| Rauol_Duke07-29-04, 09:19 AM | Slated for release in April 2005, Races of Eberron by Jesse Decker, Matthew Sernett, Keith Baker, Gwendolyn F.M. Kestrel. Besides the obvious, what do you think this book will encompass? Will we see Changling racial feats? More Warforged components? What would you like to see in this book? |
| ieattrollsforbreakfast07-29-04, 09:24 AM | I am hoping for: More artwork showing males and females of each race in each culture. More content for changelings, including racial feats and a PrC. More warforged components. Details of different cultures, with as much content on the classic races as the new ones. No subraces. Racial write ups for some of the other common races suited for Eberron, such as the goblinoids. Info on the monstrous races as well as the common races, such as dragons or rakshasas. |

Besides the obvious, what do you think this book will encompass? Will we see Changling racial feats? More Warforged components? What would you like to see in this book? The ECSB is pretty low on crunch for the new races, so I'd like to see new Warforged componants, PrC's for the various new races, and more racial feats. It probably couldn't hurt to toss in a few Eberron-specific weapons and special gear as well. I'd also like to see quite a bit of fluff about the various cultures on Eberron to help me flesh out some of the standard races, especially the Elves. Eberron Elves do not seem to act like FR Elves. Their ancestor worship is pretty interesting. Couldn't hurt to retinker the Drow for Eberron play as well since their weapon selection is different from the Drow of other settings. |
| Rauol_Duke07-29-04, 09:31 AM | So, do you think that Races of Eberron will be like Races of Faerun at least from a layout standpoint? |
| sh007-29-04, 09:42 AM | I think that would be a safe assumption. If its not broke..... Originally posted by Rauol_Duke So, do you think that Races of Eberron will be like Races of Faerun at least from a layout standpoint? |
| Salla07-29-04, 04:53 PM | I'd like to see more Warforged stuff ... feats or tweaks ('subraces', if you prefer) to represent different types of construction; not just materials, but shapes. Ones with claws instead of a slam, for instance, or quadrupedal warforged beast-shapes (Warwolves?), options for Large or Small Warforged, 'armorless' Warforged (without the armor bonus, so wizards/sorcerers/monks can operate at full efficiency since they won't be considered to be wearing light armor), and so forth. And definitely more Components. (pauses to snicker at sh0 ... saying something pertaining to Faerun isn't broke. ;) ) |
| Kesh07-29-04, 07:48 PM | I expect we'll see a short section on the standard PHB races, plus more extensive information on the Eberron specific ones. Likely a section on gobliniods and giants as well, given their history on Eberron. And hopefully, some information on fitting the XPH races into Sarlona/Khorvaire. |
| Remnant07-29-04, 08:17 PM | Changeling feats, a PrC of some sort More info on drow, Xen'drik giants A few more varieties of Quori While I like the warforged a great deal, I also worry Eberron will become less Eberron, and more "That setting with the warforged" |
| sh007-29-04, 11:10 PM | doh! You got me. I'll think next time before I comment. I'm glad to say I haven't even picked up my FRCS since I bought the ECS. :) Originally posted by Salla (pauses to snicker at sh0 ... saying something pertaining to Faerun isn't broke. ;) ) |
| Nefrast07-30-04, 06:20 AM | Yes, it will probably be very similar to Races of Faerûn (which I like especially for the more fluffy stuff), i.e. a mix of new races and subraces, feats, prestige classes, items, spells, and templates. |
| Save_vs_DM07-30-04, 07:03 AM | Eberron Racial Paragons is top of my list. I'd also like to see a few more cultural feats, and some information on playing monsterous player races. New warforged would be interesting. I'd love to see some more information on changelings and shifters. I also agree on more artwork (I'd actually pay good money for a book of just artwork of races and cities...it'd be SOOO useful for players and DMs). Cheers, Save-vs-DM |
| xnrdcorex07-30-04, 07:22 AM | more on lizard men. templates for undying elves. template for sentient undead too? oh giants as characters! and maybe allot more dragon mark stuff? |
| deganawida07-30-04, 06:56 PM | I'm hoping to see that unique shifter culture (neither packs in the wilds or human-like farmers) that Keith mentioned exist in his thread. |
| crazysamaritan07-30-04, 11:24 PM | More shifter feats! More types of lycanthropes. Rules on chaglings imitating specific parts of a creature, not a specific creature (a wolvish shifter, or an adamantine warforged) More on racial predjudices. (elves hate goblins for forcing them off of the origional Valenor) Racial communities (talenta halflings, shadow marsh orcs, shifter E. Reaches) mmm, druid/ranger/barbarian community.... Furntog... mmm. anyone got a wipe? |
| Vapor IX07-31-04, 12:14 AM | 1) Details about the differences between the different sub-cultures in each player race. How are Aerenal elves and Valenar elves diferrent from each other and the standard PHB elves? Should they both still get racial proficiency with swords and bows? How do dwarves from the Mror Holds feel about giants? Do they get bonuses against the giants? And so on. Preferably, there should be a whole section about the player races, divided by race and then by sub-cultures. 2) More details about the Eberron specific races. How they think, act, feel, culture, etc. There could be a whole chapter devoted to Warforged: how they were created, different models, construction, repair, upgrades, etc. 3) More mechanics. More racial prestige classes. Paragon classes. More shifter and warforged feats. More weapons, armor, items. Details on how to update older material to fit into Eberron. Does the Halfling Outrider need to be tweaked to fit into the Talenta plains? 4) Monsters have feelings too. See number one, but for the monsters. Bring Savage Species, Draconomicon, Fiend Folio, or whatever else that isn't 3.5 complaint up to 3.5, with an Eberron twist. |
| Red_Decker07-31-04, 01:07 PM | Probably like Races of Faerun with more fluff due to lack of Sub Races. I'd like a lot more about cultures. http://www.geocities.com/customsmiliesbyswordmaster/inthered.txt |

