In my Eberron the Last War has re-ignited (thanks to some PCs) with Karrnath making the first strike against Thrane.

I'm going to be running a game in this Eberron and I'm a little flat on ideas. I have one player that's going to be a Geomancer (and a crazy defender of nature) so I'm thinking I'm going to start them off in the Eldeen Reaches, but I'm lost (or mostly so) from there.

Any help?

Well...only knowing one character makes it a good deal harder to plan, but if you have one guy with druidic leanings, Eldeen/Aundaire could impose a Draft (Hook to get players together) or they could all be dodgers.

as far as stories go...
There's alot of things you could do...
start it with small conflicts, build up to something, add a twist...Pow! You got a story...

Like...maybe there's rumors of Warforged in Thrane rebelling against a draft, newly imposed by the Council of Cardinals. Karrnath claims it has no part in inciting riots, but everyone remembers those Emerald Claw guys that worked in the Last War. Then, the Warforged organize and no one steps forward to claim responsibility, though the Lord of Blades crosses the lips of those who know of him. Most folks believe it's Cyran Refugees. Fighting-Fighting-Fighting...Oops! Big Surprise! It was Queen Diani and Keeper Jaela Daran trying to overthrow the Cardinals and restore Thrane to a Monarchy!

Just something off the top of my head.

Aundair might use a new war as an excuse to retake the Reaches using some new research they finished at the end of the war but kept secret.

Karrnathi soldiers and/or Emerald Claw would more than likely seek to start a conflict between the Eldeen Reaches and Aundair as a distraction from an invasion they are planing.

The Cardinals of Thrane could insight their peasant followers to invade Aundair again. Also there could be members of the silver flame who want to reignite the purge of all were-creatures(shifters included).

and of course, all of this falls into the plans of the Inspired and the Dreaming Dark.;)

Mind you, Karrnath launched a horrible assault on Thrane in my game, they wouldn't have the power necessary to start a purge.

I guess it'd be best to decide the repercussions of Karrnath striking first. Thrane is decimated, large captured portions create a foothold for the Karrnathi invasion of western Eberron, Auindair using a combination of divination and outside groups (perhaps the Chamber?) has stopped Karrnath from invading by creating undead repelling barriers.

I do like the idea of a 'forged draft. would make it interesting to play a warforged, but I honestly doubt any of the other players would pick up on it. Though a general draft in the Eldeen Reaches might work, if nothing other than border patrol.

I'd imagine Breland would prepare itself against assaults from Darguun, and Darguun would barely be able to hold itself together from the bloodlust.

Here's something I'm wondering. House Denieth is the mercenary house, how do they fight in a war? They can't choose sides (being mercenaries), but they can't really be fighting their own house members, can they? Would they just work solely for the highest bidder?

Given that Karrnath has taken control of a large portion of Thrane then they would be the most powerful force of the four nations. This would cause great concern for almost every power group on the continent, except the demons would would view war as doing their job of neutralizing the humanoid inhabitants and returning their masters. The Dreaming Dark would do what ever they could to stop the Karrnathi empire from forming.

House Denieth's forces never fight each other on the battle field. They are not the only suppliers of mercenaries; the gobliniods, the gnolls, elves are but some of the ever present mercenaries used during the last war. Overall the members of House Denieth serve its interests above all others, but most of their forces are mercenaries who only true loyalty is based on their current employer.
