| True Neko-mancer07-12-04, 07:33 AM | According to the latest In the Works article, the Sharn City guide is going to have a CD with 45 minuets of, and I quote, feature film-caliber original music composed specifically for use as the background music/soundtrack for your Eberron campaign. Dangit, I was iffy on whether I was going to buy this book but now I MUST HAVE IT! What do you people think of it? |
| Endless_Helix07-12-04, 08:19 AM | *gasp* Must... Have ... CD... *shakes convulsively" |
| LordofIllusions07-12-04, 08:29 AM | THAT is an EXCELLENT idea. I know DM's that have been using background music for years. ~~~ |
| The_Declaration07-12-04, 09:22 AM | well, depends of the quality actually. And i'm quite doubtful about that, all the music specifically composed for RPG i've heard so far was... like done in a weekend by one guy with his computer. So... i have my movies' soundtracks and i'll stick with that i guess. But the idea is great, if it's included with the book, i'm curious about it at least. |
| Lord Arkhaven07-12-04, 10:43 AM | While I applaud any and all creative efforts that may enhance one's game I agree with The Declaration. Midnight Syndicate's D&D CD was... weak in my opinion. As a long time lover of electronic music there are tons of ambient that just smokes them. In terms of 'traditional' fantasy tunage one must ask themself what they rather have their group listen to if not the very best like Howard Shore's 'The Lord of the Rings' soundtracks, or Highlander, or even Conan. In the case of Eberron, I encourage everyone to find/download a copy of L.T.J. Bukem's 'Earth' CD - or most any of his downtempo jungle to use when their party is tromping through the Xen'drik jungles. There is quite simply no comparison. I don't want to poo-poo on a CD before I've heard it, but Bukem plays to thousands and tens of thousands - and with good reason. There are not only professionals in the business, but masters in the field. Making the CD downloadable might shave a buck or two off the book price. A list of good roleplaying music might serve the gameplaying public better in the long run. As for me, once my group gets into a fight, the volume on a hard, banging house or trance set comes on. :D |
| LordofIllusions07-12-04, 11:08 AM | What kills ME is how people are ALREADY dogging the BONUS CD and they have not even HEARD it yet. WoTC did not HAVE to include the BACKGROUND music CD all they HAD to do was put out the sourcebook on Sharn. So why not be thankful and AT LEAST wait until you have heard the CD to pass judgement on it. ~~~ |
| Takasi07-12-04, 11:29 AM | First the short story in Shadows of the Last War and now this. These bonus add-ins are GREAT! Thank you Wizards! * starts humming theme to Indiana Jones * |
| DMAC07-12-04, 11:48 AM | It's definitely an interesting idea. I love movie scores and have a pretty huge collection so adding something something like this as a "bonus" to sourcebooks sounds very cool. Soundtracks/ambient sounds to set the mood for different segments of adventures would be interesting, even as a Web supplement as mp3 type of thing. I was reading the setting book and listening to the Myst III: Exile soundtrack on the weekend. It's a good match if you can find a copy. :) |
| St23aM07-12-04, 12:20 PM | 45 mins of Music ... sweet! now the real question is did they spend too much on the 45 mins of music making it impossible to put a full poster map of the city! ... If there is no map it is going to be very upsetting. Please Keith plead with them to spend the money on a map. I will gladly pay extra. |
| LordofIllusions07-12-04, 12:28 PM | A map of Sharn WOULD be helpful ESPECIALLY with the adventure in the back of the EBCS. ~~~ |
| Pallis07-12-04, 12:38 PM | It's a must buy regardless...but I have to say, I'm looking forward to popping the CD (if this is true!) into the player and settling down to read the book. Oh, and unfolding the huge poster map of Sharn and the bonus map of Eberron too! Well, what do you expect...they gave us the world (almost)... :smirk: |
| St23aM07-12-04, 12:42 PM | ... also something I saw in Kenzer book by Ed Greenwood Titled "Genavue" was that they did a excellent map of the whole city and then on the back they included a sewers map. A map of the undercity on the back of the map would be excellent. It is probably way to late to ask for this because the book is probably mostly done but, hey I can dream cant I? Anways moral of the story anytime you describe a large place we are going to want a Poster map WOTC. If you need adjust the price of such books as a result please go ahead. The map alone to me is worth 10 bucks more. I may not speak for everyone but, I think most would agree. Atleast most would minus the price part :D |
| Xaxor07-12-04, 04:31 PM | Now this is interesting. I was considering buying it, but now it's a forgone conclusion. It should be good. |
| Joni-san07-12-04, 05:10 PM | I was going to be happy with just the Sharn info, and now they come and add a CD with 45 minutes worth of music? OH HAPPY DAY!!! :cloud9: I can't wait :) |
| Geoff Watson07-12-04, 08:25 PM | That doesn't sound like a good idea. Sounds more like an excuse to put the price up by five or ten bucks. Music is easy to come by with an internet connection; they should have just had half a page of recommended music. Geoff. |
| Drake Dragonslayer07-12-04, 09:34 PM | IT MUST BE MINE |

| WitheringSolid07-12-04, 10:18 PM | If only WoTC could get John Williams and the Boston Pops to put out a little something music wise...I know it will never happen but one can dream:ayyyy!: |
| DMAC07-12-04, 10:35 PM | Originally posted by stembolt They must be pulling your leg, 45 minuets would not fit onto one CD. Maybe they're short minuets, mini-minuets. |
| eclipticavatar07-13-04, 02:35 AM | hey must be pulling your leg, 45 minuets would not fit onto one CD. Uh how do you figure that? 45 minutes is like 12 tracks that are almost 4 minutes each. The Flaw music CD I am looking at now has 13 tracks which total to over 63 minutes of music. |

Answer one: I assume that OH in Xenia, OH stands for “Ohio” “Ha-Ha” Answer two: I assume that OH stands for “Ohszbekistan” “In English we often use a form of humor called a play on words” |
| Ezekiel07-13-04, 07:57 AM | In other words, most minuets are alot longer than a mere minute. |

| Zaran07-13-04, 07:24 PM | I still use the original soundtrack from Star Wars in the four record format (heh - tapes didn't exist and my 8-track broke). No vocals, all music. Signed, Zaran the Geek |
| Arianna Greenleaf07-13-04, 11:01 PM | Fun soundtrack! Yeah. |
