So, I've placed a tribe of Lizardfolk with in a cave system in the Boneyard. As of yet, I've actually fleshed them out little.

So far they consist of Lizardfolk, Blackscale, and Poison Dusk. Each variety has been changed by living underground and possess black scales instead of normal scale-tones.

And also they've been hired to attack the PCs at least once, so they have some contact with the outside world, or perhaps that contact is the only one.

What I'd like are ideas from they community on how to better weave the lizardfolk tribe I've built better into Eberron.

(I know, the tribe I've built deviates from the standard fluff, but it can still work)

Since they live underground, they might be minions of Khyber and belong to one of the Cults of the Dragon Below. If you have Monster Manual III, you could even give some of them the voidmind template. The half-illithid template from Fiend Folio would work, too.

Are they intended to be evil? If not, you could put a spin on them and have them be the good guys - charged to guard against some great evil from below. Only now they've been tricked into thinking that the PCs are agents of that evil...

They could be guarding a piece of the prophecy or testing those who dare enter to see if they are worthy. Like Raashaak in Qbarra and his blackscale army of guards.

They could be keeping the abberations from certain areas, and rstricting access to outsiders altogether.

How did they come to be in the Boneyard in the first place?

Their origin in the Boneyard has yet to be made. My first instinct is to have them be followers of a great dragon, one that died many years ago, (which fits in with why they are there). The dragon commanded them to protect the Prophecy in the boneyard, but the magic inherent in the place has driven them below the surface, as living in a blasted area full of skeletons is a pain in the ass.

I was also thinking of several of them being bonded to Khyber shards in some way.... Perhaps an ancient gift fromt he dragon?

Right now I know their leader is going to be a tough melee-type that should knock the party off their feet. I figure I could really mess with them and have a large hulking blackscale come out, and have the real threat be a regular Lizardfolk.

Maybe they smear ground up bones of the dragons' remnants on their faces like war paint.

Maybe they fashion the bones into bone weapons (just treat like normal weapons, but they look cooler).

Maybe they're the reason that halflings who enter the boneyard never leave, but since nobody's ever left the other halflings assume dark magic.

Maybe they're an ancient tribe of halflings twisted by the powerful draconic magic irradiating the bones of a legendary dragon into lizard people.
