With the Kalashtar's mindlink ability, does it last 10 minutes/effective wilder level like the standard ability, or 1 round per character level, as noted in the description for people without the XPH. If it is 10 minutes/level, then what is that "but only lasts for 1 round per character level" in the description supposed to mean? It would make no sense if the durations were different for the different versions (based on if the player had the XPH or not), but that's how it's presented... 2. How does the shroud help the Kalashtar at the Shalquar Monastery? It seems like there's nothing to stop an Inspired attack force from moving in and whacking the crap out of all of the inhabitants. 3. Can someone please give an example of when the remote viewing power manifested from the shroud resonator would be helpful? I'd think that the Kalashtar within the monastery wouldn't know anyone but the others who live there (except for maybe the PCs after they get there and leave) because they kill or imprison any inspired dudes who come walking by afaik. |

If you're not using the XPH, a lot of a Kalashtar's potential (most notabily the free 20 power points over a 20 level lifetime) is negated anyways, not to mention the Kalashtar's greatest foe. I'm not in a position to answer this question anyways. 2. How does the shroud help the Kalashtar at the Shalquar Monastery? It seems like there's nothing to stop an Inspired attack force from moving in and whacking the crap out of all of the inhabitants. The Inspired/Dreaming Dark have nasty high level psionics that back them up, including teleportation and scrying/remote viewing powers. This is just a taste of the immobile artifacts and wonderous locations that help protect Adar, and all eight Shrouds working in tandem covers all of Adar underneath it's Dimention Lock and Nondetection effects. The Shalquar Monastery relies on it's secrecy first and formost to protect this Shroud (plus divinations don't work well due to the Shroud), but there are reasonably leveled Kalashtar in there to protect it in case of roving hostiles that happen across the Monestary. And if worst comes to worst, the Shroud itself can defend the Monestary, sending an unlimited number of Suggestions to do stupid things each round. Remember, it's an artifact with a 20'th level manifester level, and the rule of averages suggests that someone's going to roll a 1 at some point. 3. You don't neccessarily need to know whoever's out there: you just have to know they're there. Just having a scout report that another hunting party is comming by and you need to keep an eye on them halves the bonus on the save from +10 to +5. Plus, it only takes a full-round action to activate the power, not an hour, with no XP/PP costs, letting you try until the Will save is failed at a reasonable rate. Note there is no range limitations on the power. And then, once you have 'contact', so to speak, you can send powers through it for no extra charge. Which basicly means you can harass them at will, especially if you establish a Metaconcert and send in the combined power of the entire group. And then there are the powers you can use at will from the Shroud Resonator, like Mind Probe to find what where the hunting party's going, so you can mess with them, or a Suggestion to run away at top speed when they wake up, and so on. Really - it's hard to imagine how you can't use it to wreak havok on the Inspired. Even the Empty Vessels need sleep while the Quor goes off to plot with their fellow nightmares. It even works as a long-range communications device, by using the Remove View power and then manifesting the psi-like ability Mindlink to talk. |
