| Nedlum02-28-05, 12:34 AM | For those of you just joining us, our topic today is Dreadhold: a maximum security prison for political dissidents, evil geniuses, and those spoken of in Draconic Texts. But, more specifically, who might we find there? Some thoughts: Vol: After one band of intreped adventurers almost discovered the truth of the Blood of Vol, the cult leader infiltrated the prison island for her own protection, using chinks in the security to keep in continual contact with her minions. Kaius III: What does one do with a grandson that you don't have the heart to kill? Kyrala ir'Wynarn: Unknown by most of Aundair, Aurala's twin sister survived child birth; fearing the strife of a secondary civil war within the nation even as it waged war for the throne of Galifar, their parents made other arangements for this unfortunate daughter. Saint Yanna: Nobody knows what horrors the Dark Flame whispers to the souls of the faithful, what vile acts it tempts them to with the veiled voice of their holy cause. But surely no such act has been committed, at least not after the Silver Purge. Right? |

Interesting! A man in the iron mask style campaign. War brewing, Aundair planning to start the war anew, can you replace the war-mongering queen with her twin before its too late. Break into Dreadhold, protect her from assasins, get her to aundair to the estates of the conspirators and prepre her for the switch A nice twist would be that Aurala has no intention of starting the war up again and the party is helping the pro-war nobles to replace her with a puppet |
| atanhel02-28-05, 08:01 AM | how about this: Dreeadhold. this high security prison is a high serurity prison for a reason! the worlds most dangerouse criminals are lock up in it's vaults. These man can destroy korvair, if only they would gather under the right person! And there are more who saw this! The dreaming dark sees a potential army of the most powerfull and dangerouse men in korvair, as a treasure trove! and all they have to do is let one of their agents be locked up, so dreadhold kcan be concured, inside out! |
| TwinBahamut02-28-05, 09:51 AM | Honestly, if you ask me, the Kaius III one is too predictable... Sure, everyone might think he is the real Kaius III, but what if he is actually the insane doppleganger who killed the original Kaius III and tried to assume his identity before Kaius I stepped in to save Karrnath? What if someone mistakenly freed him, and he was free to try the same in Breland? |
| Korhal_IV02-28-05, 02:18 PM | Lhaazar Princes, perhaps? It's a good place to put 'em while waiting for their followers to ransom them (if it ever happens). Perhaps the King of Galifar, still alive due to a god's blessing, but secretly kidnapped and deposed because of his heirs' greed? Or a great kalashtar sage, locked away by nobles conspiring with the quori? |
| Gurv02-28-05, 07:48 PM | It's not the real Kaius. The truth is that the current Kaius has found the last living member of the line of Vol. Kaius found this individual and placed him in Dreadhold where even Erandis can't reach him, although she stays close by. Kaius uses the threat of violence against this prisoner as his line of defense against the lich, and it is one of the main reasons Vol has been forced to reduce her influence over Karrnath. Personally, I think that Dreadhold is built on a manifest zone to Dolurrh. The zone manifests an effect similar to the entrapping trait of the Realm of the Dead, although there is no risk of becoming an incorporeal shade. This is why the dwarves hate the place: they have means to offset the effects, but they are still unpleasant. It is the only way to explain why such important (and sometimes high-level) people never escape. Think Azkaban, with a difference source of apathy. Of course, that doesn't mean it is impossible, just not likely to work without outside aid. |

Consider it stolen ;) Anyway, here are some more prisoner ideas: 1) Dhakaani warriors bent on the destruction of the Five Kingdoms (1 down, and 4 to go ;) ) and the restoration of the ancient hobgoblin empire. These guys mean business, and perhaps one of them does indeed have information about the Mourning. 2) Agents of the LoB. These flesh-haters are one step away from the LoB himself. All of them are powerful juggernaughts who have committed attrocities against the "living" races of Khorvaire. 3) Some monstorus servants of Droaam... perhaps a medusa or two. Hmmm... I like that idea. Perhaps the medusa is given special privledges in return for pacifying/petrifying some of the more troublesome inmates. 4) An hier of Syberies or two that the dragons of the Chamber want kept out of the way... until the right moment... 5) Several members of House Tarkannan (sp?) whose abberant dragonmarks would cause death and destruction if ever set free upon the world. I'll add more as I think of them. |
| shadowpavement03-01-05, 06:08 PM | ...Sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit, these four commandos escaped from Dreadhold, a maximum security stockade, and now survive in the Sharn underground as soldiers of fortune. So, if you have a problem and no one else can help, and if you think you can find them, maybe you can hire The S-Team. |

