Attention New Posters: April Fool's Day Warning [Archive] - Wizards Community

Attention all new posters (those that have been on the boards for less than a year):

Every year, the Boards staff here like to mess with us for an April Fool's day prank. Year before last they changed all of the avatars to My Little Pony pictures. Last year, the big thing was the censor was reprogrammed to make everybody talk like Mr. T.

It will happen again this year, in a few day's time.

If you are easily offended, are incapable of understanding that a group prank is not a personal attack, or lack the ability to laugh at yourself, then please, DO NOT LOG ONTO THE BOARDS ON APRIL FIRST! Read a book, go outside, talk with loved ones, anything, but don't come here.

The rest of us enjoy the pranks, and look forward to them all year long. If you do not think you will like being messed with, then don't come to the boards until its all over. If you do, and you start a thread to complain about it, you will be openly laughed at for not being able to take a joke, likely to your face.

Any "damage" done to any poster, the boards, or threads, is temporary only, and everything will be back to normal when its all over with. So, sit back and enjoy the fun!

Are the My Little Ponys still available?

MikeC, WHAT?

Are the My Little Ponys still available?Nah, they stayed up for about a year at popular request, but were eventually taken down when they got rid of all the non-boards related avatars.

Maybe Keith Baker will finally reveal the Draconic Prophecy:

"What is six times nine?"

I just KNOW they're going to change the cover of Explorer's Handbook to a generic one and call it Complete Explorer, or something like that. Considering the mess that ensued last time something like that happened (Races of Eberron, anyone!?), you bet these guys know which chain to yank.

Here endeth the prophecy!

Awww, you ruined the surprise now!

And... and... I want to be Mr. T. Awww... maybe they should combine EVERYTHING and have people talk like Mr. T about My Little Ponies that are being ridden by Mr. T himself!

... and Now I want a "Mr T. Rides a 'My Little Pony'" Avatar.

I just checked, these two are still there:

The ironic thing is I hate ponies, but this one's just too freakin' cute :P

And I bet the Prophecy has something to do with ketchup and crunchy bipedal things that come conveniently wrapped in foil for better cooking...

The funniest possible prank though, would be Keith Baker saying Eberron was really meant to not be magical at all, and that he envisioned massive hulking mechs duking it out across battle lines since the first days of The Last War, with Psions running rampant and exploding in Sharn three times a tenday like the end of Akira...

REALLY OT, but man, I really did not enjoy that movie. At all. Don't know why I heard about it so often.

Dang Edy! Thanks for the warning. I'll have to find a way to log on tomorrow and see what happens... :D

Now, I missed this last year, so humour me and answer me a few questions. Do the Wiz_O's go by the traditional April Fool's Day, where the pranks end at noon? I doubt they do, but if they'd do I'd like to know, because I'd really rather not miss this ;). Also, if they do end this way, what time zone do they go by?

Can't wait! The day is almost here! Only 7:22--as of this message--left before the maddness begins! :D

Heck no, its all day. And usually, its several days long for the people that can't make it on the 1st. I've been begging Dox to extend it all weekend long :D

Akira was my introduction to Anime. I loved that movie. I loved the art of it. I still run around screaming "Tetsuo!!!! Kineda!!!!" when the mood strikes me.

I'm not seeing the joke, whatever it is. Only change from normal I saw was that I got a custom title of "custom title", but if it's an April's Fool, it's a bit too subtle for me.

The movie was good, but it doesn't hold a candle to the graphic novel (manga). Read them; they're awesome.

Custom Titled!

I think that the title "Custom Title" goes to everyone who's posted today. That's the only pattern I see...

Yup, I'm right- I just changed as a result of posting this

I'm new, so thanks edy for the warning, but if "custom title" in the title is it I'm a little dissapointed. Ah well, Happy April First Everyone.

Maybe 'custom title' is just a subtle warm up?

Maybe they decided to go low-key from now on, due to the flame wars from previous years.
Urko

04-01-05, 10:55 AM
My guess is it's a scripting error. The "custom title" is probably a place holder for something goofy that is supposed to be automatically generated.
greatfrito

04-01-05, 11:10 AM
See, now the question is whether I want to still be a "member" or be a "Custom Title".

Also, go look at the main D&D page.

Now there's scary. :thinks:
Evil Wizard

04-01-05, 11:29 AM
The funny part about the front page is that it's not really an April Fools' joke. They're really printing that book.
Urko

04-01-05, 11:40 AM
Which makes it an odd choice for an April Fools joke, if they want people to actually think the book exists and buy it.
Talon Blackhart

04-01-05, 11:44 AM
That's what makes it so frightening to me...

They really are printing a "D&D for Dummies" book. Scary.
3nigma

04-01-05, 12:27 PM
I was in the same thought process.

It was a HILARIOUS April Fool's Joke homepage, until I realized they were actually printing the book.

Then, I laughed again that they were printing that book.

Then, I realized that by printing this book, the homepage wasn't really much of a joke...

...huh.

But it was a good one while it lasted =)

04-01-05, 12:27 PM
I may have to pick up a copy of the book, If only to show those friends who could never understand why I play "that game"

I'm sorta disappointed. I was looking foward to another round of My Little Pony avatars.

Oh well. There is always next year!

And I pity da' foo' who disresepctin' the My Little Pony avantars ;)

Ah yes, I do miss those viruses and not crashing. Those were the days.

And there are flowers in the upper lefthand corner of the message boards main page. That was odd (I think those are the ones that are supposed to be following my cursor).

Anywho, I blame this thread for making it not fun - we were expecting it to be exciting or funny... and it's not.... I'm gonna go cry now.

And now that I think of it, I always perferred being a "Member" to some weird-ass title-thing.

You know, maybe they didn't do anything precisely because Endymion got us all worked up : )
After all, the absense of a surprise you're expecting is a surprise. Even if it's rather disappointing.

After all, the absense of a surprise you're expecting is a surprise. Even if it's rather disappointing. They didn't do a lack of events, they just didn't do anything worth mentioning. The title changes, those flowers that half the members couldn't see (I'm on Mozilla, never saw a one of them), and what essentially boiled down to an all day WizO spamfest. If they had done nothing at all, then it would have worked as a prank. As is, it was just lame.

To all the new posters, I would like to apologize for how exceedingly crappy this was. Maybe next year will be better, although after this year, I wouldn't hold my breath.

There have been some really good ones, although I'm still convinced the search not working has been a massive joke. Of course if I had it my way the search feature would lead to a huge thread full of nothing but useless links. As it is, Wizrards dropped the ball on all counts when it came to April Fools Day this year. Of course if this is the only thing they drop the ball on for the next few months the joke is on us.
Ayers

04-02-05, 10:27 AM
Well, even in despite of the rather pathetic April Fools day pranks played yesterday, I still think some good came out of this. I did afterall get to post random and seemingly meaningless posts on this thread, which did increase my number of posts :D.

Good work Edymnion! ;)

This would have been a disappointing April 1st if I weren't also a Magic player - the "Premium" joke was great. Last year's announcement of Unhinged and the mystery poll that resulted in the "banning" of Mindslaver were slightly better, though - mostly because of the build-up and the uproar.

Edymnion, I hope you've learned your lesson - don't post a warning next year! The quality of the April Fool jokes seems to be inversely proportional to the community's expectations.

And for the record, I saw the flowers (in Rogers @Home - don't ask).

Make a good gift for a friend... And you can't beat that price.
