The rules: You are welcome to describe where or how the particular verse may be found in the world (reading the stars, a dragonmark appearing in a lava flow, in the convergence of several different dragonmarked individuals, etc.) but please include the "translation" of what those signs actually mean (plain English verse). Feel free to include how you would interpret the verse as well, if you like. Using Keith's example from his Draconic Prophecy Dragonshard (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebds/20041227a): The scrying pool was a mirror of the sky, and the glittering Ring of Siberys stretched across its surface. Tielanthraxa whispered and the image grew, moving closer and closer until she could see the individual stones that made up a particular section of the ring. The shards were silhouetted against the lunar sphere of Rhaan, and the image was unmistakable: Khyber's Claw, surrounded by the light of the crimson moon: The Lord of Fire would rise again in the City of Illusions, and only three could return him to his prison: the child of storms, the shaper of steel, and the hand of the Keeper. Here are a few I have already used in my game... 1. Only an alliance of half-dragon and half-vampire can uncover the secrets of those who shared their common race and dwelt in Shadow. This discovery will unleash great evil and Death will rise again, yet the secret of the Silver Flame will be revealed in the Ring of the Children of Siberys, where Flame may bind Fire forever. 2. As you emerge from the Path of Marble and Ice into the Ring of Storms, the vines and branches of the jungle twist and sway in the sudden breeze, forming for the briefest instant into a strange dragonmark. In the same instant the sun disappears behind a dark cloud and casts an intricate shadow over your party. After careful consideration of all the signs, you translate them as follows: Only the Dead survived the fall of the Heart of the Dragon Above. The Heir of Death will come to the Heart to release the Dead, yet will undo the labor of dragons and elves. 3. Stalactite formations in the Vatic Caverns of the Frostfell form the Prophecy of the Ages: The Age of Demons will begin when Khyber expulses his children The Age of Demons will end when the Silver Flame first burns The Age of Giants will begin when the Titans arise from the ashes The Age of Giants will end when Dreams devour the Dreamers The Age of Monsters will begin when the Sleepers realize their dream The Age of Monsters will end when the Northern Empire is scattered The Age of Men will begin when the Great Druid is awakened The Age of Men will end when the Kingdom of Man is sundered forever The Age of Blades will begin when the Kingdom of Man’s Creation has come Let's see some more! Shadow hearts find the one with silver blood; she will lead to the claws of Eberron’s hands following the white rain till the shadow of thunder is exposed. In the hands of stone you find she that sleeps in the winter of time. The age of White she will wake at the scream of those who never sleep into the marred night does she creep. |
| yrogerg09-10-05, 10:48 PM | An approrpiate one for my last campaign's character's (half-retroactive) backstory (I hope it's okay): 6: In the Q'barran jungle, the roots of a tree and a hanging vine twist around a particularly large dragonshard by a lake, in a manner that looks vaguely similar to a dragonmark, but none that anyone would recognize. At last light, the sunlight refracted through this shard seem to show fire in the water, over the ring of Syberis. When dreams walk the earth, will you find where the Three's claws meet as one. Fire and water will engulf the sky, and blood will spill and turn to ash. Only the Scarred One and the Dreamless Dreamer can thrust the Prism to the sky. |
