I once gazed on her, full and well,
That noble Lady of virtuous might,
Still in her prime, and I could tell,
That I would lay with her that night.

Her precious grace and flawless form,
I still have love for to this day,
For her embrace, in comfort warm,
I would my very soul betray.

Her foes were many, friends were few,
But this did not my passion slake,
I did what any man would do,
And pledged my life, for her to take.

And though I hardly was alone,
Many where held within her thrall,
Not one did jealousy bemoan,
For she had love enough for all.

And we had love enough for she,
This mistress to whom we were sworn,
We served her well, obediently,
But then, away our love was torn.

For in their jealousy, her foes,
Sought violence against our love,
And armed with magic, sword, and bows,
Rained down destruction from above.

We fought then, for our lady’s life,
And fell beneath that violent wave,
And many a child, husband, wife,
Were slain, for her, their lives they gave.

But woe, for though we gave our all,
‘Twas not enough to hold the day,
And when the Keeper made his call,
Too many of us did obey.

Then, with a flash of deadly light,
With silence grim, a mist was spread,
The sky turned darker than the night,
When came the curtain of the dead.

And now, my Lady Love doth Mourn,
Around her, there’s a veil of Grey,
I can but stare in shock, forlorn,
And wonder why I live today.

So call me Mourner, if you want,
For that I am, for she that died,
And though you jeer and laugh and taunt,
I’ll wear my uniform with pride.

To Lady Cyre, I pledge to, still,
And, till I die, I always will.

poeticyde, I just had to be the first to say that was one beautiful poem. The last two stanzas gave me chills. Thank you for sharing such a work with the community.

Thanks, Daelkyr! I was beginning to wonder if I had bombed that one! :D I wasn't sure if Eberron based poetry was appropriate for this forum, but I thought I'd give it a shot and see what people thought. Thanks again for the comment!
