| yossarius05-07-06, 09:17 PM | What movies have you used as the basis for your Eberron adventures? I'm thinking about basing a set of games on Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, just for fun. |
| Actionhank5705-08-06, 08:47 AM | I'm loosely basing one off the Big Lebowski. The PCs are entrusted to deliver a briefcase which they think contains some important documents, but is in fact empty. They've been set up, but where are the real documents? They'll soon find out just how many people in Sharn want to know. |

That's before or after PCs all get high and fight with Karl Hungus and his nihilists in front of the bowling alley? :embarrass |
| CameronVk05-08-06, 02:33 PM | I am running an adventure based loosley on The Black Hole where The city of Making in the Mournlands barely survived the Mourning because of a mystic protection developed by House Cannith to protect its headquarters. The Head of the House there has been influenced by a cult of the Dragon below and is boreing a great hole under the city to tap a source of increadible power (a Daelkyer) he has converted the normal citizens to mindless drones, anyone with magic talent has been drained of energy to fuel the project and the surviving Dragon Marked in the city have been made into Renegade master makers to "help survive the harsh conditions". Also a subtle madness has spread through the area alowing this to keep going. My poor players came into this expecting to find a ruined city and recover records and documents (and loot) for House Cannith and Prince Orgev. <insert evil laugh here> |
| DoveArrow05-08-06, 04:48 PM | I actually didn't intend to do this, but elements of the movie Young Sherlock Holmes ended up creeping into a recent game of mine. For example, I put in an encounter with a stained glass golem, and there was an underground, evil cult that was sacrificing innocent victims to a giant idol of the Lady of the Plague that had my players singing the Ramatep song. I thought it was funny because I had been thinking about the movie at the time, but hadn't realized how much of it was ending up in my game. Guess what movie I got from one of my players that Christmas. :) |
| Mind Flayer Monk05-09-06, 03:57 AM | I really like CameronvK's idea |
| Eriedm05-09-06, 05:49 AM | I'm thinking of using a loosely adapted Temple of Doom, set in Sharn with mind flayers behind the child abductions, from the poor sections of Sharn. I'm also going to use the Seven Samurai, set in Q'barra with the bandits being Valanar elves instead. |
| scanfield05-09-06, 07:53 AM | I took the city of "Black Pit", and filled it in with guys based on the movie Last Man Standing. |
| reese05-09-06, 11:24 AM | for more of an RP adventure, i was planning on one based of off Exorcist the Beggining. its broken down into days where certain things happen, and the PC's are being pushed away from finding out what the source of the problems are. i replaced the catholic church with the silver flame, not sure of where to place it. merrin i'm making as a cleric/expert/silver flame exorcist. obviously. hooks can be they are hired by the army to help with the natives, or provide security. or they can be sent from another branch of the church, or they could have been summoned by the demon itself. |
| neantollo05-09-06, 11:45 PM | I'm running a campaign loosely based off of Casablanca (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0034583/) and The Third Man (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0041959/). One PC is a Rick Blaine type, a former soldier with a broken heart, and another an arrogant rich socialite. Thaliost in Thrane is the base, as it serves well in the role of Wells' Vienna. As a city that was formerly a part of Aurandair, and is on the border of a long-hated enemy, Karrnath, It works well as a hub of power-group politics. |
| Sereno05-10-06, 09:43 AM | I think King Kong is just begging to be an Eberron adventure. All of the elements are already there; a lost world, giant animals, dinosaurs, a city with skyscrapers.... The only tricky part would be to put an Eberron "stamp" on it.... How about this; Kong gets brought to Sharn as a "peace offering" by Riedran ambassadors (who first take the party to Xen'drik to capture him). They deliberately facilitate his escape and inevitable rampage to be able to "save the day" using their Psionics after the armed forces of the Sharn Watch prove unable to stop the beast. This will get them greater access to Sharn's politics and futher their efforts to infiltrate and "pacify" Khorvaire..... |
| Kid SixXx05-10-06, 08:01 PM | Plotline directly inspired by the movie, Lethal Weapon. Different smugglers, same premise, psionically based antagonists for a change of pace. Drafted for a friend's campaign. The adventure hook involves the PC's to investigate the apparent suicide of the daughter of a nobleman in Sharn. Naturally, her death is no accident. If the PC's are smart, they will discover that the daughter had small traces of a narcotic substance in her system. My tenative name for the drug is "Blissbreeze." If the PC's pay attention to the papers, have underworld connections, or simply talk to friend on the Sharn watch, they'll eventually discover that there is somewhat of a turf war going on. Apparently Blissbreeze has started to supplant Dreamlily as the escapist drug of choice in the not-so-nice parts of the city. The turf war will turn out to be an event that's been going on for quite some time, but it will take the suicide of the nobleman's daughter to get the powers that bein Sharn to take notice of the situation. Little will the PC's realize that the nobleman's daughter is actually a message to the nobleman to keep his mouth shut: his import / export ventures are the pipeline bringing in Blissbreeze from Riedra. Yep. The primary ingredient in Blissbreeze will be pollen from flowers grown in Riedra. If the PC's suspect the Inspired, they'll run into a lot of resistance, but will eventually find out that the Inspired are just as surprised as the PC's that the flowers are being smuggled into Khorvaire. If the nobleman begins to talk too much, he'll be killed & the death will look like an accident, but a Kalashtar or another Psion will figure out that the nobleman died of an artificially induced brain hemmorage. I haven't worked out the other series of unfortunate events, but the trail will eventually lead to a small criminal organization run by an Adaran ex-patriots who have become Quori Mindhunters & they'll be led by a psi-forged named Cognizant. Blissbreeze is actually a substance that lowers resistance to psychic suggestion and also serves a psychic dampener. Cognizant plans to use it as a weapon against the Inspired (ie. Blissbreeze coated weapons might be able to hamper psionic ability) and the Riedrans that serve the Inspired (ie. Riedrans hooked on Blissbreeze might be more succeptable to being Mind Seeded or otherwise psionically controlled). I'll probably add a Changeling Shaper, a Shifter Wilder, or an Elan for flavor. Cognizant and his gang are using the streets of Sharn as a testing ground. It's perfect because the Watch doesn't really care about what happens in the seedier parts of town, so Cognizant's field tests have primarily gone unnoticed, and the sale of Blissbreeze finances his organization. Cognizant doesn't fear reprisals from the other criminal organziations because he & his associates have managed to Mind Seed or otherwise blackmail key members of other organizations. Cognizant's moles in ther other ganges then internally hamper any efforts to shut down Cognizant's organziation. As the PC's move into higher levels, the other DM and I have decided that Cognizant himsef might be Mind Seeded & the Dreaming Dark are actually behind the plot. The PC's will be led to believe that Blissbreeze is being tested by Cognizant as a possible weapon against the Inspired, while all along the Blissbreeze trade will be the first subtle steps in the Dreaming Dark's effort to test Blissbreeze's effects on other humanoids, in an effort to slowly co-opt sectors of Khorvairan society to be more sympathetic to the aims of the Riedra government. It won't be an outright invasion angle, but it is an effort to eventually gain carte blanc to begin the systematic targeting of the Kalashtar in Khorvaire. The Dreaming Dark won't have to attack the Kalashtar directly: the foreign governmental systems the Kalashtar depend upon for social support will persecute the Kalashtar in the Dreaming Dark's stead. Or somesuch. It's still a work in progress & I haven't worked out all of the plot holes. |
| Cifer05-11-06, 05:15 PM | @Kid Maybe leave out the part that Cognizant is an agent of the Dreaming Dark, but make him a true enemy of the Inspired for some added moral dilemma - he wishes to attack the Inspired, but abuses innocents for doing so, thinking along the lines of "end justifies means". |

