Also what is the weight of a wall of force per square foot, if any, and how many degrees can a wall of force be bended when cast? My idea if you can, is to get a plate of strong light weight metal like steel or mintril (sorry if my spelling is wrong) and have a small thin version of wall of force meld around it, leaving about 5 inches of it at the center exposed. There I would weld a rod of exactly 5 inches thick and and 2-5 feet long to the exposed area of the force plate, this rod would be made of entirely admantine or mintril (again sorry for my spelling). There the rod would be placed into a block with a hole of 5 inches wide and 2-5 feet wide made from a combination of soarwood and admantine. The block itself would have a series of holes going around it. These holes' edges would be made of admantine (which where the admantine of block is located) and would be filled with molten admantine. This causes the rod to be safely secure to the block. This block in turn would be attached to a series of holes inner most part of the hull. The hull itself is composed of three parts the inner part being the part of the hull you can see from the inside, the middle where the force plates are located, and the outer part which can be seen on the outside. After attaching the thousands of force plates to the inner hull, the outer hull would be attached by having it cover over the force plates and nailed completely through with extremely thick admantine rods. The area where the outer hull is nailed is at its very edges, about a few yards, where it is not covered by force plates. The walls, ceilings, and floor are all reinforced the same way. What do you think of my idea? And sorry for this long post, habit for detail. |

As far I know a wall of force behave exactly as the spell of the same name. That being said I see no reason not to allow a character to create several walls of force to create a protective barrier around an airship. As for the rest of your idea, perhaps I'm not understanding it right. Just to clarify are you trying to create a wall of force the size of a single panel on the ship and then put dozens of them together like a normal ship? It thats the case it would actually be easier to just create a ship shaped wall of force and paint the insides. |

The wall cannot move, it is immune to damage of all kinds, and it is unaffected by most spells, including dispel magic. However, disintegrate immediately destroys it, as does a rod of cancellation, a sphere of annihilation, or a mage’s disjunction spell. Breath weapons and spells cannot pass through the wall in either direction, although dimension door, teleport, and similar effects can bypass the barrier. It blocks ethereal creatures as well as material ones (though ethereal creatures can usually get around the wall by floating under or over it through material floors and ceilings). Gaze attacks can operate through a wall of force. The caster can form the wall into a flat, vertical plane whose area is up to one 10- foot square per level. The wall must be continuous and unbroken when formed. If its surface is broken by any object or creature, the spell fails. Wall of force can be made permanent with a permanency spell. Material Component: A pinch of powder made from a clear gem. |

The walls of force themselves are sealed between the hull. And then since the walls of force are molded around a sheet of metal it would stay attached to the hull. So the walls of force themselves do not move, since it is inside the hull, but the airship its self certainly can move. Imagine this you are in a car you yourself do not move, but the car certainly does. |
| Dragonmann07-21-05, 10:23 AM | Airships have always been refered to as being made from soarwood... but anyway I think any caster with something that emulates mastery of shaping high arcana, such as the recaster, or other PrC could simplify the task greatly. I am not certain if a wall can be "attached" to an object which moves and therefore move with it. And finally, pretty interesting use of the Star Trek "Structural Integrity Field" |

Imagine this you are in a car you yourself do not move, but the car certainly does. That's not really how the spell works. If an item is immobile, that means it doesn't move relative to the planet it's used on. You can't just pack it up inside a vehicle and then move the vehicle. A Wall of Force's absolute immobility is both its strength and its weakness, and you can't just discard the downside while keeping the upside. |
