At high levels this makes the say 20 action points such short supply. The feats that use 2 points to activate can only be used a few times an entire level which may take many sessions to even make. I was wondering if it was too overpowering to say they refresh every session. Encounters may be made easier, but a good DM would just balance the CR out so at least the pc could use his feats, and get the flavor that he is doing some extreme move more often. One reason I would consider doing this, is the feat Raging Luck (or some similar name). Whenever a pc enters rage he gets a temp action point. So a 20th lvl barbarian can get 6 extra action points every day between level 20 and 21. i realize he would not really enter a rage 6 times every day but the possibility exists to have hundreds of extra action points per level. He must use it during the rage though, but it stll seems overpowering if the other PCs don't refresh per session. David |

Ye should be saving those things for when you really need them, not burning through a half dozen every game, that just makes them too commonplace. But as a side note, a Barbarian can take the Extra Rage feat, and get 3 more rages per day every time they take it. They could potentially raged dozens of times per day if they invested enough feats in it. |

This shouldn't be so regular that players deliberately start over-dramatising in pursuit of them, but it can be effective. In the Buffy RPG, the equivalent mechanic is Drama Points, and whilst these can be role-playing rewards, one of the main points at which the GM hands them out is when things go seriously wrong for the party. So for instance, they might be attacked by overwhelming odds and captured - which advances the plot - but they'll also get extra Drama Points to spend later on in order to beat those odds. However, this is a method that should be used only very sparingly in D&D - it suits the more tightly-plotted adventures of the Buffy RPG, but not so much the more player-driven plot style of D&D. |
| The Rooster08-12-04, 04:51 PM | I like having such a limited number of actions points per level. My group began trying out their action points last night. Each player felt they were desperate and became very invested by using a precious action point. It really raised the level of drama during the conflict. Rooster |

| seraphimpunk08-12-04, 08:52 PM | I thought Action Points were similar to d20 Action Points, where one of the recent Bullet Points/ Sage Advice columns recently pointed out that action points accumulate, not refresh. So every level you just gain X more action points. If you're frugal its nutty. Too much IMHO. I'd be glad to hear that they just refresh. |

The Mechanic is slightly different in Eberron than it is in D20 Modern, IINM. |
| seraphimpunk08-13-04, 12:09 PM | Right, gotcha, yeah I re-read the action point section and caught the part about them being lost if you don't use them that level. Which is cool, i was getting frightened by my players with 10-15 action points at 3rd level already. They were just saving them for saving throws so that they were tougher to affect. |

And I happen to think that the raging luck feat is a tad broken. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix it a little? |
| Scion of Coldshard08-13-04, 02:26 PM | personally I use 1/2 level + cha mod (min 1) in action points useable per day. This makes them more refreshable and more useable. While at the same time making what people usually consider a dump stat into something much more potent. Fixing multiple problems at once, I like it ;) |
| lord zog08-22-04, 02:43 PM | Action Points (WotC) = teh suck! 8( Action Dice (AEG) = Da Bomb! 8) I was very disappointed when D20M came out and the AP system was inferior to the Action Dice used by Spycraft. I was shocked when playing my first Eberron game on the weekend to find that the settinghad gone with an even worse implementation of an already flawed mechanic. |
