| Wizardman12-16-04, 06:52 PM | Who knows that she still exists? I imagine that the Aereni (and maybe the Valenari) and the dragons know about the whole 'Elf Matriarch Had Offspring With Green Dragon' and the subsequent fall of the House of Vol, but do the average Aereni or dragon (or even the leaders) know that she still exists? From the ECS, the higher-ups in the Blood of Vol and the leaders of the Emerald Claw know, and Kaius I/III knows who she is, but all he might know is that an ancient lich is the leader of the Blood of Vol, and might not know about the rest. Extrapolating from the sourcebook, it seems unlikely that the Chamber would not know, given that they investigate everyone and the name 'Vol' would have to be a big red flag, but if they do then it raises the question: why haven't they tried to finish the job? (I'm sorry if has already been asked. If it has, please direct me to the answer, and I'm sorry for asking it again.) |

The higher-ups in the Blood of Vol or the Emerald Court might either be ignorant of her history with the dragons and Aereni, or might be knowing accomplices; there might be some in each category. The Aereni, Houses Thuranni and Phiarlan, and the dragons must recognize a link between the Blood of Vol and the former dragonmarked house, but they could simply think the cult to be a perversion of the Undying Court (which might be partially true) and not a front for a surviving member of House Vol. Kaius' queen is both an Aereni elf and the wife of a vampire who may well know Vol by name. Either she has put all the pieces together but chosen not to tell the Aereni (perhaps in deference to Kaius), or she isn't familiar enough with the history of House Vol to do so, or for some reason Kaius is holding back on her. |
| Korhal IV12-16-04, 09:27 PM | The Chamber/Aereni would have to capture and successfully interrogate a really high-up member of the Blood of Vol to even get a hint that there's a real survivor of the House. And then they'd need to ascertain his/her/its identity - really, if one member of the House shows up centuries later, that's not a big deal, the House (and anyone thinking similar thoughts) has definitely been taught a lesson. If they realize it's Erandis d'Vol herself, THEN things get busy, especially since she's a lich, and we know how the Aereni feel about that. But, then there's a whole new set of obstacles to meet, like finding Erandis d'Vol, and summoning up enough troop strength to crush her. Millennia have passed, the two races aren't at war anymore, and Vol is a continent away with many restive nations in between. I don't think any Karrnathi are going to be happy about ten thousand armed elves marching through their territory, especially with the Valenar running around. Ditto for a hundred dragons - I mean, that's just going to raise alarm bells of all sorts, isn't it? And the alternative, which is to go around Karrnath, either takes you into the Mror Holds (ha! bad idea!) or up past the Lhazaar Principalities (which isn't bad if you don't mind losing everything in your pockets, at a minimum). And, of course, by that point Vol's definitely heard about the incoming force, and she's scooted away to safety. Relative to moving an army around, moving a single lich isn't that hard at all, especially when she knows how to Teleport Without Error. So whoever finds out about her is pretty much at a loss to deal with her. I'm not saying it's impossible for them to go after her, just unlikely that the Aereni or the Chamber would squander so many resources at the moment to deal with her, especially when, as far as they know, she's not posing a direct threat to either of them (the Stillborn being discovered as BoV worshippers might catalyze that reaction, though). |

Either she has put all the pieces together but chosen not to tell the Aereni (perhaps in deference to Kaius), or she isn't familiar enough with the history of House Vol to do so, or for some reason Kaius is holding back on her. Or another possibility is that she is an agent of the Aereni, sent by the Undying Court, and is herself on the trail of Vol. One of the reasons she married Kiaus was to get closer to Vol. The Aereni might know all about Vol, but if they can't find her, there is no way for them to finish her off. |
