| Setherial04-03-07, 04:18 AM | Hi folks I've started a new home brew adventure (see below) that features an expedition to Xen'drik to locate and retrieve a long forgotten (giant) tomb. The players employer is the lich Gath (resident of Sharns Necropolis, see City of Towers source book) and the tomb, unknown to the players, is the prison of a powerful quori spirit that has been magically sealed since before the destruction of Xen'drik. The players though promised rich rewards have little choice in completing this quest and find themselves in a very dangerous and difficult situation. Gath is not interested in the creature trapped inside the Tomb but rather in the draconic magic that traps it inside. The idea is very roughly based on one of my older adventure ideas (Tomb of Agnomon) that never got played because I lost most of my research material of back then. As a side node: I have a private eberron wiki site where I keep track of ideas such as this. If you want to contribute to such a site, adding your own adventure ideas and in return be able to read the ideas of others throw me a private message. Here is what I have so far : The Tomb of Nagath An adventure for 3-4 lvl7 characters. created by David op De Beeck april 2007 Introduction In a long deserted and forgotten temple dedicated to the worship of the great Fire Wyrm Gashaluth, located somewhere in the deep desert on Xen’drik, a living being has been trapped for ages in the tomb of a long dead king. During the Quori invasion the great king Nagath, high priest of Gashaluth, fell victim of a particulary powerful Quori spirit who had possessed the king and slowly destroyed his empire. It was only near the end, after the connection with Dal Quor had been severed, when the dragons came to destroy what was left of the Giant empire that Nagath fell in an epic struggle with the ancient black wyrm Nahassagoth. Nahassagoth burried the kings remains in a magically sealed tomb trapping the quori spirit inside for all time so it would not be able to return to its native plane. It is only now after long years of dedicated research that a very exentric and particullary old student of history has discovered hard evidence that supports the existence and possible wereabouts of Nagaths tomb. The individual in question is Gath, a powerful Lich cleric and resident of Sharn. He aquires the services of a rather unfortunate lot of adventurers to recover the tomb for him. He also stresses they should do so unnoticed. Parties Involved - Gath (Male human lich cleric 14): Gath seeks to unlock the secrets of ancient powerful draconic magic that has sealed a Quori spirit into a tomb for thousands of years. For this he is willing to risk smuggling the tomb into sharn and with it the raging spirit inside it. He hires the players to locate and recover the tomb. - Warden Gaia Sotharr (Female human paladin of the Silver Flame lvl 9): She has observerd the players following one of Gaths servants into his tomb and she is determined to find out what the Lich is planning now. She will put great pressure on the players to find out what it is Gath seeks. - The city Watch: They have players have been seen fleeing the scene of a murder and have resisted arrest on multiple occasions. They are now fugetives and a warrent is out for their arrest. - The Boromar Clan: The players have intervened with Boromar activities to many times and the clan is out to kill them. - Professor Lucas Daman (History professor and Xen’drik expert at Morgrave University, human male expert 5): He leads an expedition into the heart of Xen’drik in search for proof that the techniques to bind and use elementals used by the Zilargo Gnomes actually comes from the native elves of Xen’Drik and was possibly stolen from them. He has hired the players to accompany his expedition as scouts and muscle but later refused their services because of their trouble with the law. His ship has sailed and the players are still left in Sharn. - Trust Assassins: Two gnome assassins are send from Zilargo to sabotage the expedition Lucas Daman leads. They have orders to eliminate Daman and see to it that nothing segnificant is retrieved from Xen’Drik. Course of Events Session 1 - The players want to get to Xen’Drik but don’t have the cash to pay for transport so they look for an expedition to Xendrik in Morgrave University in the hopes of getting themselves a job as hired muscle. - The lich Gath sends one of his most intimmidating minions to the players to get them to meet him. He tells them he will richly reward them if they can recover theis ancient tomb for him and smuggle it unnoticed into Sharn. It is all too clear that the players better not refuse this undead creature. - The players, stationed in a rather rough neighbourhood in lower Dura run into trouble with the a local Boromar gang. Things escalate quickly and after a few days of interfering in the gangs business the players have themselves a small war on their hands. During a daring persuit over the rooftops of Lower Dura a halfling rogue slips and falls dead into the crowded streets. The city watch (corrupt and on the boromar payroll) try to arrest the players but they resist and flee. One thing leads to another and the players end up with a bounty on their heads and a warrant out for their arrest. - due to their trouble with the law they players are refused on board when they are about to take off to Xen’drik. They now have to find themselves differemt transportation or face Gath. Session 2 - When returning from the docks Warden Gaia Sotharr (Female Paladin lvl 9) and her company (1 cleric lvl 6, 4 guards Fighter lvl 2) is waiting for the players in the Green Hound (the inn they are staying at). She is not too interested in the warrants for their arrest but does inted to find out what Gath wants with them. She’ll tell them that dead halfling boromar thug is of no concern to her and neighter is the corrupt Sharn watch, but their business with her most hated enemy is. If the players give in to her intimmidation she will tell them to go through with the assignment Gath has given them but if they locate the tomb they are to bring it to her instead of to Gath. She can arrange transport to Xen’drik for them. tactics: The Cleric casts hold person on the most able fighter (they’ve done some research on the players and have some knowledge of thei abilities) while the soldiers try to take dosn any caster or rogue. Gaia helps where needed. |
