I am enjoying it thus far. Helps to flesh out the the game world for me--especially the city of Sharn. I love the warforged character in the novel, and I think his character development will be good to follow. I am a little disappointed with the "Lei" character--mostly because of the things she has been described doing in combat--she seems too skilled and powerful, in relation to the other party members and assumed character levels, at times (at one time single handedly defeating a minotaur in combat using all of two spells as I recall--this failed to suspend my disbelief, heh).

Other than that, I am enjoying it though.

I am about 100 pages from the end. I have to say it really captures the feel of Eberron and more specifically Sharn. If every player in my group would read this book it would be heavensent as I think they would have a far better grasp on the world, more akin to my own.

Have you found any problems with spelling and other errors in your print copies? I have a lot of typesetting-type errors in my copy-- I wonder if I got an early printing or what.

The tale is terrific however. I wish they didn;t slate them for a year apart on publishing the next books.

I just finished the novel two days ago. This book has opened my eyes to the campaign setting. I had read the ECS before the novel but I never would have envisioned some of the stuff as was done in the novel. I know that it will tremendously improve my ability as a DM for the campaign setting. I plan on having my players read it so that they can have the same appreciation for the setting as me.

My book had a few typos in it as well. I think its to be expected with any publication of any kind. No big deal, it didnt affect the story in any way.

I will be ordering the Crimson Talisman book in the next couple of days. I cant wait to see how other people are viewing the world.

All in all, the book has only fueled my interest in the setting and encourages me to make my games better. I to wish that they next two parts were not spread so far apart on their release.

Oh, yes. I have come across several mispellings (lol, did I spell that right?).

I've read both of the novels so far and I really really like them. I'm going to try to force all the players in my games to read them, so they get a feel for what the world is like. I have a feeling that at least one of them sees it as FR or DL with sentient golems... :\

Both of the novels? I wasn't aware there were two. I have seen a print error or two but since like most people I read by word and sentance regcognition I typically don't pick them out. I am not a god of the English language, so I don't freak over editing errors.

the dreaming dark was quite good, i purchased the sharn sourcebook and after reading the novel i feel better equipped to run my upcoming sharn campaign. it really helped me to get a feel for the city. it was not just helpful as a gaming resource, but it was highly entertaining as well. for the love of syberius, daine needs to learn not to take lifts....

Editing flaws aside, I enjoyed the tale a lot. It has given me a flavourful feel of the setting in general, Sharn, and descriptive bits about the Aberrant Dragonmarks that have fueled my own imagination on the subject.

It's a must have for any Eberron enthusiast.

Hey Lujayne, I love your signature. Did you by chance get it from a Twila Paris song? I actually forget the song title now, but the chorus has that line in it. I absolutely LOVE that song:)

I loved the book. The way it described many of the actions (especially disable construct)added even more flavor to some spells/abilities.Nice character developement, cant wait to see what happens to them next.I agree after reading this I have a much better visual of how Eberron society works.

FYI...

I'm pretty sure Lei is a Monk/Artificier.

Why? If you listen to the what she says, she flat out SAYS it. She was trained by multiple masters, because her parents didn't want her defenseless.. or some such, I've read about 20 books since I finished this one, so please be understanding if I messed the quote completely.

I can't remember when it is, I believe it's at the Minotaur thing, but I really can't recall.

Lei = Monk/Artificier, though.

She always wears armor though, so that might rule that out.

Did she? The vest wasn't armor, I don't think.. it just had golden studs/rivets.

Either way, not all monks adhere to the "Wear no Armor!" rule =) (Especially if your wis is low)

I personally liked how they didn't use the names of the spells. I don't know why, but I never liked that in novels. I'd much rather have them say "I can enchant a divining rod to show us the general direction the thing is in" than "I'm gonna cast Locate Object, so... yeah."

It's obvious to me that Marked for Death wanted to play "fast and loose" with the game specific things.

For example, it seems that a paladin's laying on hands works in the Mournlands. However, the warforged artificer trying to heal itself thinks about how the healing seems less effective in the Mournlands. If he's actually a cleric, the healing shouldn't work at all. If he's an artificer, the repair damage infusion should work at full strength. At least, with what we know of the Mournlands.

Are you sure it was a minotaur?
