| Bocklin03-17-06, 10:59 AM | Hi, I don't know how long this has been there, but if you go on the "Year of Dragons" page... http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/yearofdragons ...you can download a pdf brochure with all the dragon-themed products of WotC for this year. You will see that there is a book called "Dragonmarked" planned for November this year. Here is the introductory text: Dragonmarked™ This detailed supplement provides players and Dungeon Masters with an extensive look at Khorvaire’s thirteen dragonmarked houses and expands upon the remarkable powers wielded by dragonmarked characters. An Eberron™ Supplement $29.95 US 0-7869-3933-8 SKU 953807200 November 2006 Sounds like something I would be happy to buy. Bocklin |
| (Psi)SeveredHead03-17-06, 11:32 AM | Sweet! So, which is your favorite House? |
| RagingDemon03-17-06, 11:48 AM | Hmmm... guess :P |
| Bocklin03-17-06, 11:50 AM | All of them are pretty interesting, but I have a soft spot for House Tarrashk. Cannith coming far second. Bocklin |
| Rechan03-17-06, 12:48 PM | House Medani! :D ... Yes, I'm weird. |
| Kid SixXx03-17-06, 01:12 PM | House Medani! :D ... Yes, I'm weird. If you are, then so am I. One of these days I'll have to post my statblock for my PC, Airik d'Medani. |
| Lord_Cabby03-17-06, 09:10 PM | I just found out about this book and I cannot frickin' wait! The Dragonmarked Houses are one of the best parts of Eberron (I love the way Keith added new races, and then used the Houses to give players an incentive to stick with the PHB races. That man is a genius) And btw, my favorite house is definitely House Cannith. Yeah, a lot of people say that. But Artificers and Warforged are cool dangit. |
| Splendide03-18-06, 08:38 AM | I will get psyched when I read that all of the authors have both played and run Eberron. |
| WarlockDa03-18-06, 09:10 AM | If I recall right, last listing for this book I saw on Amazon listed Keith as the author,..so I'd say that counts more than authors that merely have played and Gmed Eberron :D |
| Dragonlover03-18-06, 09:13 AM | Keith Baker, Michelle Lyons and C. A. Suleiman are the writers. We all know who KB is, Michelle has done stuff for Hellsing D20, Trigun and BESM, as well as one of the new V:tR books. Suleiman has done a lot of Vampire stuff and worked on Heroes of Horror, in addition to some D20 stuff for White Wolf's Sword and Sorcery line. Unfortunately, I can't say anything about wether any of it's any good as the only WW I've played is Mage and I've not used anything off that list. Hopefully though there won't be any major mess-ups. With regards to the rest of this years releases, I'll definitely get Dragon Magic, MM4 and Fantastic Locations: Dragondown Grotto. I may buy the Dragons of Faerun book, simply for the fact it'll have some really cool stuff in it (hopefully). I may also splash out on some of the Miniatures, and I might be able to swing the colossal red dragon as a birthday gift :D . Dragonlover |
| BoneLord_of_Skullthrone03-18-06, 02:03 PM | :dancin: Yay! Something else for DnD that I can spend my lifeblood on! :cheer: House Deneith is my favorite, with Cannith a close second. It's just a shame that I can't have a Deneith-dragonmarked hobgoblin samurai. :( |
| (Psi)SeveredHead03-18-06, 02:16 PM | I'm hoping there is info on the War of the Mark, and maybe the destruction of House Vol. For whatever reason, I really like "House" Tarkanan. |
| Turkforged03-18-06, 03:25 PM | House Kundarak, If you are trusted; all doors are open to you. |
| kidman03-18-06, 05:57 PM | i knew about this but i cant wait!!!! there is going to be so many things for dragonmarked pcs now!!! maby we will get uber dragon marked feats and prc's !!!!!! im a fan of house orion ever since i read the first war torn book i kinda wanted to learn more about them and i mean come on teleporting is awesome!!!! |
| Lady Morn03-18-06, 07:19 PM | If they want my $30, there'd better be a meaty chapter on Aberrant marks... |
| Edymnion03-18-06, 08:40 PM | Michelle has done stuff for Hellsing D20, Trigun and BESMThats good news for me. Why? Because BESM is all about fluff, and not crunch. They have entire sourcebooks for how to run vastly differant games that do not introduce a single line of new crunch, just tells you how to run the stuff out of the main book in the way you want. If he's done BESM, then he must know how to tell a good story without having to invent a hundred and one new mechanics to back it up. Thats a very good sign, in my book. |
