| greatfrito04-11-05, 09:15 PM | So uh... I ordered my RoE from Amazon on Friday - it said it was "prerelease" still, but I shrugged it off. Eager as I am, I checked the order today. Amazon has RoE slated to be -released- on MAY 6th still, and wasn't going to give me my damn copy until the end of May. Suffice to say, I cancelled, but it brought up the question of: with the whacked-out release date, and the misinformed and non-updated cover art, is there something wrong with Amazon? I don't usually shop online, so this could be normal and I'd never know, but FRPGames, from whom I've purchased minis, seems a much better deal for all its worth (and they know when the dang book is out). |
| Euangelion04-11-05, 09:27 PM | Barnes and Noble also has it slated for the 6th. I think that the gaming/hobbie stores were allowed to sell it early, followed later by the big stores, in a show of support for the "little guys" who can't sell the books 30% off like Amazon. It comes down to whether or not it's worth it to you to have it right away at full price while supporting the entrepeneur gaming stores, or are you willing to wait longer and save ~$10. You make the call. Then again, I could be wrong about the strategy. |
| Junkyard Dog04-11-05, 09:48 PM | Stranded as I am in the D&D wasteland that is Puerto Rico, I also ordered the book on Amazon, as I do any of the new books that I know I'll want to have, because by the time it gets to Borders or the one hobby store in San Juan, Amazon ends up being faster, or perhaps I should say not as slow. This is typical of new D&D releases: they'll show a ridiculously late release date, provide no further information and then one day you'll wake up, well in advance of the date they tell you, and you'll have an E-mail saying that it's been shipped. Then, if you live in PR, you wait a week or so and then if all goes well you'll have it, weeks after everyone in the States does. |
| KP9104-11-05, 09:56 PM | My mom forces me to but all my books on Amazon because she doesn't want to drive all over (damn this small town). They always have the cover they were given the picture of and don't update it. They also always have a very late release date. |
| shadowpavement04-11-05, 10:12 PM | A good online place for getting game books is stiggybaby.com the name sounds silly but they've always been really good with delivery time and availability and their prices are really great. Take a look and see what you think. |
| Welt04-11-05, 11:57 PM | Generally, DnD books have a release date in the beginning of the month. Generally, Amazon doesn't get in/ship DnD books until the end of the month. For some reason, Amazon gets their DnD books 2-3 weeks late. :waits: |
| greatfrito04-12-05, 12:34 AM | Well I settled on a gaming-specific shop online (the lowest price put it as low as Amazon with shipping and handling), though I'm becoming fast friends with FRPGames - if only because I found them one evening, and they were pretty good at getting me my order of minis and "Unexploded Cow". Seems odd that Amazon would be consistantly slow. Oh well, I don't mind -where- I get it from, so long as I get it. |
| Beleriphon04-12-05, 12:39 AM | Amazon is only slow for new releases. If they have the book in stock now, they can get it to you in a few days. The problem is of course they are always late in picking the books up, I think thats what allows the discounts. |
| Flame_Drake04-12-05, 01:13 AM | I think the problem is actually that they accidentally released some books early once and got in deep legal caca with WotC forit, so now they release the books well after the date their given so that that won't happen again. At least thats the Urban legend on the boards. Drake |

At least thats the Urban legend on the boards. Drake Certainly possible. That or they pick up the left overs from the first run cheap, and thus pass on the savings to us. Thats less likely though since one month late wouldn't really be the left overs from a print run. I guess they just buy in bulk and it take a long time to ship. |
| GryMor04-12-05, 05:06 AM | Amazon didn't 'accidently' release books early, they were shipped books without any specified nor agreed to street date and immediatly used those books to fullfill preorders. WotC retail stores got undercut on release date and price. Now Amazon doesn't get sent WotC books untill it's allready in the stores. If you have one, support your FLGS, if not, guess you get to wait for Amazon. |
| okaynowa04-12-05, 07:08 AM | Living all the way out here in Turkey, I'm also obliged to order from Amazon. My experience has been rather like Junkyard Dog's-- the order usually ends up shipping earlier than the date given on line. It's still later than people in the States get it, but not as bad as the absurdly late date suggested by the website. Keep the faith! It's better than not getting the books. |
| Griff_Goodbeard04-12-05, 08:29 AM | I used to buy all my books at Amazon, till I found gameoutfitter.com they are much quicker. I pre-ordered RoE, and LoM and they shipped them Friday. Tracking at UPS indicates that I should recive them today. :cheer: :cloud9: |
| okaynowa04-12-05, 08:37 AM | Ah, but you're in Ohio, right? Even if mine shipped today, they'd have to cross the Atlantic... and the Mediterranean... and the Marmara... |
| Ishorn04-12-05, 08:54 AM | Why not buy your books through Overstock or Walmart.com. They are cheaper and they release the books the same days or earlier than most book and hobby stores. I also believe that they ship to Puerto Rico. I have a story about buying this book. Friday I was checking out Ebay on RoE and found a comic book store in the Chicagoland area selling the book buy it now for $13.97 with shipping and handling for $2.50 bring the total of the book to $16.47. The store had 29 copies to start with and were down to 13 by the time I placed my order. I received a confirmation email that the book was shipping. The next day I received an email stating that they would not ship the book unless I sent them an extra $4.50. Their reason was because Ebay had listed the item wrong. I was angry. The only reason I was buying the book from was because they were cheaper than Overstock or Walmart. |

I also believe that they ship to Puerto Rico. I checked them out. Walmart don't ship to non-US destinations. Overstock do, and their base price for Races of Eberron is the equivalent of £10 - a good saving on the £15 or so Amazon UK are charging. However, international shipping rates cripple the deal - standard 10-14 day shipping and tax come to £17, for a total of £27 - well over the retail price at the local FLGS. |
| Fevil04-12-05, 03:21 PM | If I buy online I buy from www.gameslore.co.uk Its a British company, so of limited use to the posters here. I did originally order RoE from Amazon, but as of yesterday they were due to post on the 6th of june! Needless to say I canceled and went to Gameslore. EDIT - I hate the leaving wizards default page, it totally mucks up the hyperlink function. |
| Tap Tap04-12-05, 03:23 PM | Noble Knight Games is also superfast and with a nice discount off of the cover price. I am thinking they are located in Florida?? So for orders from Peurto Rico or places thattaway may arrive sooner than I get them. I am located in Washington state and I get them about 1 or 2 days after the release date. |
