| Dawn_of_an_Age01-18-07, 05:09 PM | Am I the only one, or are there others who would like to see Cyre bio before the War. There were some major players in that place. A Cyre Bio previous to the War, I think would be very helpful on a number of levels. In essence it’s hard to know where you’re going until you know where you came from. Come on WotC, give us a Cyre Sourcebook! If you want this book, simply respond with "I DO". |
| Cifer01-18-07, 05:12 PM | I'd guess the new book about the Last War will contain information about Cyre. An entire book for it would seem a little too much. Plus, the article in Five Nations is split into Mournland and Cyre. I'd also guess there will soon be a book about all the "lesser" states like Droaam, Darguun and Aerenal. |

My thinking is a book about Cyre could also focus on the major cities of Cyre as well like Making, and Eston..etc..etc. I am in the process of helping a player create a character form Old Cyre, but I have limited resources to work with, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who has been faced with this dilemma. I want to know what Cyre was about previous to the War, who were the key players, what organizations were prevalent..you know one could go on and on. They dont have to explain the Mourning, I just want to no about the country. |
| Syltorian01-18-07, 05:43 PM | They could do something like Secrets of Xen'drik, really. Without revealing how the Mourning happened, they can still give information about locations (pre and post Mourning), people, organisations... describe Metrol, stat out the ghostbeasts, and the city of Construct. Describe and give rules for some magical weather effects, and also speak about what goes on currently on the fringes. Maybe even include a small section on New Cyre. And set in print how Cyre treated its "colonies" (what is now Valenar and Darguun)... There could be a lot in there, really. |

Lets use this thread as a way to let WotC know that this is something the Eberron Fan base would like to see. A petition of sorts. You know they read these things. I'm pretty sure its a major part of the R&D. Those are my thoughts any way. :D |
| Syltorian01-19-07, 11:56 AM | You can, of course, count me in on that petition! :) |
| From_Khyber01-19-07, 12:06 PM | What you (Dawn_of_an_Age) want is perhaps a Dragonshard or a Dragon article about the topic. Basing a whole sourcebook on Cyre before the war, would be utterly lame, despite the fact that there may be much to write about - I would personally -never- buy a sourcebook of this calibre. Even though, it might come to contain a decent amount of fluff for a Cyre-based character, how much use would it seriously provide for additional Khorvese characters? If anything, it should be a "Khorvaire Before the War" book, but even this seems dubious, IMO. I would much rather have a sourcebook, focusing on nations such as Darguun, Droaam, Demon Wastes, Q'barra, Lhazaar Principalities, etc. *drools* |

Or a book about the dragons, as has been speculated about already? While I like what they did with SoX and am dying to finally get some taste of SoS (why, oh why did they not give us anything more in the January Previews!?), a book about Cyre before the war - and Cyre, that is the Mournland at the current times - would be more useful if your campaign stays on Khorvaire. There was also an entire book on Sharn, which is one of the best ever published by WotC. Yet does a single city, even if it is one as large and intrigue-filled as Sharn, have more impact on a Khorvese character than something like the Mournland? What it would provide for Khorvese characters were information about exploring the Mournland, and about the Cyran communities throughout Khorvaire. It could include affiliations (some of the bands roaming the Mournland, or the court of Prince Oargev), the usual feats, prestige classes and spells to survive there, as well as feats that the Cyrans were known for in their days (mostly related to culture, art; thus good for bards, etc). For the campaign in general, it could have ideas for mysterious sites (in the vein of Metrol, a Cannith Forgehold, Dhakaani ruins, the lost Phiarlan demesne), new monsters (ghostbeasts, in particular), artifacts and magic items to be found. This is where the background about Old Cyre would fit in: to tell you what more you can expect about the Mournland, or with the displaced Cyrans abroad. I personally want to know about their culture before I can show best the ruins that are now left of it. As for a sourcebook on Darguun, Droaam, Demon Wastes, Q'barra, Lhazaar Principalities - I'll add Valenar, the Reaches and the Shadow Marches to that - I agree. That is something I would like too. Not more and not less than one about Cyre, however. To play the devil's advocate: is a book on these fringe nations going to have more impact on a Khorvese character than more information about one of the central nations? Are your characters more likely to explore or be from Darguun rather than Cyre/the Mournland? Now, don't get me wrong. I would be absolutely delighted to see something on the nations they have so far overlooked. The thing is, I want both (or all three or all four of them, depending on how they split up the remaining nations). I don't particularily care in which order, but I do want to see books on all of this eventually. A dragonshard or a dragon article would be great, but I am not sure whether they are not too small to fully deal with this. Unless you run a whole series on Cyran culture. And with only one article a month, that is going to make some people unhappy, if they it doesn't pertain to their campaign, either. |

