Sooo....

How would you modify modules both new and classic to be played in Eberron? Where would the Little Keep on the Borderlands be in Eberron and where would the Tomb of Horrors? What is Strahd's motivation and how does the Appartus work.

Ravenloft Modules

House of Strahd

The best solution for Strahd is that he is a former hero of the Great War and returned home to a fabulous wedding for his brother before the entire party dissapeared attending and no one has survived ever since. Simply replace "Death" with a Fiend that Strahd made a pact with and the entire story works as well as anything else.

For the purposes of the story its also probably better than Tatyana survived the war but bumped her head and is amnesiac, the only survivor of the war until vampire strahd kidnaps her back.

The House on Gryphon Hill

The Aparatus actually works better as an eldritch machine than in Ravenloft itself. Dumping the connection to Strahd is advisable and instead its some poor Artificer who tried to rid himself of evil in a manner that unfortunately has created a very powerful monster instead (perhaps a Quori?)

Azalin the Lich is probably better replaced with a undead elven counsellor who for some reason was kidnapped by the Beast (perhaps via magic) and a tribe of hiding shapeshifters makes the story well worthwhile as they try to keep their existence from becoming public knowledge that the Beast is manipulating.

Adam's Wrath:

One of the better adapted modules to RL. The PCs are transformed into warforged by an artificer using an eldritch machine to track down a warforged that has tormented him for some time (the Artificer is a former worker of the Forge). To get Doctor Mordenheim's madness clear, 'Adam' should have some component of his eldrtich machine that could transfer his dying wife's soul into a warforged that for some reason will work on them.

Establish clearly that Adam is not a typical warforged as well.

The Circle of Darkness

The nation of Ghenna is something you can't really adapt very well but I think fits very well because of the amoral nature of Eberron vs. other lands. My guess is that it should be a subburb barony of Thrace that has been suffering famine for some time and the kingdom is occupied elsewhere. Yango Petronova has interpreted it as a sign from the Silver flame that he must have the populous starve themselves further for the famine to end.

This is all because Yango was driven mad long ago by a fiend that of course, will coincidentally, be released at the end of the module.

Hour of the Knife

Practically tailor made for Sharn, just remove all the horrible railroading and use changelings instead of dopplegangers with the magical artifact being a relic of the dragons.

The Evil Eye

A tough adaptation. Much of the flavor comes from the persecution of the Vistani, who frankly don't have an analogue in the story. The best way I'd do it is to make the story about a Khalashtar who is seduced by a fiend and discovers she will birth a member of her race who will aid the Inspired in their final destruction.

The heavy presence of Lycantropes would be better represented by Shifters and perhaps Nathan Timothy being an actual Lycantrope along with Matton. The two "pure bloods" potentially are something that gives the players something strongly to worry about if any of them are members of the Church of the Silver Flame.

Generic Modules:

The Little Keep on the Borderlands: A simple enough adapted module. A cult of the Underdragon worshippers exists underneath a fortress constructed on the borders of Darguun. They need outsiders to kill the infestation because it'd be an act of war if the soldiers inside involved themselves.

Modules I can't see being adapted

Touch of Death

There's no real way to adapt Ancient Egypt to Eberron as near as I can tell and this module is all about the Ancient Egypt.

I don't see a problem with an ancient egypt setting.
Put it in a far corner of Xen'Drik, underground and populate it with drow
:-)
much work...

or some timetravel and let it happen aeons before on Sarlona.

grml I wish I had the time to do such projects :-(

Hmmmm interesting though I suppose.

I'm working on adapting the Dragonlance classic modules now.

What I'd love to do is adapt the Speaker in Dreams. Instead of a halfling town, I'd want to keep it in Sharn in the Little Plains district, during a festival for Olladra, most likely. Replace the wererats with changelings, and you've got that set.

What I'd really love to figure out is how to alter the devil-summoning. Replacing the Little Plains Watch with devils is not going to fly with the rest of Sharn. Possibly possession? I'd love to figure out some way of making that work, although if it was really necessary, I suppose it could be based out of a small town in western Talenta. It should also somehow be involved with the Daelkyr, given the flayer's influence; I just don't find devils to be very compelling, and what does Shavarrath care?

I'm going to be using the old WOTC mod FORGE OF FURY as an early mod
in my campaign: basically, I set it in the Mror holds and alter the backstory
so that it has only been abandned for 20-30 years (so that the founder can
have worked on the earliest prototype warforged). Everything else can be
left as is, including the duergar (who will be the major baddies in my game,
partially inspired by the mod as it happens) and even the presence of the
juvenile black dragon.

LORDS OF THE IRON FORTRESS is also usable, though since its for 15th
level characters I won't be using it anytime soon. Still: it would be a very
good HQ for The Lord of Blades.
