| Tailz05-22-05, 10:13 PM | I've got an Gnome Artificer in a campaign and I'm wondering if it is posible to build some power armour that is ether steam powered or elemental powered? If so how would it be done? eg: skills needed, tools, materials, etc? Anyone ever tried this? |

I personally suggest Mithril Full Plate, let it grant +2 to Strength and Dex, build in an adaption ability like a Ring of Adaption that lets you breath/survive in any environment, and then leave everything else to just plain old flavor text. Chances are that if you don't specifically tell them what it really is, they'll never figure it out. I wouldn't allow anything like a medium sized mecha though, thats just too much for the setting, IMO. But a hardsuit? That might be doable. |

And then you basically need to rewrite half the war to explain why the WF were even necissary when all of the humanoids had access to mecha. And yeah, there's a line between powered armor and a Medium sized mecha. |

And yeah, there's a line between powered armor and a Medium sized mecha. Well its not really that everyone is walking around in power armour, this is just something my character has come up with because of the nature of his work. Being in danger all the time, having to rely on the party's own warforged for defence. Hey why not atempt to build a war forged I can pilot? I'm small enough to fit in one, and smart enough, and my mad scientist resume could do with a new invention. :P If anything I'd say this kind of power armour (steam powered or elemntal driven) would be the next step on from warforged. |
| Tailz05-23-05, 10:13 PM | Although I am using the term Power Armour, I guess a better term might be Heavy Lift Suit/frame. The armour itself is driven by a combination of steam power and small bound elementals. Increases the wearers size by two categories Built to fit one specific user. Maximum speed of 20ft Strength becomes 20. Max dex bonus +0 AC 5 Hardness 6 Suit hit points 30, once the suit reaches 0 hit points it stops functioning and requires major repairs, if it reaches –10 its destroyed totally. A user within a broken suit is considered incapacitated and immobile (the only action the user can take is to get out of the suit). Cannot cast spells while in suit. -5 to skill checks with manipulated objects because of the clumsy hands (big stubby fingers). Can only use large size weapons/tools such as large hammers. The suit “engine” consumes 2gp of fuel per hour (wood or coal?). Repairs are done in the same way as warforged? The Artificer would need skills such as blacksmithing, sculpting, etc. The usual set of skills to make constructs. As to the cost and materials... I'd have to open a book and do a little research. Which I can't do at the moment... (darn work). Would also require the following feat: ARMOR PROFICIENCY (POWERED) You are proficient with powered armor. Prerequisites: Armor Proficiency ( light) , Armor Proficiency (medium). Benefit: When you wear powered armor, you may add the armor’s entire equipment bonus to your Defense. Normal: A character not proficient with powered armor adds only a portion of the armor’s equipment bonus to her Defense. Special: An Artificer may select this feat as one of his bonus feats. |
