I'm working on a private art comission that I thought I'd share. He's a warforged necromancer with a clockwork toad familiar. Pencils are pretty much finished and then it's on to coloring and special effects. :)

Awesome, DMAC ... just awesome!

I love the way he looks "gaunt" for a WF, which nicely fits with the usual description of a necromancer. The spine/skull staff and the WF toad (his familiar?) are neat touches, too!

HEY!! WIZARDS!!! Why isn't this guy doing art for your books?!? :D

Thanks guys. I'm hoping to get on to coloring tonight.

Coloring it tonight? It'd be cool to se that piece in color.

Super thanks for making this picture. I have a 'Forged Necromancer as a Villian in my trainwreck campaign and the picture fits perfectly. :)

BTW, you have a few other 'Forged drawings to add to your gallery. The Toonforged and the Female 'Forged you drew a while ago. I know I shouldn't complain, but it'd be nice to see them in the main gallery.

PS: I remember that you have hidden away a part of your gallery on account of Bandwith issues or something like that, correct?

I really should do something with that female Warforged one of these days...

I'd actually forgotten about the cartoon Warforged.

It's been haunting you, hasn't it? It wont leave your mind untill you finish it :P

A cursory glance tells me that the swords looks a bit crooked and that a few places need a few more details. Other than that I have no complaints.

Also, is it just me or is the cape coming out of the helmet like hair?

I'd actually forgotten about the cartoon Warforged.

http://yodaboys.com/toonforged.jpg

Really? Well then it's a good thing I reminded you :)
So, will you be adding it to the gallery? *I'm a being jumpy, aren't I?*

On a slightly different note, have you thought about keeping one big art thread here in the Eberron boards or in the Art boards?
DMAC

07-18-06, 06:03 PM
Yeah, the helm was supposed to sort of suggest hair... I have a few other ideas now. :)

I don't know about a catch-all thread. Unfortunately I don't get back to Eberron as often as I'd like... There's always my Website for anyone interrested in what I've been messing around with lately.

Awesome as always DMAC.

Has Wizards ever approached you about doing illios for their books.

They really should (wink, wink).

Tonight's work: flat colors.

There already is an Eberron Art thread (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=446683) ... DMAC is on there along with lots of other artists both official and not.

It just hasn't been updated in a while.

The Comprehensive Eberron art thread? I should know about it, afterall, I started it.

What we have here is a failure in communication, or to be more specific, a lack of precision on my part. When I said art thread, I meant the type of threads the artists on the Art board use. The ones where artist X posts his/her work. That's the type of thread I was thinking about.

The CEAT (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=446683) is not meant to be a thread where people post their artwork. It's more of a collection of links.

Also, I do update it every now and then. It's just that I haven't found anything new in a while. But now with the release of the SoX gallery I also found a few more artists and DMAC conveniently posted Carrion.

Infact, I'm updating it right after finishing this post.

I'll just have to hope the changes are still there after the new boards are back again. And if they aren't... I'll just have to re-update it. I'll even copy-paste the changes to separate text files on the PC and the Mac incase some error attacks for massive damage.

It's pretty good. I'd take you over Wayne England (http://wizards.com/dnd/images/sx_gallery/98404.jpg) anyday. WOTC, fire England and hire this guy.

Seriously, it's much better than most fan-art, which is godawful.

Heh. I didn't notice it was you that started it until after I posted....

I don't see any reason why it couldn't be both; links to artists sites and links to individual work ... it IS called "comprehensive" after all! :D

I think you're safe making updates; it doesn't sound like the boards are going to be changing any time soon and they'll probably re-image the DB, again, in any case.

BTW, thanks for compiling the Art thread ... it's a valuable resource!

Anybody else notice that these are illustrations "wfnecro3" and "wfnecro4"? You can manually change them to view "wfnecro1" and "wfnecro2". #2 is a simpler version of #3, but #1 is a distinctly different pose and equipment. I like the final results, but #1 has something going for it too.

Great stuff, DMAC! :)

Heh, funny when that happens isn't it :P

Well, I do link to both artist sites and individual work.
It's just that if artists posted their work on my thread it'd grow bloated and wouldn't be of much use. That's why I link to their threads instead. Keeps the thread clean.

Or did you have something else in mind?

If you asked me what I really wanted, I'd prefeer it to be cleaned, stickied and locked. With room for me to edit it ofcourse.

I figured as much, I'm just hoping our guess is correct.

Thanks, all comments are appreciated! :)

Yes, I noticed that too. Ditto on the opinion.

And we really should ask WotC to hire DMAC. Perhaps start a petition?

Not really ... just let artists post links to their work in the thread and compile them at the top, in that first post. It shouldn't get too big....

If not actually hire him (maybe he doesn't want to work for WotC), at least commission some freelance art from him! :)

Well, I guess it could work, but it wouldn't fit with my sick demented desire to controll stuff :P

But if artists started posting on the CEAT I'd do it.

Yeah, that would do! What you say DMAC?

BTW I think I saw some of DMACs work in that 3'rd party D&D setting of D&D in space. What was it called again... Dragonstar? That was pretty good stuff
DMAC

07-21-06, 06:48 PM
Heh, yeah I have stuff in DragonStar. That was actually one of the first books I worked on.

http://www.yodaboys.com/halfdragon.html
(A color version I did for fun of the half-dragon diplomat I drew for DragonStar.)

There's a more or less complete list of my published work in the Bio section of my site. I also have some more World of Warcraft RPG stuff on the way this fall and I did work for the Mutants & Masterminds Golden Age sourcebook which just came out in PDF and will be in print shortly.

I also find it funny that people went back and found the "hidden Easter egg" versions of this drawing. I just wasn't happy with the pose the first time around. :)

Yeah, that's the one. I saw it once while cheking out one of the Dragonstar books at my "FLGS." I recognized it immediately the first time I checked your site.

There was just something about it that didn't click. I think its just that it was a static pose, while the final one is more dynamic.

I like the toad most of all, its great :D
Joni-san

07-23-06, 06:03 PM
True, DMAC has a thing with drawing animals (or things that resemle them), like the bird on the 'Forged Druids* tree for example.

Infact, I'm giving my Necro Villian a Toad and I'll propably introduce 'Forged based DMAC's work.

*Early example of a 'Forged Landwalker? You decide :P

Finally finished!

http://www.darrencalvert.com/wfnecro5.jpg

It's been an interresting week, my parents had a flood in their basement caused by a broken pipe which did a ton of damage, including taking out a bunch of my old sketchbooks. I spent the day yesterday hauling thousands of pounds of soggy childhood memories out to a dumpster. Ah well, life goes on...

Wow, awesome!

Not the sketchbook situation, that blows. But the art, awesome.
DMAC

07-31-06, 10:23 AM
Thanks! Glad to finally be finished.

Luckily the old sketchbooks were mostly crap and little doodles. I used to draw a face or a sword and then lose interest and start a new page. Thank God I have all my old RPG books at my place. ;)

And the mini based on it is coming along nicely as well:

Also good to hear that the sketchbooks that were lost didn't contain anything too important.

Wow, what would you charge to sculpt things?

Well Dave, to be honest, I don't typically take commissions.

But were I to do so, a sculpt like this would be about $150.00 US.

It also depends on how big the sculpt would be, how complicated, and if it was a multi-piece sculpt.

But if you want to discuss it further, feel free to Email me at my user name at Gmail.com.

Thanks for the kind words. I hope to have more to show you soon.

If I can get a pool going with my gaming group, after my student loans come in (I'm a baaaad, irresponsible gamer with money), I may have a group commish for ya. No time limits either, we Canadians are a patient lot.
