Adventure/Graft question [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-22-05, 08:50 PM Ok, I am making an adventure focused around the Cult of the Dragon below. When (if) I ever get it done, I will post it on these boards. Anyway, the main baddy is a radiant idol/daelkyr (I havn't decided). He is claiming to have the ability to reshape the cultists bodies, and he is proving it by giving them grafts, in addition to convincing them he is the Dragon Below.
In the first adventure, there is going to be a woman who can turn people to stone with her graft. I seem to remember a Basilisks eye graft that goes into someones hand.
If you know what I am talking about, please respond. Thanks in advance!

05-22-05, 10:15 PM I am responding because you said anyone who knows what your talking about. I don't know what your asking about, but you should probably not go idol or daelkyr. A mindflayer would be better (and I'm saying this not because it's in the novels like this graft), but because daelkyr is too powerful and would have a minion doing this type of work (maybe a daelkyr working above the illithid). And you shouldn't go radiant idol because they form their own cults, not lead other ones.

05-23-05, 07:44 AM the button is sblock and /sblock, with perenthensese around them. I had a sneaky suspition that it was in his novel. I read it, and thanks. Do you think that it would be feasible to give someone a graft like that?

I am going for powerful, a reacurring villian. I think that a Daelkyr would be best for that, and a mind flayer is too easy to kill. I mean, Daelkyrs don't care about the others, so why not enjoy yourself before trying to let out your fellows?

Use a mind flayer if you want the PCs to fight the main bad guy. Use a daelkyr if you are going for the "impossible to beat without a special means" kind of bad guy. Remember that mind flayers are often servants of the daelkyr, so you can use both if you like. "Reshaping" people's bodies sounds like something well with the daelkyr domain of influence.

The character with an embedded basilisk eye who could turn people into stone was, in fact, a character from KB's City of Towers novel. Your plot sounds somewhat like the plot of that book.

Myself, I'd use the radiant idol. Remember that "radiant" is just part of their name, and they don't have to be bright and shiny: their delusions of godhood vary as much as the faiths of a world can. Perhaps give it the Transformation domain from Races of Eberron. Of course, the basic Dragon Below domain is pretty nasty for a BBEG to have as well: it makes explaining any number of planar allies easier.

What exactly do you mean that the radiant idol/daelkyr claims to be the Dragon Below? Is he claiming he is the DB, the progenitor wyrm itself who fought with Siberys and spawned the fiends? I am not sure anyone would buy the idea that Khyber Himself lives in Sharn. Or is he claiming to be an avatar of the DB, or what? What exactly is his speech?

Same principle. And for my baddy, I wanted someone really hard to beat, but they will be gaining levels throughout the adventure (note, the adventure is really going to be a campain that goes to level 20 or above). I am going to throw in a mind flayer, but right now I want to conceal the true nature of their adversaries.
