| Trollbasher09-22-06, 04:08 PM | Just curious if anyone is running or playing this in Eberron. I will be running 3 gestalt characters, who want heavy RP. I know I was surprised. As of now I am tweaking the first AP for them. So I am a few weeks away from starting off. So if anyone has already started or is going to I would like to know how yours is going and good luck. |
| Kid SixXx09-23-06, 12:30 AM | I haven't run anything yet, but I am setting up some preliminary stuff: For DM's Only: -I'm going to place Sassarine on the large island right across the way from Q'Barra. Q'Barra has the locale I'm looking for as far as incidentals go (ie. frontier city states, jungle full o' lizard monsters, convenient evil dragon, pirate mischief close by in the form of the Lhazaar Principalities). -I'm going to swap out the Scarlet Brotherhood presence in Greyhawk-Sassarine for the Inspired in my Eberron-Sassarine. There is an Inspired embassy in Adderport in Q'Barra, so placing one in Eberron-Sassarine kinda makes sense. -I'll probably tinker with the Sassarine myth itself given that Q'Barra doesn't really have the religious structure of the primary Five Nations. Not sure what avenue to take quite yet but I'll have to sort out the religious stratification of the city. -I'll weave some sort of House Thrashk presence in the city. I'll keep House Lyrandar out of the port business because I like the idea of rogue pirate gangs from the Lhazaar Principality (ie. The Lotus Dragons) muscling in on Sassarine's port business. I want the adventure to have a "wild frontier" kinda feel to it, so that the PC's get some sense that they are at the ground floor of the building of a new nation. That feeling may make the threats of the Savage Tide (including the Savage Tide itself) a bit more menacing than normal. -I'll swap out the barbarian-run merc guild for a House Deneith operation, but I'll keep the "reformed barbarian leader" (can't remember the name of the barb or the guild off of the top of my head). Since they're close to Q'Barra & the ocean, I'll probably give the guildmaster two cool merc lieutenants: namely a lizard man and an aquatic half-elf. I'll probably use House Deneith as the local police force and have them occasionally butt heads / cooperate with the local House Thraskh bounty hunters. -The Gnomes on Sassarine will belong to a Zilargo embassy secretly run by The Trust. They'll have the same interests in Sassarine as The Inspired & the House Thrashk prospectors: the abundance of dragonshards in the Q'Barra / Sassarine region. I think I will have a mole from The Aurum in the embassy simply because I have yet to use that organization in any of my campaigns & it will add yet another avenue of intrigue for me to utilize should things get too predictable. As for the Savage Tide itself: No clue what I'm going to do about the Abyssal elements quite yet. The feral insanity that the Savage Tide brings about sorta makes me want to make the Daelyr as my uber villains & somehow make an artifact similar to the Orb of Xoriat the culprit behind the Savage Tide. Demogorgon might simply wind up being some mega Daelkyr Lord that even the rank & file Daelkyr themselves fear, or perhaps even the lesser Lords of Dust tremble in the midsts of. Meaning that my PC's may have to make an alliance with the Lords of Dust or perhaps even the elements of the Dreaming Dark in order to foil Xoriat's plot.... and then contend with the remainging agents of the Lords or the Dreaming Dark themselves after the smoke clears... Hmmmm Too many avenues to consider so early in the game, so for the time being I'll just amuse myself focusing on the pirates! The stuff above is merely me brainstorming. Not much should change, but quite a few of the details will get altered as time goes by. |
| Antioch09-23-06, 01:32 AM | I plan to, just trying to wrap up Age of Worms first. By then there should be official ST conversion notes for free download from the Paizo website. |
| astute110-02-06, 08:13 AM | It appears that Paizo is going to put out official conversion notes for each adventure. There's a thread going on in their forums right now where they're answering a few questions about the conversion, including 1. It looks like Keith Baker is involved in working up some of the conversion elements. 2. That they're running behind getting the first one out. 3. Sasserine is located on the southernmost island of the Lhazaar Principalities, southwest of the gnome-dominated island of Lorghalen. |
| mhacdebhandia10-02-06, 11:22 AM | Yes, the island Kid SixXx is talking about is indeed the official location of Sasserine, according to James Jacobs on the Paizo Publishing forums. I'm running Savage Tide in Eberron (well, I'm 90% sure it will be in Eberron, as opposed to a setting of my own), planning to start over the summer in January or so. My fiancee is moving here from California in a few months and I'm really looking forward to starting up a regular game she can play in! When I've visited her we always made time to play a one-shot adventure with her old DM and his girlfriend, but it will be fantastic to play regularly. The delay in beginning the campaign will let me get something of a head start on the adventures - by the time we start, I should have the first four issues of Dungeon Magazine to play through, and by the time we catch up to the magazine's monthly publication playing fortnightly, some of my players will be going back to university and we'll probably slip from that two-week schedule, which will ease the problem of having to wait for each issue to come out. If it turns out to be a big deal, I'll probably actually start up an Age of Worms game as well. I'm curious to see how Keith will handle the translation of the Abyssal elements to Eberron, but as a preliminary idea I'm going to "cheat" and suggest that each Abyssal locale is actually a demiplane or pocket dimension created by the powerful demon lords involved in the Savage Tide. I'm leaning towards keeping Demogorgon as a fiend, but really I'm happy to wait until we see what Keith does with it all. |
| Kid SixXx10-02-06, 11:44 AM | If it turns out to be a big deal, I'll probably actually start up an Age of Worms game as well. If you're sorta tired of the Breland-centricity of some Eberron adventure materiel, then the Adventure Paths make for wonderful opportunities to tinker with the path less traveled. Age of Worms & The Savage Tide are perfect for Q'Barra & Lhazaar. My folks are mostly veteran players, so they're really familiar with the fiendish dwellers of the outer planes. This is the mostly the same group I dragged through Queen of the Demonweb Pits [Lolth] in my Greyhawk days, and Bloodstone Pass [Orcus] when I ran a FR campaign. We've been together for nearly twenty years, so they need something different. I'm leaning towards keeping the planar BBEG's more "eberonny" because of that, so hopefully Keith will weave a Daelkyr or Lords of Dust alternative to the Abyssal connection. |
| astute110-02-06, 12:32 PM | My guess is that the abyssal locales are all in Khyber - it's a big place! |
