| InfinityStar805-02-05, 12:05 AM | Everyone always keeps saying how they want their Elf to have the Mark of Death and how this Elf or that Elf can get it and such. One thing I keep looking at is Erandis d'Vol herself and her parents. Her mother was a pure blood Elf female. Her father was a pure blood Green Dragon (I'm guessing used some sort of change shape spell for her mothers sake). That union would make a Elven Half-Green Dragon and by the RAW she would be a Dragon type, NOT an Elven or Huminod. Yet, she still had the Mark of Death on her. So, where am I going with this? Who is to say there was not a second child, or Erandis had one herself, but some way that the Mark of Death lived on in the DRAGON bloodlines of her father's Green blood? Maybe a full blood or Elven-Half Dragon is walking around somewhere with the Mark? What do you think? |
| PoeticJustice05-02-05, 12:28 AM | IMO, Dragonmarks, when occurring on living creatures, are specifically the provinces of the "lesser" races (elves, dwarves, human and such...) By RAW, there is no way to acquire the Dragonmark of Death. It isn't statted out, and regardless of what the fluff says, it doesn't even say it must appear on an elf! If a PC wants the dragonmark of death they need to talk with the DM, make sure they know exactly he's getting in to, and convince him it's worth it to the campaign. Why anyone would want the horrid thing is beyond me. It's not enough that, in the course of an Eberron campaign, PCs will be attacked by insane cultists, plagued by ancient traps, face national prejudice, enter places abandoned by the gods (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=407341), they feel the need to beset themselves against the undying court and attract the attention of the most powerful statted enemy in the ECS. All from level one, no less! |

Half-Orcs can get the same Dragonmark as humans (can't remember which off the top of my head), so there is precidence for a single mark on two differant races via half-breeding. Perhaps the Mark of Death worked on both elves and half dragons. Or maybe when it comes to Dragonmarks, half-dragons count as their base race, not dragons. We just don't know. |

| darkthought05-02-05, 09:27 AM | I believe that Kieth said that dragons can break the dragonmark rules for races. It's someone in the Ask Keith Baker thread, and search is being stupid. That's another factor in why the dragons decided to wipe out the House of Vol, along with the elves who followed the Priests of Transition. Who knows what type of havoc a half dragon with a dragonmark can do to the Draconic Prophecy? They could completely break it and the world may be torn asunder! |

Maybe a full blood or Elven-Half Dragon is walking around somewhere with the Mark? What do you think? Your right this has been up before... As i see it the elfs of house Vol gained there mark before any breding with the dragons. Soo this indicates that both elfs and half-dragons can gain the mark of death. Lets say the in the future a Cannith mate with a red Dragon maybe that child could have the mark of making....or maybe not...(my opinon it would) A idea could be that one colour of dragon for each dragonmark will produce mark bearing children (well the possibility) Maybe Erandis had children but that is unlikly as she is a "young" elf....but here brothers or sisters will have been killed in the war it seems. Or some of them got away but they didnt have the mark....And i dont think Erandis was the only half-dragon bred from the green dragon.... I like the possibility of Erandis half-brother of sister pure dragon coming to look here up and ask about there father :) There is always the possiblity for the Crossbreeders fraction ;) (it is so secret that Keith didnt say anything on it in the Role of the Dragons shard..) As for plot ideas to bring the mark back read The City of Towers :P If you want to know more: Erandis d`Vol Encyclopedia (and more) link in my signature :D |
| darkthought05-03-05, 04:40 PM | Why can half-dragons only bear the mark of Death? Why not all the marks? Dragons, for the most part, observe the draconic prophecy, which dragonmarked individuals are a part of. As are the marks on the land, air, water, and sky. Dragons can make huge ripples in the course of the prophecy, which is why the Chamber is looked down upon by some of the elder and wiser dragons. Not to mention renegades who go off and do what they want. Imagine what a half dragon-dragonmarked person, with the mark of Death (possibly the most powerful dragonmark) could do to the world? |

Yes but Half-Elfs can get human or elf dragonmarks so obviously elf blood carries dragonmarks better than others. |

Half-elves can have only the Mark of Storms or the Mark of Detection. You are reading the line where it says that there are sometimes half-elves in the human or elven Dragonmarked Houses, which is meant to indicate that the Houses also include unmarked members, as mentioned elsewhere. But they can not have a human or an elven mark, nor can they pass it one to their children even if their own parent bore the mark. The prerequisites of the Least Dragonmark feat clearly state that one must be of the correct house and race to gain a dragonmark. This is an official answer, according to Keith Baker. |

Nevermind a certain novel that came out this month attempts to break that, but that's a subject for a different thread/messageboard/flamethrower. :) |
| Isran_Imrador05-04-05, 01:50 AM | Why can half-dragons only bear the mark of Death? Why not all the marks? Maybe they can....but they didnt try jet ;) the dragons managed to stop any more half-dragon making.. |
