An earlier discussion about the verious half-whatever templates applying to WF sort of morphed with a conversation I was having with a friend about the recently announced Hellboy animated project and ignited my imagination.

Instead of being a demon summoned to open the gates of hell, what if Eberron's HB were a half-fiend Warforged that was *built* to open the gates to Xoriat with his stone Battlefist? Rasputin could have summoned a demon to possess an ancient creation forge found in the ruins of Xen'drik. The possessed forge churns out one dazed and confused half-fiend Warforged, created with a Battlefist permanently attached ot his arm, before the whole thing collapses "killing" rasputin and disabling the Hellforged.

Years alter he's recovered by an expedition from Khorviare. Etc, etc.

Abe could be a Sahuagin telepath, Liz could be a Kalashtar Pyrokeneticist, Broom could be a wise old Gatekeeper (perhaps of a more modern, less fanatical subsect).

Rasputin would be a good Wizard/Alienist, Kroenen could be a renegade mastermaker

In the words of Young Frankenstein: "It...could...WORK!!"

I think that sounds great and it does convert well. I always did like a good anti-hero. Since Xoriat and the Far realm are basically the same it would be cool.I would fit well starting in Breland and finishing in karnath

Kroenen's original incarnation is more master makery and less undead assasin.

Also Abe had no psychic talent whatsoever, Hellboy is a publicly recognized figure (Was on the cover of Time when the UN declared him an honerary human being) and Broom's name is spelled Bruttenholm.

Other than niggling little irritations the movie was a LOT of fun and captured large chunks of atmosphere and I think that a particularly insane Merrix could slide into a Rasputin analog fairly well with some tweaking. They don't have to match up exactly to make for good conversions. It would be an elseworlds thing ANYway, might as well shuffle things around.

More later. I like GK's stuff up there. Yes, even the saughin telepath. ;) Hey, it would be fun.

Dust stuffed spy is a clockwork-styled construct, not an undead.

Abe would not be a telepath. He would be a seer. Object Reading and Sensitivity to Psychic Impressions were definately two powers he used.

Actually he did, right as Myers (spl?) came into Prof. Brooms library for the first time, he talked about his scar on his chin and the complex he had about it. A telepath would work well, but only focusing on certain powers, he did have a limited arsenal.

I'm liking this idea, and I'm even liking it more for d20 Modern... hmmmm... would the "Hellforged" also be red? lol

(Don't know if I'd make him off the normal half-fiend template... maybe work something out to make him more playable... lol)

hmmm... the battlefist could be worked into a "Hellforged" template to slap onto the base 'forged, as could some aspects from half-fiend, strength bonuses, etc, add 5 fire resistance, and maybe some good DR... hmmm...

(grrr... and I'm home without my books grrr grrr!!! )

Bear in mind, I'm a hellboy novice (though I have recently ordered the first HB trade paperback so I can get into the real hellboy) and not highly versed in psionics, so I threw "telepath" in because of the scene in the movie where he read myers mind, but anyhow, make him what you want.

I dind;t think of the dust stuffed template, because I forgot it existed. However, I think Master Maker would fit as well. After all, he basically turned himself into a machine becuase he was obsessed with the process. Fits pretty well if you think about it.

Another movie/comic book I'd like to do in Eberron would be Constantine..... that would rule...

I'm not sure how well that would work with the way gods and the afterlife works in Eberron and the presence of resurrection spells.

The whole driving force of Constantine is that hels dying and he can't get into heaven and Luciver's got a special level of hell just for him, meanwhile God and the Devel are playing a cosmic game of Risk for the souls of humanity and Constantine has to deal with the agents on both sides.

In eberron, there isn;t much of a heaven or hell, the gods don;t give two shakes about humanity, etc.

But I suppose you could make him an Exorcist of the Silver Flame who's been told he won;t be able to join with the Flame when he dies or something.

Good man. There is some seriously quality stuff in those books. It may be more in theme to have the Hand be the key to unlock Khyber itself! The Ogdru Jahad is refered to as "The Dragon" after all. Not only unleashing and having dominion over all of Khyber's children, but the ancient wyrm itself being free of Eberron's confinement, reworking the world into another age of demons! Or perhaps, a new paradise without the taint of the young races.

The Hellboy RPG is also a good supplement. Even if you don't like GURPS it is a fine resource and guide to the world and its characters.

Again, while Constantine was a fun movie, the comic (Hellblazer) makes for a better game. I haven't read much of it, but Constantine... well, I won't give it away here, but he is MUCH more of a conniving and cunning jerk and his plan has NOTHING to do with getting into heaven. You probably couldn't smoke there anyway. He is MUCH more of an anti hero than Hellboy is. Heck, they guy is barely a hero at all, while Hellboy has nothing but hero in him.

I just like the bad ass exorcist part, because that's one of the things that makes him cool... that and his confidence while doing it.

(maybe replace heaven/hell with evil organizations, a human who exorcises people and fights Quori and demon possession, dunno how his character would be done... meh)

And that too... :P

Also! Anyone thinking of making the "Hellforged" template for fun? I am! lol

It would be a very... very surly sort of Mindhunter I think. Perhaps even a start of a new line that was recently born from a recently released quori rebel. A bitter, cynical quori rebel. Not one who has captured a quori, but one that has freed a kalashtar spirit and is using the Mindhunter PrC to represent the growing bond between them. All his children will be kalashtar of the freed line. Hmmm.. interesting.

...also an Eberron version of The Spear of Destiny? lol :)

Roger would certainly be interesting, as he'd actually be a sentient humanoid homunculus (can we say warforged?)

And Liz wouldn't be a kineticist. She'd be a Pyrokineticist (PrC).

Cheers,

I'm also a constantine novice, but I'll have to wait a bit before I start ordering trades for that. (But from what I heard it does sound good) So, again, my post was based on knowledge of the movie.
Still, without the whole roman catholic heaven/hell setup and rules it does seem like a hard conversion. There's just too many sides and too many shades of gray in eberron. There's no two forces dueling for supremacy.

Anyhow, back to Hellboy
Unlocking Khyber itself would be interesting. I picked Xoriat because in the movie at least, the tentacles from space thing seemed pretty Far Realm to me so I went with Xoriat. Hell, it could even be a Quorri plit to unleash the realm of nightmares, or some foul plan by the Lords of Dust. Not like Eberron is snort on evils ;-)

And SvDM, I believe I said pyrokeneticist in the original post.

As far as a Hellforged Template goes, be my guest.
I would just take the half-fiend, drop the wings and add a free, nonremovble Battlefist. Maybe boost the thing's damage to 1d10 if you want.