| Wren03-18-06, 08:50 PM | Indeed. New "fluff" is nice. I enjoy reading the Eberron Supplements just because of such "fluff". ANY info on secrets of House Cannith would be very good NOW! :D Yet, a few new feats and prestige classes would not be unwanted... he he he. :plotting: |
| Edymnion03-18-06, 09:25 PM | Yet, a few new feats and prestige classes would not be unwanted... he he he. :plotting:More Artificer specific PrC would be nice. So many areas that could be explioted simply by making PrC for each focus of items. A construct focused artificer. A weapon focused artificer. An armor focused artificer. A wonderous item focused artificer. They'd all make for good PrC, and they wouldn't take much to whip up either. |
| Ryuu_Tenshi03-18-06, 09:42 PM | House Sivis, *****es. Despite having some of the least powerful dragonmarks, they control the flow of information, and furthermore they are gnomes. Eberron gnomes are incredibly badass. Well, most things in Eberron are badass. But I like intruige. Meh. That said, I -really- hope that this book sheds some light on where House Sivis sits. And possibly make their dragonmarks a better option. I doubt that -anyone- takes the Sivis dragonmark. There ARE places it could be useful... but they are few and far between. And don't even get me started on the Siberys mark as compared to some of the other marks. Symbol of Death is powerful. But it isn't Mass Heal or Prismatic Wall. That's that. I'm sure other people have their own opinion on this and I'd -love- to hear it (I'm having a huge dillema with my PC from a story perspective here... I play half story and half power, so while from a story perspective giving her a Siberys mark would be amazing, from a mechanical perspective it is cutting off an arm. possibly two.) So yeah. Mmm, intruige. Tastey, tastey intruige. |

| Azazyll03-18-06, 11:11 PM | I'm personally a big fan of Vadalis. I was happy to hear that Keith worked on Ghallanda, because I think it has the most role playing potential (in that the mechanics are a handicap from a combat perspective). Personally, I'm giving the group I DM a ghallanda butler who takes care of their HQ, who has a lot of aces of his sleeve (a la Jeeves or Alfred, but with dinosaurs). I'd like to see info on non-cannith artifice myself. I imagine all of the groups have artificers. It would be nice to see a few things that break the mold along those lines. While it would be cool to see an artificer Prestige Class that fit each kind of magic item, i'd rather see something totally different that I would never have thought of. That is, after all, why I buy their books. |
| Splendide03-19-06, 05:22 AM | Yeah, I think Sivis definitely needs some depth built into it. Specifically why everyone is willing to trust them, and hammer that in. Tharashk is my current Top Of The Pops for favouritism. How easy is it to make them the Eberron equivalent of Texan oil barons? :D |
| AntiSean03-19-06, 09:06 AM | 23 posts and no mention yet of House Lyrandar, the greatest of them all? For shame... Airships, baby - nuff said! :) |
| InfinityStar803-19-06, 09:20 AM | House Orien! They control the flow of everything, and there mark powers are just so cool! |
| Khaine03-19-06, 09:58 AM | 23 posts and no mention yet of House Lyrandar, the greatest of them all? For shame... Airships, baby - nuff said! :) OK, I'll mention House Lyrandar ;) They rule! Cannith is a close second though... I still love the Aberrant Marks best though :mage: And I assume everyone noticed the advertising for the book mentioned "Khorvaire’s thirteen dragonmarked houses"? MarkofDeathMarkofDeathMarkofDeathMarkofD eathMarkofDeath :cheer: :w00t: |
| jaydubyadub03-19-06, 10:15 AM | Vadalis for the win. Magebred warhorses for one mission, trade 'em in for a pegasus or a unicorn the next as needed. Want a magebred warbear as your animal companion? Want an awakened horse as your cohort? =P |
| Dragonlover03-19-06, 10:45 AM | And I assume everyone noticed the advertising for the book mentioned "Khorvaire’s thirteen dragonmarked houses"? MarkofDeathMarkofDeathMarkofDeathMarkofD eathMarkofDeath :cheer: :w00t: Nope, no Mark of Death. Theres still 13 Houses, cos of Thuranni and Phiarlan splitting. I hope theres stuff on Aberrant Marks/War of the Mark, cos thats what my campaign is about. Dragonlover |
