Tuesday night, I ran my first session of Eberron. It looks like it's going to run in two parts. This past week was the last-minute character tweaking, the setup in the inn called The Calm Before the Storm, and a good bit of combat-light action to give everyone some (woefully misleading) idea what everyone else is like.

Lemme introduce the party:
Soapy: A roguish type who's missing something obvious: most of his skin. Some people recognize them as chemical burns. Those people who know him don't ask about that little lack-of-skin condition of his, or at least that's what he tells people who ask.
Snarg: A half-orc who dresses well, doesn't really show his heritage that strongly in his features, and was rather reserved for some reason. No hints at his class were given.
Tirren: A ranger of obvious Cyran descent who came in, saw someone notice him, and at some convenient moment when people were distracted, went over and either threatened or negotiated with the guy. Most likely a little of both.
Pakmelark: He comes off as "just this guy." He seems well-traveled... or at least, he doesn't seem to know the area that well. No class was obvious.
And a hobgoblin: He spent most of the night downing large portions of meat and
water. He never even gave his name or talked much, and nobody really managed to engage him.

Suffice it to say, though, that there's only one of them not hiding a big secret, and no, the hobgoblin's sitting on a doozy. The half-orc is the one not hiding anything spectacular, and really that's only because he doesn't know what the spectacular thing is yet.

If people want to hear more about them, I can keep posting, but I have a poor history with keeping threads going (except in the 1001 Mournland Horrors thread, and that's more or less self-sustaining). It's not that I stop posting; other people just stop responding.

When was the last time your players saw The Usual Suspects?

When was the last time your players saw The Usual Suspects?I haven't, and if any of them have I think it's been a while.

I drew up two of those characters myself (Snarg and Tirren). The other three (Soapy, Pakmelark, and the hobgoblin) were, to the best of my knowledge, generated separately. Any resemblance to other fictional characters should be purely coincidental.

Now you have me concerned... why do you ask?

(I would also like to point out that three of the characters are trending strongly good, and one should turn out to be a decent life-respecting sort of neutral. There's only one wild-card in the bunch... and no, it's not the hobgoblin.)

No worries, they just sounded like a bunch of criminal inspired characters. Usual Suspects is a pretty good template for 'Criminals meet up, form party, run missions' is why I asked.

The party is pretty subterfuge heavy, but criminal-light.

And as for their forming a group, they'll have reason to do just that next session. I'll post about it then because at least one of the group has come to these forums. (fora?)
