Artificer and the divine [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-11-04, 10:16 AM Word on the street is that Eberron is supposed to be low in divine casters. Most priests are experts and true divine magic is rare and miraculous.

So what about healing magics? Are those also rare? Because if so then the artificer sort of throws the entire thing a bit out of whack. Having a healer is nice, but having a character that can throw together a wand of cure light wounds or a potion of cure moderate wounds is actually more useful (since ten people can take a potion in one round but a cleric can only heal one). Has anyone thought about what this means for clerics and their magics?

And clerics are simply more powerful casters. That is how it is balanced and equitable.

08-11-04, 11:05 AM The primary souce of healing in Eberron is the dragonmarked house with the mark of healing. They use the power of the mark and also run hospitals. As far as healers in adventuring parties that role is still primarily the cleric, who is the rare temple knight as opposed to the common parish priest. An artificer can certainly take this role, but he won't be as good at it as a cleric.

But I wonder about how this impacts clerics in the WORLD. It's a setting question. Healing is a clerics primary magic. if a cleric heals your woulds and that's suppoed to be a miracle how am I supposed to make that miraculous when there's no lack of healers to be found? I suppose you can play up other clerical powers (turning undead wouldbe a big one). Anyone?

08-11-04, 04:33 PM Well, since an Artificer can't even create wands of cure until what level, 5, 7? Maybe there aren't that many who are that high level.

08-11-04, 04:45 PM Oh that's an easy answer. You don't go to clerics for healing. You go to House Jorasco. Clerics serve a much more church related spiritual guidance role in the world. It's nothing like the clerics are out of a job or anything, infact I bet clerics are happy that they aren't the healing medium, they are the medium for relieving people's mental problems.
