In our Eberron campaign we are planning to make Breland go to a complete Demorcatic government. My character is planning to raise an army. Not an army for conquest but an army to be defeated. The plan goes as follows, My character is a 4th level fighter who is dragon marked (House Tharashk) Has hooked up with the Aurum indirectly. We all know the Aurum is is a corrupt money and trade bases organization that encompasses a lot of wealthy and powerful people including members of every guild house. They're goal is to establish Democracy in Breland then have it spread across Kohrvair. Why? because democracy is good for trade more trade equals more money and more money equals more influence and power.
The strategy goes as follows whiles King Boranel is still alive we start to build an army to support Boranels heir. This army will do nothing but train more than likely in a bordering nation possibly Droam since my character is a member of Tharashk and Tharashk is one of the few houses to have diplomatic relations with the Hags. Basicly we cut a deal with the Hags give us some land near the Breland Droam border so an army can be trained there and we'll give you total recognition as a nation after Boranel dies not to mention all the $$$$ you'll be getting to have us stay there and all the $$ you'll have to keep your gnolls trolls etc... patroling the perimiter of the camp to keep spys and anyone else out. These camps can also be put in Ruuken Drall since the Aurum has corrupted Denith too.
The moment Boranel dies the Aurum supported member of the Breland Parliment will declare Democratic rule. There will be a public out cry to keep the crown alive. It will be a minority outcry. That's when our party changeling comes into play leading a small guerilla force in Sharn to commit acts of sabotage and terrorism in the name of the crown to sway public oppinion occasionaly leaking to info to the powers that be so the Democratic forces can foil plans of the royal resistance. This will go on until Boranels Heir and his new army march in to take the capitol by force. They meet the Democratic army on the field of battle my character disappears and the royal army is soundly defeated. Breland passes a law allowing guild members to own Land, I get my fiefdom and take Aristocrat as my second class and retire to the good life of wealth and political power. Not saying Tharashk or any guild house fully supports this but a few powerful members in every house support this.
There is a problem with raising a secret army and that's funding. Basicly the "royal army" will be funded through secret accounts in House Kundrak with laundered money raised through trade in illegal drugs and other contraband (it worked for Nicaragua and Cuba why not in Breland.)
As for equipping there is always army surplus and mining the mournland for deniable arms and equipment.

Hmm. Have you read the bits about the Swords of Liberty in Five Nations (p. 55)? They're pretty much shooting for exactly what you just described.

Though you should keep in mind that according to T5N the Swords of Liberty were purposely founded by the Lords of Dust to spread violence and terror, which is why, despite their fine-sounding ideals, they seem to default to violent terrorist actions that only alienate people from their cause and increase the possibility of Breland collapsing into anarchy after the King dies. They're basically the Brelish equivalent of the Emerald Claw in Karrnath.

Your group serving the Aurum would likely find the Swords of Liberty useful allies at various points, but would probably eventually have to turn on them and cut them out before they jeopardize the whole project by doing something idiotic like blowing up the Houses of Parliament. (Remember, remember, the Fourth of November...)

Fifth of November, but who's counting?

First, keep in mind you are doing this while Boranel is alive. He is a very capable lider, and he may guess/learn about what you are planning. His Lanterns are not just for the turists, you know?
Second, you will be not only against the loyal royalists (which YOU say are a minority), but against all Khorvaire: the other kingdoms will certainly be interested in mantaining the chaos of your war (helping the weaker side), Oagrev will certainly make a move, the Hags may be interested in something more than recognition, and the Lord of the Dust will revel in the mayhem.
Good luck, though.

just so I know that I am on the right track, are y'all referring to the beginning of the Glorious Revolution or some other random thing that happened on 11-5, like the first publication of Monopoly?(never mind, just saw the Gunpowder plot that you were referring to, wikipedia is cool, hey, I live in the U.S. I don't know much British history)

On-topic:
In reality I believe that it would be more peaceful, look again at British history, but look after the Industrial Revolution, when slowly all the power of the British crown was slowly zapped away into Parliament.
