drss 06-12-04, 12:32 AM	I am wondering if planetouched races like tiefling and the genasi are included into the EB setting (ie. we will be able to see them in games and novels)? Or are they one of those "there are not official places for them, but you can easily fit them into the setting somewhere" things?

Saurenda 06-12-04, 02:37 AM	I would venture so far as to say that they would choose one of the surrounding planes as home, as a planetouched human bloodline might draw a bit of attention of the silver flame and such. Kieth mentioned a fairy court on one of the planes complete with nobles and such. To me this seems like a good place for any extradimensional or half breed of such. I can't really see using a planetouched or kensai myself. I want personally to get back to roots with core classes. None of this extra dimensional stuff coming into messing things up. For the moment things are quite and silent. As far as I can tell no mid level wizards are takign people's souls and just handing them out like candy for power, not yet at least.

Banshee 06-12-04, 10:33 AM	Keep in mind that Eberron is supposed to be a setting where everything in D&D fits, and has a logical place. Planetouched are there somewhere. I guess they're just not discussed in the main book... Banshee
Tainted One 06-12-04, 09:21 PM	I like the planetouched and the other -touched races, but I think it may be a bit harder to work them into Eberron, due to the nature of the planes and the fact that it seems outsiders and other planar races don't travel to the material planes much. You could, however, say that the -touched bloodlines are in the human genetic code left over from when the planes were last coterminous and it shows up randomly, like a mutation. Or perhaps childern are sometimes born gifted randomly whenever the planes are coterminous.
Perun 06-13-04, 02:33 AM	IIRC, aren't there those planar "seepage zones" (like the one the city of Sharn is built in)? Planetouched could be extremely rare children born in those, for example there could be an air genasi child born every once in a while in Sharn.

And that gives me an idea A very pious pilgrim travels to *inesert-location-of-Silver-Flame-here* because she has problems with fertility. When she and her husband get to see/meet/whatever the Silver Flame they feel a bit different. After a night in the tavern and nine months later a special child has born... (err... that last part didn't come out right but you know what I mean). This child amazes his peers and after a few years he joins a Knightly order with the blessing of his parents. Eh. Not the best story, but the best I could whip up on such a short notice.

Well, even if the planes are remote, there are still summoning spells.......you could have your deranged wizard who summons a fiend and either mates with it, or has someone else mate with it to produce a half-fiend minion, etc. And from there, eventually you'd get tieflings... Kolakuba 06-17-04, 09:54 AM	I actually like the idea of the essence of a plane seeping into areas of the prime material prale when the planes are coterminous, creating humans(or elves, halflings etc etc) with a little twist. These few have been infused with the very essence of the plane that touches the prime material, thereby creating the plane-touched.

There's plenty of stuff in the Book of Exalted Deeds, the Manual of the Planes, and the sourcebooks for other campaign settings that would be hard to squeeze into Eberron. Eberron is all about planar incursions and even permanent connections between planes. Really, you could vary the backstories quite a bit, but Thelanis (the Faerie Court) is just a fairy ring away from making your daughter's next baby a little half-fairy. I'd keep planetouched rare, rather than something that happens consistently and can be easily repeated (like a human and elf giving birth to a half-elf), but there's definitely a place for them.

Euangelion 06-18-04, 02:21 AM	Personally, I find the concept that an outsider got stranded on the Prime Material Plane when its plane was coterminous with it (and made omlettes out of cracked eggs as it were) requires less suspencion of disbelief to accept (and more consistent with MM description of planetouched). Without the ECS yet (the 18th is actually my birthday, so I know what I'll be getting for myself!) I can't say for sure, but I haven't heard anything yet that suggests that manifest zones affect physiology. If I'm wrong, let me know. But hey, you can do whatever you want with your own campaign, so if that's what makes sense to you, go for it. (Edited for grammar)