| Ryuu_Tenshi03-19-06, 10:53 AM | 23 posts and no mention yet of House Lyrandar, the greatest of them all? For shame... Airships, baby - nuff said! :) I need to stop thinking of a chain-smoking, trash-talking, tea-drinking half-elf named Cid Highwind. And I -really- need to not make that character. as in, ever. |
| (Psi)SeveredHead03-19-06, 11:19 AM | I need to stop thinking of a chain-smoking, trash-talking, tea-drinking half-elf named Cid Highwind. And I -really- need to not make that character. as in, ever. When you change your mind, see the D20 NPC wiki. |

I hope theres stuff on Aberrant Marks/War of the Mark, cos thats what my campaign is about. Oh :censored: Forgot there were two houses with the Mark of Shadow (stupid elves grumble grumble grumble) :( Just for clarification though, I don't want to actually use the Mark of Death, I'm just curious to see an official version. ;) I'd also love more on the War of the Marks. |
| Edymnion03-19-06, 12:52 PM | I don't want to actually use the Mark of Death, I'm just curious to see an official version. ;)There is no official version, and hopefully there never will be. |
| kidman03-19-06, 01:13 PM | yea i agree it should remain a mystery and a thing of the past because if they did make it all of the "unknown survivors with the mark" would start showing up |
| (Psi)SeveredHead03-19-06, 10:07 PM | If you wanted to use the Mark of Death in your campaign, it would be so easy to design. Just look at the existing dragonmarks. Now, it would probably not be identical to the MoD used in some other DM's campaign, but is that really a bad thing? |
| Khaine03-20-06, 07:05 AM | There is no official version, and hopefully there never will be. I know, but I have this curiousity problem ya see ;) I just think it would be interesting to see a "cannon" version. |
| Khaine03-20-06, 07:09 AM | because if they did make it all of the "unknown survivors with the mark" would start showing up From the frequency that homebrew MoDs pop up on these boards, that seems to be all but inevitable outside of the official material. :( As for in the official material, I like to have faith that Keith and the other designers could reveal and official version of the MoD and still resist the temptation to use it. |
| Rechan03-20-06, 12:09 PM | Keith has made it a point to not reveal anything like the cause of the Mourning, the entirety of Xen'Drik, specific details on the Prophecy, the Mark of Death, and other such mysteries. To make an official MoD would undermine the setting, IMO. |
| mhacdebhandia03-21-06, 01:19 PM | I know, but I have this curiousity problem ya see ;) I just think it would be interesting to see a "cannon" version. "Canon" is the word you're thinking of - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon explains its various meanings. |
| Hellcow03-21-06, 01:55 PM | Howdy! Still bogged down with work, but I wanted to pop in to say - within the limits of NDAs and such - that there is more material in the book than JUST the thirteen houses, and some of you may get what you've asked for. However, unless there's a dramatic change during editing/development, don't expect to see official stats on the Mark of Death! |
| Joni-san03-21-06, 03:08 PM | Excellent! *Guitar riff* Hopefully this will be a flunchy book, with Captain Crunch and Field Marshal Fluff allied together :P. |

| Rechan03-21-06, 04:59 PM | Are you allowed to tell us which houses you're covering? I know Keith has mentioned he's worked on Ghallanda. I don't know what others, but I recall that from a previous discussion. |
| Splendide03-21-06, 05:10 PM | Hahaha, wheee! Given what Keith's said about Ghallanda in the past, that section will kick arse. :D |
| mhacdebhandia03-22-06, 03:27 PM | I'm figuring that there will be a lot more about the aberrant marks and the War of the Mark in this sourcebook too. :) |
| Joni-san03-22-06, 03:41 PM | Keith was working on Ghallanda, Medani and House Sivis the last time I read anything about the book. Not so sure about the last one though... Any help Oh Infernal One? |
| Rechan03-22-06, 04:09 PM | Keith's working on Medani? YEEHAW! :D |
| The Fireballed Mage03-22-06, 09:35 PM | Actually, when Keith was talking to me the last time this thread about the sourcebook cropped up, he identified that he had worked on Ghallanda and Tharashk. No mention of Medani. |

| Khaine03-23-06, 04:59 AM | "Canon" is the word you're thinking of - Call it a spelling issue  I think it's safe to say everyone knew what I meant. |
| Khaine03-23-06, 05:02 AM | However, unless there's a dramatic change during editing/development, don't expect to see official stats on the Mark of Death! Oh well, I guess I can live with that ;) |