Guard1: Sir there is an awful lot of paper mail to a one "Last heir of the House Vol" to a prisoner in cell number 431 Captain: [Flips through Khorvaire Cronchler] Hmmm... Guard1: I also noticed that the prisoner in cell number 431 is a half dragon. Captain: [Flipping through the comic chuckling] Oh really? Guard1: I've also noticed she happens to be emmiting some sort of odor like that of an undead soldier from Karnath. Captain: [Flips to personals] Uh hmm. Guard1: She also seems to be casting a lot of spells of the divination and conjuration sort, and even I a simple guardsman of low rank with means of detecting magicial use only within Dreadhold has noticed this...sir? Captain: [puts down paper] Coffee break! |
| Lokiyn03-08-05, 09:41 PM | of course i like the idea of the prisoners paying for thier keep. Liquid pain extractors. one prisoner assuming an average constitution will survive 9 extractions. thats 900 gp worth of liquid pain for sale and or consumption. Let the prisoner rest for a month ans extract some more. With enough prisoners you could extract maybe two doses a day without much problem. Hmm how about a couple of abberent marks with extreme mark powers kept in an antimagic cell and studied by house wizards. |
| jesterjeff03-08-05, 10:42 PM | Legendary Prisoners of Dreadhold: Doctor Susannah " The Crone" Crane; A skilled 'mentalist healer', Dr. Crane delved deep into the minds of hundreds of the mentally ill and criminally deranged. But her exploration of the mind held a great cost, The madness she cured in others infected her. During the day, Dr. Crane healed the sick but as the sun set over Sharn, The Crone came out to play. In the six months that she walked the towers, The Crone tortured and killed 30 people, released psionically augmented illnesses upon the hapless citizenry, and kidnapped and ransomed the children of two wealthy houses. In more than one instance, Dr Crane herself was called upon as an expert in dealing with the insane monster perpetrating these crimes. After the six months of terror 'The Crone' released upon Sharn, an intrepped band of investigators tracked her down and captured Dr. Crane, loosing one of their number to her deadly skills. Locked within Dreadhold for the past 3 yrs, Dr Crane has completely lost herself to her madness, now only The Crone remains. The Puzzle; It is said that the treasures hidden within the wilds of Xen'drik are all powerful, none more so than the Entity known as the Puzzle of Xen'drik. Found 2 yrs ago by an expedition sent by Morgrave Academy, the Puzzle was part of an unusual find, An abandoned temple left in pristine condition. It's walls covered with tapestries of foul evil and statues of twisted outsiders, The Puzzle was resting upon an altar. After documentation the Puzzle, tapestries and statues were returned to the Academy for study as there was some hope that it was a possible gateway to the planes. They were half-right. The 1st victim was a student, assigned to take sketches of the Puzzle's many sides and decrative designs, She was taken in by it's strange and beautiful patterns. After 3 days of attempts she solved the Puzzles secret and released her doom; as it opened itself a portal ripped itself open in the air above and from it stepped a trio of beings identical to those in the tapestries and statues. Twisted humanoids, covered in metallic body modifications and alien organic growths and grafts, They rended her limb from limb but somehow kept her alive, only to reattach her limbs in a pattern similiar to the Puzzle's own pattern and design. The Trio wandered the Hidden alleyways and the darkness of Sharn for weeks, slaughtering those unfortunate enough to catch their interest. With luck these fiends were finally stopped, but a dilema was discovered, the Puzzle remained. It had returned to it's original form but was impossible to destroy, so a comprimise was made and it was confined within the darkest hole within Dreadhold. Where those who know of it hope it shall never be discovered. |

Let me try: A dangerous sorcerer of the Cult of the Dragon Below, who has taken measures to hide his powers, has arranged to have himself imprisoned in dreadhold. The prisons proximity to Khyber and the guards' tendancy to make the prisoners mine for Khyber shards will put this operative that much closer to Khyber, where he may be able to free one of his imporisoned Rajah masters. Once free, the rajah will likely attempt to gain control over the guards and other prisoners, which gives it a mighty scary army. What do you think? |
| jesterjeff03-09-05, 08:20 AM | Sandman; No one knows his real name, only the obvious alias he gave to the constables who captured him. The Sandman was a scourge of the night in Sharn, a hooded rapist who would pou handfuls of sand into the eyes of his victims when he left them to die. He gave no explaination, no statement, He only waited for them to find his trail. During his trial he sat and laughed as the magistrates read his charges and that night, with no weapon available to do so he manages to kill himself by opening his veins. The body was disposed of and everyone breathed a sigh of relief, until the next night, When the Sandman came. Still no one knows what happened, what dark oath he made, what rituals he secretly completed, they only know that he has returned. Now a spirit of death, his body composed of his beloved sand. Able to pour through any crevase, reshape himself at will, and recover from any damage; The Sandman became a different nightmare. Months passed before a band of wizards were able to stun him long enough for his sand to be captured. Unable to be destroyed, Sandman is contained within the Warden's office in a vast hourglass. It's only time that keeps the peace. |