I will add breifly, in ADDITION,to a Cyre Sourcebook, some Dragonshard Articles in the interim would be great. I also agree that a Sourcebook for Cyre is certainly more central to the Eberron theme than any of the fringe nations, but in all fairness I would love to see books on those too. Especially Zilargo. :) |
| Cifer01-19-07, 01:52 PM | How much does Secrets of Xen'drik do for a Khorvese character, and how much is Secrets of Sarlona going to do for them? Both are books about entire continents. The Mournland/Cyre had sections in PGtE, ECS, 5N and Dragonmarked (Cannith Prestige Class). Did I forget any? Probably. There's a lot of thing I'd like to know about before Cyre. |
| TacoClone01-19-07, 05:38 PM | Honestly, the Mournland is probably my favorite place in the Eberron world, except for the part where I wouldn't know where to begin other than a few ruins here and there, some dead bodies, and some scratched up Warforged crazy about killing living creatures. I would absolutely love a book about Cyre, pre- and post-Mourning. ...as well as a book devoted to each of the five nations... |
| Nived01-19-07, 05:41 PM | Actually I'd like to see a book entitled "Lost Civilizations of Eberron" With information on... The Giant Empire. The Dhakanni Empire. The Stone Kingdom. The Kingdoms of Sarlona. Cyre I'm sure I'm forgetting some. |
| Adhevan01-20-07, 12:55 AM | Honestly, I think the sourcebook on the Last War will provide as much information on pre-war Cyre as it does on the other nations. That is sufficient for me. I don't plan on playing a pre-war campaign, but it is sometimes helpful to know about places and events from that time when setting up plots in the current timeline. Actually, since so much of old Cyre was so thoroughly devestated and reshaped by the Mourning, an old Cyre sourcebook would be much less useful for a current day campaign than an old Karrnath or old Aundair sourcebook. But again, I think the Last War book will cover that. I will certainly purchase the Last War book when it comes out, but I would still have preferred to have the rest of modern Khorvaire detailed out before delving into the past of the already detailed areas. I won't go so far as to say it is lame to make an entire sourcebook on pre-devestation Cyre, but I will say that detailing out the rest of the modern areas would be more useful to most players and DMs. Most of the rest of the sourcebooks are geared towards modern Eberron, so that is likely where most DMs set their campaigns. |
| Syltorian01-20-07, 07:37 AM | ...as well as a book devoted to each of the five nations... Actually, I'd like that too. Five Nations, while not a bad book in my opinion, left me feeling as if it was more an enticing preview of something larger, rather than a book on its own. It just didn't go into detail very much (or had very much space for detail, to begin with). Actually I'd like to see a book entitled "Lost Civilizations of Eberron" Good idea here too. The Kingdoms of Sarlona should, with some luck, be described in Secrets of Sarlona. But I'd really be interested in a book like this, too. I won't go so far as to say it is lame to make an entire sourcebook on pre-devestation Cyre, but I will say that detailing out the rest of the modern areas would be more useful to most players and DMs. I agree up to a point. What I envisage is a book essentially geared towards the modern Mournland. The (hopefully extensive) information on Cyre before the Mourning would be there to explain current features and sites in the Mournland, and other things that influence modern characters; not so much something to set a campaign in the days the early 90s. As such, it would be "detailing a modern area". I tend to think, perhaps out of bias, being a historian, that you cannot explain or detail a modern area without delving into its history. So it would be a sourcebook on the Mournland, effectively. With large details about Cyre before the Mourning, and details about current associations of Cyrans in the wider world. |