| realdm03-23-06, 09:03 AM | Hey wizards next time release it in 2009, and carry on putting on the shelves very interesting thing such as voyage of the golden dragon.. I guess that thanks to your perfect timing we all will have to change things in our campaigns all over again... maybe next time ,release it a bit earlier the useful stuff, and leave the made to earn money books (adventures, magic of eberron..) at the end.. thanks |
| mhacdebhandia03-24-06, 05:42 PM | Call it a spelling issue  I think it's safe to say everyone knew what I meant. Hey, calm down. I was trying to be helpful, since you'd put it in quotes as if you weren't sure you'd spelled it correctly. | Dragonlover03-26-06, 02:35 PM | I think he's attempting to come across as sarcastic and say that this should have been one of the first books out for the setting. The fact that if it had been a rush job it would have been dire seems to have completely passed him by. Dragonlover |
| The Necromancer King03-26-06, 05:09 PM | If "Dragonmark" had come out early, it would be just like Five Nations: a shoddy product full of holes. And I think the Dragonmarked houses are a touch too important for that kind of ill-treatment. My personal favorite House is Lyrandar, but only as I presently understand them. I'm going to try and reserve judgement for the time being and see how the Dragonmark book adds to and evolves all of the Houses before making a final decision. It's nice to see freelancers for both White Wolf and Guardians of Order attached to the project. Most of White Wolf's stuff relies on utilizing system to create evocative mood, while Guardians helps players get the absolute most out of a generic system. Together, and with Keith to guide the way, I think they'll be able to pull off something extraordianary. I'm hoping for a political scheme reminiscent to the Court of Night Blooming Flowers from Jacqueline Carey's "Kushiel's Legacy," which is, strangely, what I think of every time I think of the Dragonmarked Houses. I think that would be a bit high-brow for the normal D&D project (even Eberron) and smacks more of a White Wolf product... But with someone with WW experience on the project, one can hope. |
| realdm03-27-06, 09:58 AM | the fact that we have been getting mediocre supplements such as MOE, 5N and ROE seems to have completely passed by dragonlover. |
| Khaine03-27-06, 02:43 PM | Hey, calm down. I was trying to be helpful, since you'd put it in quotes as if you weren't sure you'd spelled it correctly. OK, no prob then ;) The reason I put it in quotes was because I dislike using the term in a RPG reference, except when refering to Star Wars and it's game translation of course. |
| Dragonlover03-28-06, 02:57 AM | the fact that we have been getting mediocre supplements such as MOE, 5N and ROE seems to have completely passed by dragonlover. Actually, I felt it unnecessary to point that out, partially due to the context and partially due to the fact that I didn't feel ROE was mediocre. In fact, I enjoyed it immensely apart from that stuipid changeling stereotyping that they did. Dragonlover |
| mhacdebhandia03-28-06, 03:53 AM | the fact that we have been getting mediocre supplements such as MOE, 5N and ROE seems to have completely passed by dragonlover. Edymnion aside, all of those books are very enjoyable and useful. I mean, people seem to have a Platonic ideal of the roleplaying game supplement which is error free, morphs its content to satisfy all readers, is perfectly balanced against everything that has ever or will ever be produced by the company or anyone else . . . but the reality is that roleplaying books are produced by people. People aren't perfect, the right person to write a book might not have the resources to become an expert on setting canon prior to the writing of the sourcebook, policies and design philosophies change. People need to accept that plonking down $30 does not entitle you to perfection, it entitles you to good and useful work. All of the Eberron products to date are that, to varying degrees for different DMs and players. |
| Splendide03-28-06, 07:56 AM | the right person to write a book might not have the resources to become an expert on setting canon prior to the writing of the sourcebookThen they are not the right person to write a book. |
