I'm convinced the Zilargo gnomes would have kept steam-powered repeating ballistae for national defence if they invented them, but several other posters think they'd be selling them to other nations. I'm pretty sure the point I made in the fifth paragraph of my third reply back on page six settles the whole thing, but some people don't agree.