I'd been thinking about that, but wanted to keep open the option for my friend to expand the scenario into open conflict / conspiracy with the DD. I planned for Cognizant to pretty much be a drug-trafficking terrorist / crime boss and possible recurring villain, but also wanted to keep a "so what if you found out? who'd believe you anyway?" avenue for the Inspired to rub the entire issue in the faces of the PC's. Or somesuch. It's still a rough scenario I haven't quite fleshed out yet. |
| Bocamb05-12-06, 11:47 AM | I would love to run a campaign either in Mournland or Sharn based on Dark City. The cool part would be to set up a latent psionic character (likely a wilder) who has to figure out that a psionic cabal of intellect devourers and Quori are currently constructing a reality to facilitate a Quori invasion. |

If you're interested, the book series Man-Kzin wars has a few short stories by a specific author, each of which redoes the plot of a different Humphrey Bogart movie done in Larry Niven's N-space. |
| Sir Elton05-14-06, 02:09 PM | Although not truly a movie plot: I really like Robert Heinlein's writing. A plot based off of the Puppet Masters (by Robert Heinlein) is promising. The puppet masters (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/monsters/puppeteer.htm) were space aliens who landed on earth. As alien psychic parasites, the puppet masters (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/xph_gallery/33547.jpg) would latch on to their hosts and psychically control them. The problem was distinguishing a puppet from a free man. It took an act of Congress, or in this case the President of the United States, to order the solution. Another possible plot that can be adapted to Eberron is the plot of Bladerunner (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083658/)/Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Phillip K. Dick. In Eberron, the Replicant represents a new Warforged: a flesh and blood Warforged. The PCs might be hired to find four new Replicants who are terrorizing House Cannith. |
