Thank you, I never seem to find those articles before they've closed it down so you can't reply anymore.

While I feel that it would be poor form for me to say so, I'll note that as far as I can tell he doesn't even claim to have read the book - his comments and quotes are purely based off of a web PREVIEW of Sharn!

That it was pretty obvious that he hadn't actually read the book.

Grousing about how bad something sounds before you've read it all yourself is fine on a message board, but when its getting put up as an actual article on a website? Uh uh, you better know what you're talking about for that.

Well, I gave them my two cents on the subject!
I wonder if this is one of those things where someone with a really "traditional" take on D&D had an assignment thrown at them by an editor and they didn't really feel like doing it? Or, since some of the FR players were up in arms over Eberron, maybe the author is an FR devotee? :D
Whatever the case, I certainly hope he didn't get paid for such a hack job.

I saw this on the front page of Gaming Report today and thought it was in very poor form. Gaming Report is directly linked from Game Trade, so there's a pretty good chance that retailers and distributers might read that site before, say, this site, EN World, etc. I've been visiting Gaming Report regularly for quite a while now and this article seems out of the ordinary. It's unfortunate that they've treated this as "news" of the day.

yea, I am a bit confused as how this warrents being on the front page. There is really no news to it. All I can think of is this is a new type of content gamingreport is providing. However are they going to put up any comments or threads someone posts on a forum about there opinons of something they have not even read? This could flood the front page of gamingreport really fast. Perhaps I and others should email gamingreport w/ our opinon of posting opinions ;)

WTF??? Did they even READ the ECS??? *sigh* While I can appreciate and respect somebody not liking Eberron due to love of more traditional fantasy, the comments made in that idiotic rant only show how close-minded and elitist certain people can be.

I really love the blurb about playing d20 Modern and Shadowrun. How can they even hope to compare them? Because there are airships? Aren't they also in a Forgotten Realms book? It's a silly reason to poo-poo such a good book.

And what's the damn ***** about the lightning rail...???

The way I see it they're afraid of change and obviously see Eberron as a viable "threat" to their precious status quo. If that's the case, then Keith & Crew should be even more proud.

(Sorry to spit so much venom, but I can't stand such ignorance)

So the question is, if someone who's actually read the book submits an opinion, is that front page news too? Or does this fellow get special honors?

uninformed opinions are, generally, popular opinions.

I'm not too concerned about it, nor do I feel the need to hold it to a standard, because it's a reader opinion piece: It IS a glorified forum post. To hold it to any standard is unrealistic.

Should Gaming Report have shown it? Probably not, but I'll also note that their traffic is pretty low - if anyone looked at the d20 forum there, the two most recent posts (as of 12:27 pm 1-14-2005) are Dated JANUARY 10th, and DECEMBER 22nd. Pretty low volume, to the degree that ANYTHING in the d20 Forum there would be big d20 news.

In other words, nothing to get worked up about.

I'm not even sure whose opinion this "review" represents, really. 'damonwhite'? 'Lorgrim'? 'Tashin Shamma'? Not that it really matters, but, y'know, it'd be good to have an idea of what name to give the NPC gossip columnist for the Sharn Inquisitive.

DM: "You pass the time browsing through the back pages of the Inquisitive. [Dae Mon'whit/Lady Lorgrim/Tashin Shamma]'s column rambles on about the dating habits of young Aundarian nobles, something of which you are fairly certain [he/she] has no first-hand knowledge."

There's no more fitting response to aggravating real-life people than to subtlely give them their due in a gaming context, in my opinion. In the early '90s, we slew lots of bad guys whose names were permutations of our algebra teacher's name.

The actual opinionist was Tashin Shamma. I have to admit, Tashin Shamma would be a good psuedonym for an Eberron Gossip Columnist. :)