| realdm03-28-06, 10:46 AM | a well made sourcebook doesnt take 2 years to be made (e.g ; sharn) i just expressed my frustration, i think that the essential topics should be covered before the others, and the dragonmarked are far more essential than the explorer handbook or MOE. If you dont agree good for you, we will all carry on buying all the manuals anyway |
| mhacdebhandia03-28-06, 05:53 PM | Then they are not the right person to write a book. That's simply not true. Who would you rather have writing Faiths of Eberron - an expert on Eberron canon who knows little about religion or someone who has great and believable ideas about Eberron's religions but is not an expert on Eberron canon? I know which writer I'd rather hire if I couldn't find someone who was both. My point is this: if there's anything in any game book which strikes you as wrong or ill-conceived, change it! It seems to me that too many D&D players, especially on these fora, complain about these issues and overlook their complete power to fix the problems they have. Other games, like Vampire: the Requiem or Werewolf: the Forsaken, explicitly assume that Storytellers and players will change or ignore what they don't like. Many of those games' supplements contain elements which are entirely optional - the only canon for the game line is what's contained in the core books, and vampire bloodlines or spirit hosts from books like Bloodlines: the Hidden or Predators simply don't appear again - they're options which the game doesn't assume everyone will use. Hell, the last book I bought for Vampire: the Requiem was the Requiem Storyteller's Guide, an entire supplement devoted to ideas for changing the assumptions and rules of the game to suit particular stories! If more of us looked at the stuff we didn't like in Races of Eberron or the Player's Guide to Eberron in that way, there'd be fewer of us whining about it to each other over and over again. |
| Splendide03-28-06, 06:46 PM | That's simply not true. I know which writer I'd rather hire if I couldn't find someone who was both.It might be an objective question if you balanced the two. If the first guy knows as much about religion as the second guy knew about Eberron, then the first guy every time. If I wanted a book on generic religion, I'd go play GURPS. I am buying an Eberron product because it is about Eberron. That must be the primary concern. Other games, like Vampire: the Requiem or Werewolf: the Forsaken, explicitly assume that Storytellers and players will change or ignore what they don't like.Other games like V:tR or W:tF require that their writers be intimately familiar with the setting. |
| mhacdebhandia03-28-06, 08:27 PM | Other games like V:tR or W:tF require that their writers be intimately familiar with the setting. That doesn't change anything about what I was saying in that part of my post. Yes, it would be great if everyone who wrote for Eberron was an expert on Eberron canon, but players and DMs need to realise that not everything printed will, can, or should suit them. |
| Splendide03-28-06, 09:14 PM | On the contrary, knowing the canon is a very important part of why people don't go off at WW for having the "do what you want" attitude. They have already supplied good stuff that fits the canon. The reason why the attitude is often different towards Eberron sourcebooks is because they don't stick much to canon and they dump in a whole bunch of new stuff, so the "do what you want" attitude comes across as "fix it yourself". Our modifications end up being us doing the hard work trying to make it fit the canon, instead of deciding how we want to go off it. Does Eberron have a line manager, responsible for overseeing the theme and content for all Eberron books? Last I heard, WW did this for each line. |
| ryanroyce03-28-06, 11:14 PM | House Sivis, *****es. Despite having some of the least powerful dragonmarks, they control the flow of information, and furthermore they are gnomes. Mmm, intruige. Tastey, tastey intruige. Actually, I am playing an artificer with the Least Sivis Mark. Arcane Mark 2/day, no less. Of course, that's because he's the senior undersecretary of the Notary Guild's Bureau of Identification, Stormreach Branch (gnomes love bureaucracy :)). His job, when not adventuring, is to identify magic items brought to his shop and issue a certificate of authenticity guaranteeing the item's actual magical properties (i.e., he places identical arcane marks on the certificate and the item). After all, just because you have properly identified that ring of protection +1 doesn't mean a thing to the prospective buyer. ;) BTW, if you want to make the most of your House Sivis affiliation, consider Favored in House. When seeking important information or hard-to-get documents, just ask House Sivis! :schemes: Ryan |
