Poisoning is just as good as damage. I'm trying to aim for them feeling like the jungle is slowly sapping their strength and eating them alive piece by piece. Poison, exhaustion, starvation (which leads to MORE poison when they try and eat strange things). Encounters that require skill checks (like quicksand), are good. Especially since we already mentioned they will probally have stat damage from several poisonings. 1) 4 tiny centipedes, 2 small centipedes. Great to have pop out when a character moves a heavy stone and fill them full of that lovely poison. 2) 1 Mind Shreadder Larva. Happy little abomination that eats wisdom and is right at home creeping around Cyclopsian ruins. 3) 1 Archer Tree: The crunch for this one is 6 kobolds hiding in a tree 10 feet off the ground shooting crossbows. Adjust for it to make sense. The description for this one is a nasty tree with 6 pulsating pods that pnumatically fire barbs. Makes the melee characters appreciate the value of a reach weapon. 4) 1 Prism Bloom Flower: The crunch: Human Sorcerer 1: spells 0th - Dancing Lights, Flare, Daze, Resistance. 1st - Color Spray, Obscuring Mist. Feats: Blind Fighting, Armor Spikes. Gear: Longspear, Armor spikes, 10 flasks of Alchemists acid (as fire, but acid), caltrops (lots). Adjust for it to make sense. The description: This semi-mobile plant uses dancing lights and then hides inorder to get things to come over and investigate. Then it attempts to use color spray to stun them, and then uses obscuring mists to hide and spit pods of alchemists acid (same rules as fire, but acid damage) and catch people with the splash, or use blind-fighting and its huge thorns (armor spikes/Longspear). The area is also littered with roots with big thorns (caltrops). 5) A Rickety Swaying Old Bridge Over A Chasm. Takes 3 rounds to cross. Each round requires a Dex/Balance check of DC 10 or you fall off. Anyone who falls can make a DC 12 Dex/Climb check to grab onto a section of railing. Then make a DC 10 climb check next round to get back onto the bridge (don't forget to make them take their dex/balance check that round too). If someone falls down, they can land in a river down below. Immediate problem for the guy who fell: How good is your swim check. Immediate problem for the group: Oh #$!@, what do we do? 6) 6 Monkeys. Monkeys are cute... Except when they are flesh eating monkeys! |
