulted by a flock of wild stirges badly hurting him but not killing him. he has now in fear of his life asked the party for help by sending a house sivis message to them. but by the time the party arrive they find his bloodless battered corpse the only thing in his Small spartan apartment. 18. A man is found dead in a room arcane locked from inside, the watch write it off as suicide, no magic is detectable by any means. but how did a man with Hurgdons regressive Brittalia (a semi-magical disease preventing use if the fingers similar to Arthritis) managed to drop such a heavy bar and arcane lock the door as well as load and fire a Heavy crossbow to the side of his head? his widow and War Veteran comrade ask the party for help. All of these are cases taken from the note book of the Gnome investigative Alain D'Sivis under the psuedonym Jonthon Creak

The killings are seemingly random, but then a new merchant shows up in town, selling various exotic pelts, and leather armor...
dracogen 08-01-05, 01:49 AM	19. The great Sharn inquisitive Jona Bailat has been found murdered. He was known to have made many enemies during his career. But why has nobody robbed his stash of untraceable gems and slush funds? Maybe it has soemthing to do with the red sash tied around his neck... 20. A wealthy Zil merchant who came to Sharn early in his life has been murdered. Suspects include his second wife, his children and grandchildren, the private tutor hired for his grandchildren. But the merchant took care of his offspring financially and so money is not the motive. Who did it? and Why?
Raziel_Brokodar 08-01-05, 02:26 PM	:P 21) You discover a body with a hole in it's chest, and upon inspection you notice that it's heart is missing... This is the cause of death... What creature could punch or cut through a person's chest and tear out their heart?... and why is it loose in Sharn? 22) You encounter various murder victims, each seem to killed in the same fashion, the murder seems to have killed all of them by punching them up through their lower jaw with possibly a blade gauntlet. Gruesome! (create a crazed assassin who uses two blade gauntlets... nasty villian perhaps, besides the fact that they'd have AC check to Move Silently, a Warforged with Blade Gauntlet components would be nasty... give him Rogue levels to attain the silent part, and Fighter levels to be proficent with and be an expert with the two blade gauntlets...) :D 23) Nobles, or house nobles, possibly of the house that employs the PCs have been murdered, there seems to be no sign of break in in each of the cases, and all the victims have had their heads torn off... The PC's discover this to be the work of a crazed Ethereal Marauder who is hunting nobles. 24) A Changeling serial killer has been murdering many people in the run of a week, on each body he leaves a signature dagger with a ruby on it's pommel. How can the PC's catch this master of killing and disguise?

When the body is examined they find that the man is actually a strange creature composed of gears, wires, and metal? Is this some strange plot from the Lord of Blades to inflitrate Brelish polotics or a sinister experiment in the nature of living constructs? Is the councilman still alive? Was he ever? 26. During the last war, beautiful women would be visited by theirs husbands who had been on the front line. The next morning their husband would be gone and they would find his death notice arriving that afternoon. A few of these unions have produced children who seem... odd. Is this a tale of ghostly love? A changeling getting cheap thrills? Or something far more sinister? 27. A Kalashtar walks into an Opera House and begins to unleash a mental onslaught onto the unsuspecting crowd. He is subdued, but upon investigation it is revealed that he has been dead for at least a week. After all no one could survive having their brain removed. Is this an Illithid Plot or a Dreaming Dark experiment? And why did the Kalashtar choose this night to attack? Did it have anything to do with the first Warforged Performed Opera?
Radkres 08-03-05, 09:43 PM	28. The victim with a minor mark of making is found in his bed with a small tree growing out of his chest a strange looking seed is found near the body. Searching the victims clothing you find a pamphlet from a Greensingers play. 29. The victim is found in her garden sitting on a stone bench leaning against a darkwood tree the victim is missing her head. The wound is seared and not a drop of blood was spilled a small piece of Riedran crysteel is found in the wound. She is holding a small ceramic tea cup with a the symbol of University of Wynarn. 30. The victim a minor lord of an outlining province near Whisper Rock is found dead in his carriage his withered body is drained of all fluids. The only mark on his body is what looks like a kiss burned into his neck.
