| Rotipher09-11-05, 07:00 PM | Here's a couple of questions on prices in Eberron, which I'm posting here because the more-specialized boards don't seem to include an equipment section: 1) What's the standard off-the-newsrack price for a copy of the Korrenberg Chronicle? I'm sure it must be somewhere in the products and is very low, I just don't recall seeing it. Also, what is this paper's release schedule: daily, weekly, as "breaking news" demands, or what? 2) Before it was declared illegal to either produce or sell them, how much did a typical warforged cost to make? To buy? How would their market value change with battlefield experience (i.e. levels gained)? This is something that may be of importance to a coming adventure's backstory IMC, as well as an issue that's been puzzling me in general. |
| Straylight09-11-05, 09:23 PM | The ECS mentions that the Chronicle is not available "off the shelf" and is rather a subscription-only newsletter. That said, I would imagine them being about a silver piece each, or maybe less. The Chronicle is published weekly and distributed across the Five Nations and greater Khorvaire by House Orien. The Korranberg Chronicle is not the only newspaper in the game, simply the most well-known. It is the largest and most widespread newspaper in the Five Nations, but many other places have their own local newsletter such as the Sharn Inquisitive. As for the Warforged questions, that's something that you or your DM are going to have to work out. The question has come up before on these boards, so perhaps someone else will be able to offer a link, since our search function is still MIA. |

[/QUOTE] Im sure i've read 3cp somewhere - i'll go search through my stuff. |
| Fordel09-12-05, 01:19 AM | My understanding of the chronochile is its expensive enough so that not every commner gets an issue, but common enough so that every commener can get a few days old copy easily enough to read. |
| Save-vs-DM09-12-05, 02:23 AM | It's 3cp an issue. If you look at http://www.kchronicle.com/ you'll notice 3cp issue in the top right hand corner of the issue. And if you can't trust that, what can you trust ;P I think it's been on the AKB threads. I do know that I got the information from a somewhat reliable source. Cheers, Save vs DM |
| Vharuck09-12-05, 10:45 AM | As said before, the ECS notes that you can't usually buy single issues (though they are available at lightning rail stations, IIRC), but instead subscribe to the KC or SI. It then says that even though subscriptions are beyond the realm of the commoners, even they read few-days-old issues. How much do these cost? Nothing. They pull them from the garbage or pick them up off the street. |
| cmanos09-12-05, 11:23 AM | Hmm, OK so you can't buy a single issue but you can buy a subscription. That's just asking for some entrepreneur to order 100 subscriptions and start a newsstand. |
| nyysjan09-12-05, 11:26 AM | but then the price would go up and those interested in, and able to afford, reading the newspaper would just get a subscribtion. |
| Amaril09-12-05, 02:00 PM | But then the price would go up and those interested in, and able to afford, reading the newspaper would just get a subscribtion. not neccessarily. an entrepeneur would know to negotiate a discount below cover price for ordering such a large quantity. He or she would then be able to afford to sell each issue for cover price and turn a profit while acting as a sort of distributor/retailer. Additionally, the printer wouldn't need to worry about the cost of distribution to that many individuals. |
| Edymnion09-12-05, 03:57 PM | but then the price would go up and those interested in, and able to afford, reading the newspaper would just get a subscribtion. Not really. Real world subscriptions are for less than cover price, but people still buy large amounts of the Wallstreet Journal and the New York Times at news stands, and buy newspapers on street corners. If you only pick one up every once in a while to read, the higher newstand price is still cheaper than the full subscription price. Like I don't subscribe to Dragon Magazine (because I think that, overall, it sucks), but I'll still pick up single issues from time to time because of an article or template or whatever that I want. |
