I've been nominated DM by a vote of not it ( the other people are not experianced enough to dm). Anyway, I have this idea bumping around in my skull. Supose a daelkyr decides, for what ever insane reason, it want's to see the world. Now, like all other daelkyr, it is imprisoned. So it thinks and thinks and comes up with a solution. Though it wants to see Eberron for itself, being rather impatient as daelkyr go, it is still patient in extremes that humans are not. So, using its servents, both mortal and aberations, it breeds a son, a daelkyr half blood. Now, oddly enough, it allows this son to be raised in a near normal way, being told the glories of his "father", who he doesn't know is a daelkyr.
Yet as soon as he is an adult, he has his followers sieze him and begin to modify him with grafts, imaplants, and symbiots. This is done in a way that makes it very painful for the son, yet most of them can be hidden under clothing. So they keep on torturing this boy, who by this time is quite mad, when suddenly, in bursts these people who "kill" or "drives off" the "monsters". Note that these maybe adventures duped into attacking this outpost or even other cultists. It doesn't really matter. The son is taken out of there and put into an asylum. As he is taken away his "father" sends him, through a mind flayer servent(ie mind link or something of hte kind), an image of him as this angelic ever loving father, and these nice people are his servents. And that one day he will come for his beloved son and they can be a family. With his son's help. After months of torturius existence, the boys mind is rather shatter and starved for affection. So he agrees and becomes his "father's" willing servent. The Daelkyr has an odd plan. Using his own "son" he will breed another daelkyer half blood ( whether the son impregnates a woman or uses a breed leech or something). Then his son will steal the mother while she is still pregnent and to a place so that a most unusual ritual will be done...the daelkyer will merge with the baby (creating an Unholy Scion...a very powerful unholy scion) The mother is returned to her home, under the thrall of her child, who is no longer daelkyr or human, who is hardly anything seen on this world ever. And thus, in my game, the first daelkyr is loosed on the world. His name will be the Innocent. Now this may seem kinda ram rod, but...I'm going to let the PC's have an effect on events. The Inoncent it self is thus called because, despite it unholy status, is exactly that, an innocent. Its no longer the daelkyer, and not the baby either...and also, much to its own suprise, it sees the world from a very mortal perspective. There is a bit of tweeking I need to do, but the pc's will be ignorant of much of this... But there are other things going on. This event will be "heard" numerious groups... The Gatekeepers will sense it...the Lords of Dusk feels a new power emergeing, other Daelkyr writh in their prisons...The Lord of Blades' mage allies feel a pusle ( maybe divination or maybe even jsut through magic itself)...the Dragons feel the prohphesy dancing in ways they have never seen... and other darker unknowable things stir in the forgotten cornors of the world... And again the thing that is neither daelkyr or a human or anything else is lost in all of this, its perception changed forever, now nothing more than a child with the powers of a lord of maddness and thus hideiously impretionable...and lets us not forget the Good Son, who may, in some cornor of his dark mind, with the last shred of his sanity, realize what he has done. Now... what do you think of that? Critiques? Opinions? Too big? Maybe I won't use the Unholy Scion template verbatum, as it pretty much says "Evil evil evil" as the only way it could go. So yeah...took me for ever to write this all down.

This kind of story holds the perfect shades of gray to associate with an eberron game. Its compelling, interesting, and if the players are big on the roll playing aspect and finding things out rather than hack n slashers looking for the next exp fix I think you have yourself a campaign. The interesting thing is, what else is going on in the world. As you have it set this is a long term, important, but otherwise subdued plot until much later. What else is going on, or waht is going on as it unfolds? That is something to which bares greater thought to this otherwise solid idea.

Wow, that's pretty good.

One of the main things that I was wondering is: How are you going to bring the players into this? Are they going to be hunting this thing from day one, or will they be tasked with shaping this new being into a force for good (evil, law, chaos, dragon-marked house weapon)?

As it is, with a story this grand in scope, you'll have to walk a fairly thin tightrope between the PCs not knowing anything about what's happening, or, at the opposite end, the players sit there while you tell them a story about your new creation.

Hope it works out for you, though!

Good questions all...basically what I was going to try to do is to get the pc's to defend the Child. Maybe he (yes, addding to his own confusion, he has a gender now) is taken to an orphanage some where and the PC's stumble on the Good Son trying to rescue his father-turned-child. The problem is that the innocent is now really a kid and is frightened by his former son. And so they see this hideious looking man draging a away this weird spacy child who is howling and screaming in fear. So the PC set upon him and drive him off some how and get the kid. Now, the Child is at once incredibly powerful yet also powerless. If the Daelkyr get him, they will turn him into a living portal to Xoriat. World governments that find or know about him will want him dead, as will Gatekeeper druids. The Dragons may also want to kill him. Mean while people like the Blood of Vol, Cults of the Dragon Below, and perhaps the dark unknowable horrors I mentioned will want him as a weapon: Perhaps one of them has figured out how to make a sort of monster "factory" using the Child. Hell, maybe one of the cults of the Dragon Below looks at him as a messianic figure who lead them to salvation. And the PC's stand (hopefully) between all of them and this kid, who, as far as they know, is just a kid. The Child himself may regain some of his power even and create an army of Abberations hell bent on destroying everything...or maybe he just wants to be a real boy, heh. It's still up in the air by a long shot. I have a month to beat it into shape till I have to unleash it. I think it would kinda funny even if the party adopts the kid and he turns into a fairly normal (for him anyway) person. Also, I'm just going to call him the Child from now on...easier to type fast heh.

great idea!
the Child reminds me something.
there was a comic where the spirit of the century dies on new years eve 2k and is reborn few months later, the baby is like a normal baby, but with incredible powers (more that any being in the world, or almost). she cannot access her power voluntarly ( A she may not be aware of her potential B she may not know how to) she react to very strong emotions, is she angry?? an earthquake may strike the reason of the anger, is she scared of something/someone? she warps the reality around her and transform the being into a teddy bear.
It could be fun when she is 1and a half or 2 years old
"come on little one turn uncle Joe back into a human"
"no"
"come on, i give you a candy"
"mmm.. ok.. me want candy!!!"
Shazam!
uncle joe returns a human

It can be very funny for the group to know they may be blasted away by a toddler... I bet they will be very keen to change the baby often... and no complains!

Jenny Sparks... of Stormwatch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stormwatch_%28comic%29) and The Authority (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Authority). Now there was a hero. We don't know yet what her successor will be like. She's still only five years old. Admittedly levelling cities soon after birth.

Back on topic, as a campaign device, we can imagine the dragons of Argonnessen having a rather difficult conversation, after a new fragment of the Prophecy is discovered that clarifies certain other three-thousand-year-old fragments: the "half-blood child called by destiny to unbind what was bound to Khyber" does not, in fact refer to Erandis d'Vol releasing the Rajahs, as the dragons feared, and as they were able to convince the Undying Court at the time of the suppression of the Mark of Death. Rather, the newly translated fragments suggest that it is a daelkyr child...

Hehe.. I think that would be rather embarrassing.

Black dragon, speaking in front of collective Chamber: SO what you are saying, is that we actually threw Khorvaire into raging war, obliterated an entire dragonmark, and managed to unleash an angry half dragon - half elf lich on the world... and it was a mistake???

Gold dragon: Uhhm.. if I've translated this fragment right.. yes?

All the dragons of the Chamber, collectively: Oopsie!

Black dragon: Let's not mention this to anyone.