| realdm03-29-06, 05:25 AM | If more of us looked at the stuff we didn't like in Races of Eberron or the Player's Guide to Eberron in that way, there'd be fewer of us whining about it to each other over and over again. As a consumer I always want perfection. Stop talking like if those books were wrote by your deskmate at high school. this is something from a major corporation such as Hasbro. I will use and enjoy all of the books that I buy, but I will carry on complaining about those I think are not done perfectly, because we have the right and the necessity to do so, in order for the people who produce this to keep on improving. It's also because of people like you that we keep on having mistakes, inaccuracies and inconsistencies. Other games, like Vampire: the Requiem or Werewolf: the Forsaken, explicitly assume that Storytellers and players will change or ignore what they don't like. Many of those games' supplements contain elements which are entirely optional - the only canon for the game line is what's contained in the core books, and vampire bloodlines or spirit hosts from books like Bloodlines: the Hidden or Predators simply don't appear again - they're options which the game doesn't assume everyone will use. that is because white wolf games are story telling games with few rules and dnd is an rpg with table game rules. |
| mhacdebhandia03-29-06, 06:00 PM | that is because white wolf games are story telling games with few rules and dnd is an rpg with table game rules. There are actually very few opportunities in the whole world for you to be more wrong than you are here. |
| realdm03-30-06, 04:59 AM | Then maybe you played both of them without reading the corebooks, like many kids do when they start.. or maybe you just had the necessity to write something at all costs and thats the first thing which came into your mind. |
| Dragonlover03-30-06, 06:58 AM | Speaking as someone who has played both D&D and Mage: The Ascencion, I have to agree with mhacdebhandia. They are both story-telling games, they are both RPG's. White Wolf games have a *lot* of rules, and there is a lot of stuff that has to be done on the fly (especially in Mage, where if you're powerful enough you can do *anything*). I digress. In order to make this vaguely on topic, do we have a release date for the book? I'm sure it's cropped up somewhere, but I can't remember. Dragonlover |
| realdm03-30-06, 07:42 AM | run a combat in Vampire and run a combat in dnd. youll see that one is based on strict rules and the other has guidelines and dice rolls to explain how the situation would go. same things for spells and powers (those that allow your mage to do everything |
| Dragonlover03-30-06, 07:53 AM | Ok, lets compare: D20 system: To make an attack, you roll a D20, add on whatever modifiers you have, and if it beats the AC then you hit. Then you roll damage WW: To make an attack, you roll whatever stats would be most appropriate, but we'll say Strength and Melee, and if it beats whatever they roll to dodge then you hit. Then you roll damage. Hmm, seems the same to me. However, I believe the original reason WW was brought up was due to the fact that they require their writers to be familiar with the setting, and somebody said this should be the case for Eberron. I wholeheartedly agree with this, just look at the uproar over the half-elf dragonmark blooper from PGtE. Somebody familiar with the setting wouldn't have written that. Dragonlover |

| realdm03-30-06, 09:12 AM | dear dragonlover, the rules are the same because they are both role playing games. the difference is how open the rules are. as i said, open both books and read for example the description of a power, or a spell, you ll find that ww description is very open, very "descriptive". WW make tools to tell a story, not rules to decide completely if you win or loose. then, if you wish to be right at all costs, ok, youre right.. since you played both dnd and mage !!! I give up with this discussion. As they say here , November 7, we'll all be enjoying dragonmarked house |
| Drath'ri03-30-06, 09:47 PM | I'm hoping there is info on the War of the Mark, and maybe the destruction of House Vol. For whatever reason, I really like "House" Tarkanan. Defiantly agree, House Tarkanan FTW. |
