1001 Rumours in Eberron [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-25-07, 05:45 PM One of the great things about Eberron is that there's so much going on in the world, after the end of the Last War. You can read a random paragraph in the ECS and get about 5 adventure ideas. (I've done it, it's true.) And as things happen in the world, rumours spread across the Five Nations.

I'm starting up a campaign in Sharn, and I thought it would be awesome if the PCs can hear random rumours about the goings-on of the world if they want to spend some time in a tavern. So, post your quotes of rumours of things in the world here!

Note: Not meant to be humourous or wild, I'm actually looking to use this list to give the PCs hints of what's going on *out there*, without, of course, giving anything secret away. Hopefully this can be a useful resource for other DMs as well! They can be both true and false rumours, though all should have at least some inkling of truth. Also mention if it's true or not.

I'll start off with a few:

1. "I hear Queen Aurala of Aundair is still itching for war." (true)
2. "I bet Prince Oargev of New Cyre is planning on claiming Breland's land for himself. That's what we get for being generous." (true)
3. "Those Zil gnomes may have helped us through the war, but I've heard they're secretly planning to take over the parliament." (false)
4. "Those damned Karrns are still raising corpses for their armies, I hear. The whole peace initiative was a lie!" (true and false)
5. "It was House Cannith, I swear it on my mother's grave. They're responsible for the Mourning! Who else could have done it?" (could be true :P )
6. "I hear there's a fanatical warforged in the Mournland trying to take over the Five Nations. That's what we get for giving them freedom..." (true)

I'll add more later as I think of them, but I want to see what others can come up with!

08-25-07, 06:36 PM "I heard there is an secret organization of assasins that kills anyone spreading information about the Mournlands and there calling card is a dagger with an illusionary blade of mist. I also heard there base is somewhere with the Mour!...." (true) :D

"Why would she do that?"
"Beats me...I figure, if nothing else, she and Queen Diani are planning to..err...reorganize Thrane, if you catch my drift."

10. "I heard a rumor about some weird Warforged that's been living in the Mournlands since the War ended..."
"Mean that Blades guy?"
"No No...Someone else. They say he's got an etching in his shoulder that looks like a Dragonmark!"

11. "Did you hear about Merriana?"
"What about her?"
"I heard while she was on her last treasure hunt, something happened. She got back to Sharn, fell Ill then vanished. Rumor has it that a weird Half-dragon looking thing has been running around claiming to be her."

13. "Those monsters in Droaam think they've organized themselves into some kind of nation. Like they could ever manage that, the savages..." (true)
14. "You know, none of Boranel's children have nearly the leadership of our beloved king. I wonder what will happen when his reign ends?" (true)
15. "Phiarlan was based in Cyre before the Mourning, but I hear all the heads of house were away on that fateful day. Coincidence?" (the first part's true)
16. "Kaius doesn't really have any control over his country. The people want war, and he can't stop them." (pretty true)
17. "I hear the Reachers have brought up a great monster from the depths of Lake Galifar--if war begins anew, our navy might have some problems on that front." (false)
18. "Kaius may have formally discredited the Order of the Emerald Claw, but I know secretly they still work for him." (false)