| Kobold Avenger08-04-04, 02:43 PM | I'm hoping it has information on Hobgoblins, Goblins, Orcs, Kobolds, the Q'barran Lizardfolk and the XPH races. |

Takasi including changelings, the kalashtar, shifters, and the warforged...elves, dwarves, halflings, gnomes, half-elves, half-orcs, and drow. Sorry, from what Takasi quote from WotC non of the races you listed seem to be covered. Sad really, i like goblinoids. :( |

I agree with Keith Baker on the point of no subraces, or at least not giving them anything different beyond the normal races, because genetics remain genetics. What I really would like to see is a lot of material to flesh out the races as they are in Eberron. I don't want material from other books, but I in fact want this one to be very specific to Eberron, and it would be very neat if this could really flesh out Eberron beyond what it already is, and really get into the depth of the cultures here. Not to mention that some new mechanics would be very nice in giving some more individuality and heroic touch to a lot of the characters. :) |
| Kashiko08-06-04, 05:45 PM | I hope they have lots of detail. I love info. Just full out info and detail about each race, male and female, artwork of each type, etc. Also, it would be nice to have info and art for what each race wears. For example, since each race has it's main locations that it's from, it would be nice to have artwork and info showcasing what males and females would wear, as traditional clothing for their region, etc. It would help to make better desriptions for NPC's in adventures, etc. It would also help my players think of what their character looks like. In this book or maybe in another(a book about each orginization), maybe they could go into traditional clothing for each Dragonmarked House, church, etc. so as to better describe what a member of that orginization looks like, and how you would be able to tell they are from that orginization specifically. |
| Ehlonnia08-06-04, 10:51 PM | The Bad: Keith Baker's name is third on an unalphabetized list of authors, likely meaning that his influence wasn't the greatest/most powerful in the design and implementation of the book. G.F.M. Kestrel's name is on the book. I've never, ever been even remotely okay with the D&D books she has done. The Good: It appears to be covering non-Khorvairian races as well, which is a plus. We'll likely see more information about the shadow elves, the barbarians of Argonessen, the elusive drow of Xen'drik, and with the inclusion of the Kalashtar there will probably be more info about the Inspired as well. Prestige Classes! IMO, the PrCs in the ECSB weren't all that stellar, even if they have amazing storyline uses. Also, there weren't that many (6, iirc). G.F.M. Kestrel's name is on the book. This means, in all likelihood, that she won't be the editor of this one. We won't end up with a heap of unfinished work like we did with Complete Divine. This pleases me. Overall, I'm excited. The races were one of many areas that got short shrift in the ECSB. I'm happy to see its one of the first things they're going to elaborate on! |
