I usually use the AU magic system, let Metamagic spells be cast spontaneously, and allow an unarmored armor bonus. I'm gonna do away with all house rules except... 1)Spell DC: I usually add either 1/2 or 1/3 caster level to the spell DC of any spells they cast, the theory behind that being that a sleep spell cast by a lvl 20 Wiz should be stronger than that cast by a lvl 1 Wiz. 2)I may allow action points to be used to spontaneously add metamagic feats or spontaneously cast spells (but I"m not gonna tell the players that. I'm gonna make them ask me first) And I think that's about it. I'm a little concerned about making everyone prepare spells, but it seems to work for others, so I'm gonna try it. I'd be interested to hear from folks that run (and play games) that are done pretty much like it says in the book, and would be interested to hear opinions on my house rules. Thanks |

I have had several players request alterations and inclusions not mentioned and I have turned down every one of them. One of my problems with D&D in general, regardless of edition, is that there is so much published for it that if you allow it all players will come up with combo's that are complete and total cheese. That is one reason that I have been really looking forward to Eberron. It was going to be a setting with a clearly defined set of rules and options to be used. It has definitely met this criteria for me. With regard to your house rules, I really don't think that they are needed. If the spellcaster needs to take out higher level opponents with high saves, he has higher level spells to raise the DC or can choose spells without saves. With regard to the metamagic feats, I think that they are balanced as they are. If you were going to allow your house rule, I would turn it into a feat that had to be taken on top of the metamagic feats. |
