| krocha10-03-06, 10:34 AM | So just what are the feeling of the Dragons of Argonnessen towards their more primal kin who live on other continents and do not concern themselves with the prophecy. My reason for asking is that I'm thinking of playing a Seren Barbarian/Fighter who has taken the Dragonslayer PrC but I need a justification from a role-playing standpoint. My thought was that maybe his patron had taught him these skills and sent him out adventuring against the non-Argonnessen dragons for some reason related to the Prophecy. Thoughts, suggestions? |

There are certain irreconcilable details in the character that prevent a satisfying backstory. To make it work, you need the dragons of Argonnessen to hate their primal kin, and even though many don't include any dragons except those of Argonnessen in their game, where primals are mentioned, there's no indication the dragons of Argonnessen care what their primal kin do. The concept works better if you drop the "Seren" part. A barbarian from anywhere else needs little work to make him want to hunt down dragons. |

Actually that's not entirely true as I may have found the answer I'm looking for in the PgtE. Under the Dragons section, it mentiones that some times Dragon's turn rogue they may be hunted down by a "cadre of dragon agents armed with detailed knowledge and tatical coordination." Now I just need a reason why this adventurer has left on of these cadre's and is adventuring. |
| Ellorin10-03-06, 11:47 AM | A Seren after dragons? Well, occasionally draconic agents are sent to capture or slay renegade dragons ( for exaple, for revealing arcane secrets of Argonessen). A uniquely talented human might be allowed to join them for some reason, especially if the Prophecy demands it. A little stretched, I know, but I can't see another way to do it. |

A little stretched, I know, but I can't see another way to do it. from the PgtE: "...while few retain their natural forms and simply use humanoid agents to carry out their plans. Whatever their form all members of the Chamber make extensive use of humanoid agents, for their own numbers are few and the assistance of agents grants them much greater reach in the worlds." In reading this, it sounding more and more plausible... |

All depends how the Dragons treat the agents when they are not directly on a mission. If they left them alone to adventure, then it would work. From time to time their Dragon patrons could call upon them to get a job done and inderectly involve their adventuring buddies. Plus many of the abilities gained through the Dragonslayer PrC have value outside of "slaying dragons." As a general statement, aren't there a number of Eberron orginizations/affiliations which allow membership but still gives leeway for adventuring? |

And only your DM can answer that detail in your campaign. He may not even have any Primal dragons at all. Everything in Eberron is optional. You really need to develop this idea with his hellp, not ours. As a general statement, aren't there a number of Eberron orginizations/affiliations which allow membership but still gives leeway for adventuring? Dragonmarked Houses are one example. But they are clearly written that way. You're trying to twist something into that concept which may be intended for an NPC concept. That's up to your DM. |

And tell me, where does it say that it was designed for an NPC? |
| Kreistor110-05-06, 12:00 PM | When you said this... My reason for asking is that I'm thinking of playing a Seren Barbarian/Fighter who has taken the Dragonslayer PrC you indicated you were a player (since you're playing), not the DM. Then why are you asking us? You seem to have made your mind up about certain things. Just make the dragons want to do what you need them to do, and you're done. |

You seem to have made your mind up about certain things. Just make the dragons want to do what you need them to do, and you're done. Correct, I should have elaborated. We take turns DMing and the DM has a player as well as DMing. Yes I know this is wierd but it works for us. Now as to why I'm asking, it's because I'm interested in other peoples ideas and my original post was asking how it COULD fit in and what I got mostly is why some people thought is couldn't fit in. |
| Kreistor110-05-06, 01:56 PM | That's right. Because you came across as a player, not a DM, we stick to canon. Under canon, what you want doesn't really work well. Remember, a lot of people disregard the PGtE. There are a number of inconsistencies between it and the ECS, so some people just ignore it entirely. So as a DM don't get caught up in whether the text allows what you want. Recreate the dragons and their Seren allies in the mode you require. No one should know much about Seren in the first place, so it's not like they can call you on the modification. So: The dragons send out solo agents to try and hunt down and eliminate feral dragons without revealing their masters. These agents wander the world looking for dragonsign, and then devote all their energies to the annihilation of the dragon. Usually, these agents use local resources and avoid calling in support from Argonnessen, sicne that would reveal their allegience. That's all you need. What was there still is: you haven't had to take anything away in order to create this. (By the way, your character is commonly called a DMPC -- a PC run by the DM.) |
