| Reylan Talonspyre03-01-05, 09:35 PM | So here I am, bored to tears, and I come up with a nice way that the PCs in my campaign can get some play time in a REAL war. Now I have my few players who dislike wars, so I kept away from them until 13th level where they could do some slobbernocker fighting and beat up large masses of things to look all cool and whatnot. So this brings me to Aerenal, who recently, sent my 11th level players to the plane of Kythri to find a group of castaway dwarves known as the Forgemasters (stolen directly from Lords of the Iron Fortress). So after a run the adventures in this large Iron Fortress (which is based loosely off of Jabba's Palace from SW) we have a skiff (sky ship) chase back to Rigus where the crew escapes with the Forgemasters. Now the Aerenal sent the group there to stop them (even if that means kill them) from developing a weapon for Erandis Vol and her trusty interplanar pen-pal, Imperagon. Well, needless to say, not everything in Eberron happens the way the PCs want it. Seems old Vol got it only a day before the Forgemasters were rescued, then she plane shifted (or traveled through a manifest zone) back to Eberron to begin her conquest. Trick is this, there is also a time dilation the PCs found out between Eberron and Kythri, which would make it about 1 day (Kythri) = 1 month (Eberron). This means that the next day when the PCs rescue the dwarves and make it home through a kindly practioner of magic in Rigus, it is already 1 month since Vol left with the weapon. Uh, oh. Here is what I have them coming back too ... 1. Erandis Vol (the Liche Vol) and her allies in the Stillborn take Pylas Talaear and infect the Undying Court with the deathless plague which is created to resist spells and bring about a timely end to the deathless. It was engineered by Lord Imperagon of the Iron Fortress with the help of the Forgemasters who designed the equipment to create it. 2. There will be a hurried chase to get an antidote as Vol invades Aerenal with not only Stillborn support but also the Green Dragons of Aerenal and a few sects of the Cult of the Dragon Below. All in all it will start in the north, while the Valaes Tairn, Silaes Tairn, and most notably the Draleus Tairn fight guerilla warfare against the armies of Vol. 3. The players are not involved in this fight until Pylas Talaear, Pylas Zirinth, and the Dajar Orioth (Jungle of Daggers) have been taken by the Armies of Vol. They are busy fighting her Death Knight General in Korranberg while they search for a way to cure the Aerenal. 4. Lan Hazal (from Sharn Sourcebook) will be conducting attacks on the PCs for Madam Vol and will be using mostly Blasphemes and Bleakborns from Libris Mortis to keep my players on their toes. 5. The players will end up finding this mystical root (Boxyl Root) in the Shadow Marches, but will need to get past a Boneyard (tough bastage) to get the root. If they succeed they can retun to Aerenal and help the Priests of Transition to create an antidote. 6. The sad part is the root doesn't work, and no one knows why. 7. The Sibling Kings order the Deathguard and Cairdal Blades to begin a withdrawl to Shae Mordai as their fall back position and that all available aid be given to the Tairnadal to retreat from that area. (PC adventure) That is all I have thus far ... suggestions ... comments ... I have alot of adventures to get my PCs involved in and some bigger conflicts to deal with. I just liked the idea of a world shaking WAR but something that doesn't necessarily go on within the Five Nations or Khorvaire for that matter. Plus, since my human true necromancer became a Priest of Transition (modified the class) he is a voice of change in the order of priests that gets to make some descisions. Ascendant Councilors, Undying Councilors, Undying Corsairs (my creation), Tomb Wardens, and Undying Soldiers are going to be falling ill and falling apart quickly and without cause. All deathless will be infected on Aerenal through simple airborne properties (the virus is extremely virulent). It takes about a week to kill two hundred Ascendent and Undying Councilors ... significantly weakening the Council when the Armies of Vol begin to march. |
| Isran_Imrador04-02-05, 01:09 PM | Undying Corsairs may we see them? |
| Dragom04-02-05, 02:55 PM | Annihilating the Court may be a little extreme even at level 13. Just remember a big gap could occure in Khorvaire if the Valenar come home to save the day again. Which they probably would. Let the PC's find a new ingredient that will work when mixed with the old one. When the Cavalry comes, it should be more of the PC's protecting a single temple of weakened deathless in a horribly drawn out fray that will tax their mighty powers and allow them to fail if they do so choose. Saving the whole of the Undying Court can be forgotten if the party allows helpless deathless to be slaughtered by their hated foes. |
| Ellipsis04-02-05, 07:54 PM | That is epic, well thought out, and evocative. I am curious, however, how a human joined the Priests of Transition. But really, this sounds like a fantastic scenario, and if you would do a running synopsis, I would definitely read it. |
